Christmas Cruising 2005

Nan--How'd it go???? We haven't heard from ya!!
Tig--I gotta get on that....I think I'll put Dan on that one, w/ our friend who owns the Husker shop...20ish items, NEish, relatively inexpensive (re: CHEAP!)
Grim--nice wheels. My ex-hubby was an x-ray tech who wanted a cycle until one night...not even gonna get on that soapbox! I know millions of people drive cycles safely, and you are aware of the risks. And I have ridden...and there is nothing like it, so true!
TIRED....baked all AM for the sale, bday party (outside, had bouce house, but it is cool & drizzly here, and I musta thought I was in the Caribbean already the way I was dressed!!!! All in warm in cozy wear now, still chilled)
Thought I'd check in then check out! Jack fell asleep about 7:15 on all the sofa cushions he had piled on the family room floor! CUTE!
Night kids...see you in the morning!
Kris
PS Dan just called...thought he was gonna be stuck in freaking Chicago overnight--omg, I HATE O'Hare, they are SO screwed up!--but he thinks they are gonna be home tonight. :lovestruc :love2:

I'm back....and ok. I called Tigg on my way home to tell her that it wasn't that painful (then) now I feel a little raw, kinda like a sunburn. It wasn't that bad while it was happening, just a brief shock of the rip, then ok. Not sure if this is a long term solution, as it was pricey. But I'll go one more time before the cruise, this was my test to see how long it takes to feel normal so I don't feel uncomfortable for the plane ride.

I was wondering about that little sports car. Sorry to hear she is on the outs.

Grim (& all) I grew up with motorcycles too. Each of my 3 brother in laws rode/ride. I have early childhood memories of riding with my BIL Mark up(& down) a local mountain road. Wonder now why my parents let me. I think I was 8 or 9. Funny not a thing that I want my kids to do, but I really liked it when I was kid. My friends death was just 1 month after Molly was born. Pretty much seared me closed to the topic. But....I totally get the thrill. Have fun, you sound safe. I worry about the nuts not you.

Back to Dis and see what that link is Tiggie posted...

Hi Gang,

Wedding yesterday until late, and NYC marathon today. Jesse and I walked over to see the first ones go by, and it was lots of fun. Now we're home and watching it on TV.

Grim, all I can say is WOW. That is some slick-looking bike you have there. Beautiful. I wish you tons of fun with it. If you already bought the snazzy car, and want it to go to a good home so your bike won't be jealous, PM me! I'm more of a sporty car girl than a bike girl. (Just call me Chicken Little!)

Nan, it was the funniest thing yesterday, when I was out gettng my hair straightened for a wedding, I thought of you and wondered if you went through with the waxing. See, it wasn't so bad! Have you ever had your underarms waxed? Now, that hurts!

Tig, thanks for posting the photo links. The more photos I see, the more I'm noticing that St. Maarten is small! And I think I read someone say that the Paradise Point Tram was walking distance from the ship, and that you can even see it from the ship. Wait, is that St. Thomas?? I made a big Microsoft Works file on all the island info I've collected these past 16 months, and I have to sort through it all.

About the gifts, I'm ready to send Chad's and Jesse's, so it'd be mighty kind of you to send me an addy. Or do I send them to Nan?

Dede, it'll be so much healthier for you to change your job. I know I don't have to tell you that! Start networking now so that you'll have a job you want by the end of the school year. Best best wishes coming your way!

Kris, did Dan make it back last night??

Nan, called you back, got your voicemail...did hubby take you out for those margaritas?

Aisling, yes-PP is St T. I think you'll do just fine winging it on St M.

Dede, get your ride last night?

Karen, still busy as ever?

Mom, I got us an invite to stay at a friend's house in Jacksonville on the 22nd. Are you up for that? We would stay in their guest room and do dinner and breakfast with them before headed to AKL.

I'm around for awhile---lurking...

