My neighbor is outside right now putting up her Christmas lights! :earseek:

I know she wants to do it when it's nice out but this is early even for her. She has been working on them for about 2 hours already.

Hopefully she won't be turning them on yet.

So when do you decorate outside...do you wait for December or put stuff up early while it's still nice out. I usually wait till December and hope for a nice day.

I start on black Friday after I came home from Christmas shopping, they come down the day after Christmas or the first day after that.

At my house November 1st starts christmas. The lights are going up this weekend but don't get turned on until the wednesday before thanksgiving.

Ours go up Black Friday (we don't go shopping that day) and come down New Years weekend (or the closest weekend to it).

What's wrong with enjoying some lights? I am thinking about putting my tree up this weekend!

I'll wait until this weekend to take down my Halloween decorations and put out my Thanksgiving things, but I'll probably start Christmas decoration before Thanksgiving. I'm having some construction done, so I'll not be able to use my den, where we normally have our Christmas tree. So I'll need some extra time this year to figure out where everything will go.

While driving down a main road here today, I saw several housing areas with Christmas decorations up on the walls and gates to the developments. The Crossroads area near DTD has all of its Christmas decorations up as well. The Christmas merchandise is now out at World Of Disney at DTD. The Christmas spirit has definately arrived in Orlando!

I do all of my Christmas decorating--inside and out--throughout the weekend after Thanksgiving. I don't want to put it up too early because I might be sick of it by the time Christmas actually rolls around!

After Thanksgiving (sometime:)) to New Year's for us.

The day after Thanksgiving begins open season...

We start putting up indoor and outdoor decorations the day after Thansgiving. I cant wait-I love the holiday season!

The day after Thanksgiving for us.

I cannot believe we're only a few weeks away!

If you have to put them up sooner because of the weather that is okay, but I don't think they should turn them on till after Thanksgiving. I wish we could go back to the time when Christmas didn't start until Thanksgiving was over. I think of Thanksgiving as the forgotten holiday. The stores have maybe one small area for Thanksgiving, it is all about Christmas.

I don't want to see a Christmas decoration or hear a Christmas tune until at least 12/15. And then don't tear everything down the next day! Christmas should last until the Epiphany. Then, you can take stuff down.

I'm gonna start soon. I don't really want to but I'm out of town Dec 4-12 and the inlaws come 12/14 and then my family comes until 1/4! I can't count on DH to get everything done while I'm gone and I can't do it all on the 13th! He can do the outside lights but I have to start getting the inside rearranged for 2 trees and 5 houseguests!

Good Luck! They were playing Christmas Music at the Buckle yesterday while I was buying shorts for our Orlando trip (where I will also see/hear Christmas).

And in some places I've lived you HAVE to put up your outside decor before it snows/freezes or you will fall off the roof. Does no one else have this issue? :confused3

My outside takes about three weekends. I will probably start this coming weekend. Inside takes about a weekend, but DW does a lot of that during the week. Our first Christmas party is the 10th this year, so, I want it all up by Thanksgiving, so I can take the weekend off, before getting the place ready for the party season. Holiday glasses, plates, china, etc. out of the boxes, washed, put in the cabinets, everyday plates, etc. put into the boxes, guest room readied, christmas shopping, etc. Lots of work, but it is so much fun!

This year the "friends, neighbors" party has about 50-60 invites to couples go out. Probably send them out around the 15th or so. If they all show up, I hope it is either nice out, where some can hang outside, or, some want to hang in the game rooms upstairs :earseek: 'cause that's a lot of people!!!! Well, as long as the bartender keeps pouring, nobody should be upset, right!! :rotfl2:

So, off the tangent and back to the question.....Start now, decorating takes a long time. And, yes, I keep the lights blazing until Three Kings. BTW, notwithstanding the fact that I am just outside of Houston, December is my largest electric bill of the year, by about 25-30%. The electric company loves me. Put on that extra generator.....aka Christmas Vacation.

Our outdoor decorating is minimal--takes about 10 minutes (no lights). Indoors is another matter :teeth: I'm thinking of beginning the process in a week or two. :)

What's the problem? Halloween is over.:flower:

I will probably start in late November as I will be at WDW for a week starting 11/30. I find whatever doesn't get done by Dec. 1 just doesn't get done.

I like to totally enjoy December - so Christmas chores have to be done before Dec. 1.

When I started reading your reply all I could see was the Griswold house! I love that movie!

She has not turned her lights on, but I guess if she wanted to who I am to complain, it's her electricity. What I did find very funny was she called me on the phone and asked if I was going to work tonight. I told her no because I was off. She wanted me to buy her something if I was going because she was exhausted after doing all that work outside and didn't feel like driving to the grocery store.

For the one who asked about the cold. I am in Buffalo, it gets pretty cold. I usually have take off to put up my outside stuff and that day usually turns out to be the worst day weather wise. Today was nice, it was about 60, but very windy. I'm not ready for Christmas, I still have my Halloween stuff up outside and my Mickey Ghost on the car.
