HI Kristin

You are right. Lincoln has changed quite a bit over the years. There are quite a few good malls & ample restaurants. They have also been improving the main drag ever so much. & your downtown is very historical.

I am a skater. The last few years we have had our Nationals in Lincoln. I'm sure you've seen the Museum in town. Your city is quite big & there are many things to do. I've enjoyed staying in the Motel across the street from Barnes & Noble around 54th st. Street wise the most unusual thing I've seen is - at a intersection. One way is a stop sign & the other a traffic light. And of course having some one ask if you want a sack at a convenience store.

Two years ago I trailered my Motorcycle there. Riding around town is cool. But, I must admit I've never seen straighter roads (& lots of hills). And, soooo much corn. Each way out of town I drove approx 25 miles & then turned back. Now the PX in Omaha ( on base) is nice. I bought a beautiful bedspread with a wolf on it.

Every day I went for walks at least 4-6 miles each time. People seem friendly & they really support their teams.

This year Nationals will be in Pensacola Fl. However, they will be in Lincoln again next year.

Tig & I are from NJ. We live between Trenton & Phila.

Looking forward to meeting you.

Jill :moped:

What a diverse and interesting crew we are!

Jill and Kristin, you two girls may have passed each other on the street in Lincoln when you were there Jill for skating!

When I was 17, my family moved to upstate NY, where there was a cornfield across the road from our house. But I guess I'm like Lisa on Green Acres, I lasted less than 10 months there, and went right back to the city for college. I lived in downtown Brooklyn, on the 14th floor with a view of the Brooklyn Bridge. My parents still live upstate, but my brother was right behind me coming back to NYC. I tried getting him and his family to go with us on this cruise, but they're not into Disney, so we'll have to have a fantastic time without them! :rotfl2:

Jill, I wanted to ask you...on your last cruise, did you go to Parrot Cay or Topsiders for lunch on embarkation?
And also, did they make an announcement when the ship was ready to leave port, or did it just happen?

HI :Pinkbounc

First of all did you see our answers to your question about tig's signature?

Now to answer your questions.

We ate at topsiders on the day of departure. After the lifesaving drill, at approx 4:30 to 5:00 we watched the Charles Marshall Band. I have a picture of us still tied to the pier at 4:56. At 5:09 I have a picture of the registration people waving goodbye to us. At 5:10 the gangplank was lowered. I believe the Magic played its tune as we left. And, our 1st dinner was in Parrot Cay.

Thank goodness digital cameras show on the computer what time you took the picture.

Wouldn't it be cool if I had meet Kristin in Lincoln. The one year I spent a week there & the second time I spent 3 weeks there.

Of course, for many years the National Guard summer camp was in Fort Drum NY. & one year I worked for an inventory company & spent a few days in NYC.

America the country that everyone should tour at least once in a lifetime.

Jill,
I did, thanks! I never knew there were reasons behind the monorail colors. When I read the link Tig posted about the Dis team game she's in, wow, I give her credit for wanting to be in that game!
Tig, are you there??? Planning dinners, desserts, etc, I ran as fast as I could away from that thread  <-----------this is what would happen to me if I tried to be THAT detailed. You've got a great organized mind, Tiggie!

:shamrock:

When I went to France w/ a school sponsored trip in high school, we ran into classmates at Verseilles who were on the People to People tour!!! It seems connections can be made eventually if people just get to know each other!
Jill, Lincoln is OK. I really hated it growing up. But the opportunity never arose to move to a beloved big city, and funny, most of my friends who left are now returning to be closer to family while raising their own. But, hey, we have a real Starbucks now (not just in Barnes & Noble), so that certainly helps my frame of mind! We do have a number of fantastic locally owned restaurants that give the illusion of being in the big city, in addition to decent chains, like Macaroni Grill. Football used to dominate in this state, but we had a rough year and spirits are sagging. But everyone should experience a football Saturday in Lincoln. We love tailgating--we see many frat buddies (& families) of DHs so it is like a reunion each week. There was no tailgating when I was in college, this is a relatively new phenomenon here. We even have alcohol...IF it is in an unidentifiable cup!
Something about this board makes me ramble....random thoughts....

If we didn't book when we did, we'd be paying so much more. Last week, the DCL site was showing a cat. 9 for 2 adults costing $6000 for our date.

When I saw my countdown clock say 9 months till the cruise, I thought wow I could have a new baby by the time we cruise!

There has to be more countdown clock sites out there? Anybody know of
any? :earsgirl: :smooth: :bounce:

Mouseman made a desktop countdown-but to be honest, I'm not liking that one either

Franco, you might want to clean up your sig in the meantime ;)

Aisling: I'm an organizer, it's what I do at work, it's what I do for our vacations, so I figured I could handle the WPASADI competition :)
The Teammates I have are excellent at what they do. We have organized, idea people and a webpage designer-and except for one, we all live in NY & NJ-we have one from Louisiana. We passed our first challenge and my teammates have already started on the next one. (The challenge is posted sunday night & I now have to play catch up with my team today.)