Just got back from our baseball craft show. It really went well. My house is a tornado after all my projects...too tired to clean up...too tired to do my report...might sleep a few hours then get up to do it. I took banana bars (all sold), apple nut cookies (none sold), brownie mix jars (none sold--kinda surprised), and handmade cards (about half sold). Plus I bought Mom & MIL Xmas gifts (GREAT prices). And I got to munch on food samples :cool1:
So not hungry for dinner!
Nan--let me know how long you feel raw...and how long you are hair free! I may have to check into this!
Aisling--Dan got home, about 12:30 last night. Every time one of us flies back into Lincoln through O'Hare, we get the run around. Same stories every time...no plane...changing planes...mechanical issue...no crew...switching crews...blah blah blah. I have always said it is cheaper for them to put us in a hotel overnight and send a full plane in the AM than send a half full plane.
Luckily it seems that we don't have these issues if we fly out of Omaha--well worth the hour drive! (plus fares are almost always quite a bit better, thanks to Southwest competition!)
Remember the cruise I am trying to change through bestpricecruises.com? Well, NO response yet! WHAT is the deal?! I may need to contact Princess directly.
Got a cool thing in mail yesterday. I have been invited to be a leader for People to People's middle school leadership program in Washington D.C.! They would pay my airfare & hotel for a week! That would be SO cool! I would probably have to give up my March break to do it, but I'd say that's a fair trade off!
Well, kids, I am working on my swap item...I have to go downtown to a couple of places...that is an endeavor! But the wheels are turning!
Well, I may need an evening nap....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
I may check in..
Kris

Not sure I'm liking this wax thing...seems like my stubble is back already. I'll wait a day or so to really decide, but I think I'm just to course hairy type. )nice huh) The rawness is mostly gone, but not completely. I just realized too that I have to do this more than a few days before we leave or I won't be able to pack those last minute things I'll have to do. So this is a quandry.

Paul didn't take me out for drinks, but did wait on me hand and foot. Which was good since I felt rotten. Hmmmm, not sounding like a good thing to do, huh?

Brownie tea was nice, we had fun, took lots of pictures. The girls are so cute at this age. I guess I'd say that at any age, I just enjoy watching them be themselves together. I also really enjoy visiting with my girlfriends too (the brownies moms) One of my friends was shocked about the waxing, I told her I might get my hair highlighted (blonde) before we cruise too, she replied, that she didn't even know me anymore, man I sound like a stick in the mud huh? Nothing wrong with doing something for yourself once in a while right ? :confused3

This has been a 3 movie weekend. Just finished Ordinary Heros, now we're on Upset of Anger, the other night was Mamba Kings. Not great reviews on any of them really. But nice to zone out that's for sure.

Well better get out of my tea clothes to better zone out with my movie.

Lurking around,

Nan

(Karen, where are you???)

Kris, PtoP is a great organization!! Do the leadership program! My BIL travels EVERY YEAR for free as a PtoP leader. And he does the free Washington DC thing every year, too. This past July, he toured the UK, last year he was in Australia and New Zealand, the year before he went to China, and I can't even remember where he went before that, but he's been all over the world for free through chaperoning the "student ambassadors". His sons, my nephews, also go every year, but not with their dad's groupss, and they have to pay. So I hope you check into it and benefit from it!

Nan, I wish the waxing would have been a better experience, and result, for you. At least you know now if it's something you want to do, or if it's not worth it. I really hope you feel better by tomorrow, and are happy with the results. I don't want to say too much with menfolk lurking!

Hi Jill! I see you snuck in a quick post!

 Give Mom a qustion to answer, she'll post :)

She's reading this all the time...:magnify:

Glad to hear Dan made it home, sounds like that PtoP is an awesome endeavor. You should at least try it right?

Nan, sorry to hear your endeavor isn't faring so well. I read about Tenor and her SPA visits on the magic...that two-fer sounds yummy...2 fer $89-I'd chose the facial with pedi :cloud9: princess:

Hi Aisling  Ready for our visit yet? The date was for Sunday the 27th of November correct? Thanksgiving Sunday?

I can't wait!

Mom, you're driving us to the train right?

~colleen~

Tigg can you post Tenor's link for lazy ole me?

Thanks, my friend, see the rest of you in a few days or hours, depends on how long I want to sit on my butt reading someone else words of humor....

(Beautiful Nebraska is a song...and it is 70 & lovely here today!)
I am home...SEVERE heartburn all day yesterday...all last night...Prilosec seems to finally be taking the edge off. Thought for awhile it might be heart attack..but I've done that emergency room trip before. Google is a wonderful informational source. Self-diagnosed. Unfortunately I do not have an appointment w/ gastroenterologist (sp?) until the 28th, and that is only a consultation! Guess it's full time Prilosec for me! I was taking a round about every 3-4 months, and good to go. Now I'm lucky if I can go a week :guilty: Need this taken care of before the cruise! Foods I am to avoid are ALCOHOL, caffeine, high-fat food, tomato products & citrus fruits!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(As I sit here drinking a Diet Pepsi...I couldn't stand the caffeine withdrawal headache!)
Aisling/Tig--I was invited to go on the European trip in high school (opted for the school sponsored trip, much cheaper). I would LOVE to do something like this! Combine my 2 loves--travel (FOR FREE!) and working w/ kids! Hmmmmm, maybe this could be my way out of teaching...naw, I don't wanna travel that much w/o my kids!
That 2-fer at the spa appeals to me, too! I generally find the prices outrageous, and will get massage, pedi & nails at home for 1/4 the price...but 2 fer ain't that bad of a price.
Well, I may need another nap...
I'll check in..
Kris

Hi all! :wave2: Life has been pretty hectic in my neck of the woods :scared1: , so I have been reading, lurking and a quick posting here and there and no time to post to all of you! Let me fill you in ...

Dominick and I are not currently living in the same house - not what you think :rotfl2: - my SIL, MIL, an AH of a BIL and 2 nieces are on the Magic this week. They HAD (just HAD) to go before we did, but that whole family is a story unto themselves! Oh, back to why we aren't living together, Dominick is at his sister's house staying with his 90 year old grandmother while they are on the cruise. Gram is anything but 90!!! You'd never know it! She is amazing.

Last week was tech week at Kayla's HS for the 11-12 (grades) play. She was Stage Manager (that's my girl!!!) and had to be at rehearsal all week at night. Dom and I were busy doing errands Monday night, had to go to a meeting Tuesday night and had to fix a drawer at my mothers Wednesday night, all while she was at rehearsal. We watched the show Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Bizarre show, but the kids were great. I have worked with most of these kids for 8 years. I am sad to see them all graduate this year. Kind of the end of an era! :sad2:

Anyway, with all of this going on last week, Kayla's computer died in the middle of a project :badpc: , so we are down to one computer. (Project saved and finished!) Guess who is last in line for computer use at home! :rolleyes1 That would be me. Next the dryer went and a day later the washer went. Geez. And oh over the last weekend of the Lindbergh Trial, the starter in my car went.

Does it ever end? :confused3 Anyway, Dom was able to repair the car. It was the key cylinder that was the problem. AND as luck would have it my SIL (Dom's sister - he only has 1 sister and she is on the Magic - did I mention that?) was having her washer and dryer replaced. Her dryer wasn't drying and the repair guys couldn't do anything about it. So she ordered a Bosch W&D. Means nothing to me, a washer is a washer, and a dryer is a dryer ... Anyway we took the old washer and dryer, which are about 3 years old! They installed all of the fancy stuff and low and behold the dryer didn't work! :confused3 Turns out the vent pipe goes across the house and was completely clogged. So there was nothing wrong with the original dryer in the first place!!! :rotfl:

But, SIL got what she wanted (she always does - not said as a jealous SIL - wouldn't trade my life with her ever!), and I got a used, working, halfway decent washer and dryer! Some one was watching over me! :cool1:

In addition to Dominick not being home this week, Kayla leaves for Atlantic City on Wednesday, Dom is on a job that MUST be finished by Friday and we are leaving for Atlantic City on Thursday! All State Choir is singing on Friday night for the teacher's convention!

Cripes - I looked at our calendar and we are booked every weekend until we return from the cruise!!!!! Please stop the madness!!

So we never sent the Paypal stuff, sorry, not in a hurry for $ anyway, we know the tee shirt people!

Colleen (Tig) - I hadn't planned on doing our project until the Friday night after Turkey Day. Is that a problem? Let me know and I will make changes to my current schedule and get them to you.

I had to order 30 shirts, so I will have 9 extra in various sizes. So for all you lurkers, if you want one, you can purchase one from me on the cruise!!!

Yup, she got her ride. I think she actually liked it! She's hinting about how we should get another bigger one for longer rides  :Pinkbounc

Bella isn't much for comfort.

I stopped by the new house this morning, and they are FINALLY starting to frame! Well, they haven't actually framed anything - but they are drawing on the slab for where the walls go.

46 days, and we're outta here!

Kris - I do NOT mean to scare you but please get the heartburn thing checked. With the foods you are avoiding, sounds like gall bladder. I am a NEW women since I had mine removed. Was never in such pain as I was with my gall bladder attacks! WOW.

It could also be related to your heart! Heart attacks affect women differently then men, so women ignore the signs. Sorry call it an occupational hazard - but we see them coming in younger and younger for cardiac caths!
Ok, stepping off the box now. I just care fer ya! :love2:

Hugs :grouphug: and feel better Kris. My brief experince with heart burn was during pregnancies and it was awful. I agree with Karen, make sure you are getting the right dianostics too. My neighbor had glabladder problem and low and behold when she had her MRI/ultrasound (I think) for presurgery her doctor found she had a cancer growing on/in her kidney. Her story turned out ok. She had a 2 for 1 operation, took the galbladder & 1 kidney and she is cancer free for 2 years now. Sometimes I'm convinced that we have issues arrise to point us towards unknown problems. Whatever it turns out to be I hope you are on the road to recovery soon.

Karen, figured you're life took over your life. Sometimes that happens huh. Glad to hear things are good fo ryou just buzy (well except the car, dryer...etc....) Did you mention your SIL is on the MAGIC ??? :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Had to laugh at that one.

Went scrapping this morning, going again this afternoon....hmmmmm....sounds like I'm delaying getting things done. I guess I worked too much over the last few weeks 'eh?

TTFN,

Nan

Karen--it may very well be a gall bladder thing..or GERD (or both). My mom has stomach issues, and has had her gall bladder removed. Like I said...I am in on the 28th, so will know soon!
GOT MY REPORT FINISHED! (well, I have an agenda to type up to finish).
Yeah, it's a week late, but they don't meet for a week or two to look over them, so the deadline has always been more of a guideline...( I do SO much better with a FIRM deadline!)
Gotta go help Marcus w/ homework...feeling a bit better...Prilosec AND Pepcid. But got the tornadic house in relative order, good for my mindset!
I'll be back!
Kris

*************************************
As much as I have enjoyed the last couple years here at the Dis sharing stories about our family adventures, two people who have made several personal attacks on my family and I in the past and have hurt my feelings very badly, have just been made moderators so I'm removing my stories to prevent any further attacks.

It wasn’t so much what they had to say about me, but these people said mean, hurtful things about my children when all I was trying to do was ‘find the humor in things’.

Due to the decision of DIS management in which they elevated Mary and Mark to the position of Moderators, I have elected to remove my posts to protect myself, my family and our feelings.

A message board shouldn’t make you cry.

Thank you to all my friends that I have made here, I have really enjoyed our time together, however,

Now it's time to say goodbye to all my company...

LY/MI

This is from Delswife, Robin, who wrote all the funny TRs. Mark and his wife Mary made some very unkind remarks about Delswife's daughter's attire during graduation 2 years ago, and even c/ped a picture of the girl to add to their remarks.
Not to gossip, but I know some of you have enjoyed her reports, and she was the founder of the LYMI.

Anyway, Tig and Karen, I'm ready for WoD. :hyper:
Kris, no alcohol?? Yikes! :faint:
Grim, how about his and hers? ;) :moped: :moped:
Nan, here's some SmashMouth for you :rockband: Hey now, you're an AllStar, get your game on, go play-eeeeeee!