 Hi Kristin, Hi Mom and all you other Christmas Cruisers lurking out there!

*9 More Days to Orlando*

Have any of you cruised other lines? I saw some of you have cruised Disney before.
DH and I love to travel--haven't met a trip we didn't enjoy, regardless of where we went, where we stayed, etc. We did have an AMAZING time on our first cruise in Oct. on Princess Star. Honestly we aren't huge Disney people--we don't dislike it, but not CRAZY about it either. Plan to take kids to WDW in next couple of years. We realize this cruise will be different--taking kids, cruising w/ whole family (had a blast together for a week at NJ shore this summer, so few worries), and no casino. Our expectations are different. But other than that, do you think we will find many other differences?
I read a disappointing review, but I remind myself that I read disappointing reviews about the cruise we so dearly loved, so I take it w/ a grain of salt.
Hmmmm....I need another trip on the horizon. There is just too long until this one embarks!!!!!!!
Bye!
Kristin

Hi Colleen

Now that there is no countdown I don't know when you're leaving for a well deserved girls week on the town. Or when I'm going on vacation with my Grands or when we have our Xmas Cruise. I sure hope you come up with something good cause I sure need a new sig.

I PM'd Aisling the other day & I think I surprised her (Sorry Aisling) Maybe we should all PM her.

:badpc: :moped:

PS I don't know about any body else but I'm sick of snow.

HI
I've never been on any other cruise line. However, there are a lot of people where I work that have. From what I hear all cruises can be great. And I have read some bad reviews about Disney & Good ones. I thought it was great. I took over 400 pictures, meet a lot of great people & had an awesome time. Just like anything else, it is what you make it. Positive thinking.

Kristin, give your cruisemates some time, and we'll make a proper Disney Fanatic out of you!! :earsgirl:

We've never cruised, we just go to WDW every vacation LOL! To be honest, if this weren't a Disney cruise, we'd probably wouldn't be doing it. We were looking for some new Disney experiences, and cruising with Mickey sounded great!

I haven't traveled much as an adult, except for the road trip to South Dakota, oh and a quick L.A./Las Vegas trip years ago. But as a teenager, I was in Istanbul for a month, visiting my father's relatives. I'd love to see much more of America. I saw a show I think on the Travel Channel about people who travel around to motor home meets, with these tin-can-looking motor homes from the 50's. I'd love to do that for a few weeks.

Jill, I'm sick of snow, too. But mostly I just want to see leaves on the trees again!

You have gotten SOOO much snow! We had a bit the week after New Years, but not much since. Going to be pretty nice the next week. Guess we are farther south than you!1 :rotfl:
It was the wonderful people we met that made the cruise fantastic for us--it was pretty good anyway, and we just love to travel, socialize and just generally enjoy life, so not really worried!
Have a great day!
Kristin

 Hello, my Friends, Hello...
Tigger here! I'm online at home adding to my DDs post count...

TBJ: Mom, If you want a daisy chain, I'll do it for you tomorrow...just let me know.

KKB: In true form, we will turn you into a Disney addict! You were in our neck o the woods in NJ last year...ship bottom has good shopping, eh? ;)

Aisling: Book the Poly Yet?! :)

I'm home today, my kids went to a concert last night and my son wound up getting hit in the face by a very large, irate man...so I spent my morning at the Drs and getting Xrays done. He's fine, only bruised and swollen. I think his pride was hurt more than his nose.

This Question is for All Those that are Staying in Fl after the Cruise!

I can arrange a private gathering if you all are willing...The First Choice I have is a private gathering, Epcot Dessert Party. Give me an idea of who would like to attend and if you want me to try to book NYE or NYDay at Epcot.

If anyone reads the Delswife trips reports, you'll know what I speak of. Zurgswife arranged an Epcot Dessert Party for about 30 of their closest friends and I would like to the similar or the same.

I'll be calling CRO tomorrow to see what other party options they offer & I'll check back with everyone then...

A daisy chain will be good.

Is AJ's nose broken. I just don't understand why people have to resort to violence. It's a shame he wasn't arrested. Hug my Grandson for me, please.

It will be interesting to see if you can get everyone to do a event at WDW. It would be fun.

~Done, I hope you like them~
I think you have to post something new to see your signature...check it out :)

He's fine, nothing's broken...he's got strong bones like his mother ;) Because of his age, Adrian would have had to press charges. He chose to just walk away. And yes, violence is everywhere, this is something I've always feared but never had to deal with. Lesson Learned, Thank You!

It will be interesting to see if you can get everyone to do a event at WDW. It would be fun.
I would assume the Ice Cream party could be held anywhere on the property, not necessarily in the park. We could try the boardwalk or even the swan/dolphin. I'd like to do this somewhere that has a good view of one of the parks. We could even try a luau at the Poly.

Anyone interested?

Did I do good in cleaning up my signature mamatig!!!I don't want
to be yelled at again!!! :rotfl:
 :earsgirl: :smooth: :bounce:
