No, you did not scare me away, just busy. For one thing we are bringing my mom in to live with us. Mom 86 years old with Alziemers. We had put her in a nice nursing home but I always got a sour taste when we would see her. We can make her much more comfortable with us. Getting old stinks!! The boys Leonardo is playing Freshman football and always busy, and Daniel always at the "Y" swimming and playing basketball. DW Helena always busy with something and myself retired but the house Dad. Before our cruise, we need to get Helena and the boys to Brazil to see her mom (87) and Dad (96) both are still strong but she has not been home for quite awhile. We have sent the boys twice but not DW her papers are now all set so off they go next summer. Me and my cat will hold down the fort! So, yourself and the others keep giving me all this great info and I will chime in on ocassion!! Can't wait to cruise!! :earsgirl: :smooth: ::bounce:

Aisling:

If I can't fit in the dress by cruise-time, it;s yours!

Deal. Red's my color.

Franco,

Many sympathies on the elder care issues. Many of us have experienced this lately and we know how absolutley tough this is.

This sounds like it is going to be a great group!

Jim

We didn't enjoy our cruise one bit!

Gotta love that dry English humour!

You never did see Pocohantas did you Lynn?

Jim

Hi, my name is Jesse and I'm going on the cruise with my family. A few kids have been posting on the teen board christmas cruise 2005. It would be fun to have more kids. I never used to be a member of Dis until I found out I was giong on a cruise. And then I got my own username Aladdin's Clone. I'm 12 and will be 13 on the cruise. If your kids want to post about about cruise, they can get their own username and join our thread. ok?? Thanks and bye!!@

Hi Jesse & Welcome!

I will relay your message to my girls-the DIS to them is "Mom's" thing-we'll see if I can interest them in the teen board.

How is the teen board for conversation?
~Everyone there seems to want to IM instead of posting~

Check my signature, next year in July there will be a DISmeet in PA. Maybe some of us can meet there before the cruise in December?

:wave2:

Well, I see the numbers of "Irish Eyes" are increasing as well our UK delegation! You will find that Jim has quite a bit of charm and Lynn and Keith from the UK are simply delightful all the way around.

Franco:
God bless you and your family as you bring your Mother home! She is lucky to have family who treasure her. As Jim said, many of us have made similar journeys and empathize with your desire to provide her with the best care possible. I hope all goes well with your DW's trip home to Brazil - how exciting for her!!

I have been quite focused on our new little boy! As a Lab Rescue, he had wonderful foster parents but still had some medical issues to follow up on and some new ones show themselves. My "vet" knowledge base and skills are pretty dismal so I have had a steep learning curve. After the past two weeks, my relationship with our new vet is quite profound (and very expensive). LOL In fact, we will be heading there again today as Sampson started shaking his head and scratching at his ears yesterday. After my "research," I would say ear infection secondary to allergies. I wouldn't stake my veterinary reputation on it, of course!

Here are some thoughts on Christmas Gifts:
DH had a large gray carry-on bag and hand-carried all the unwrapped presents. We were not comfortable with the theft threat of small, electronic devices so we didn't put anything in our luggage. DD got a personal CD player and Disney Walkie Talkies..........plus some CD's and a CD Case. She also got two envelopes from Santa which were tickets for hair braiding and tandem para-sailing. She was thrilled with the hair braiding tickets especially as I had told her I didn't know if it would be possible as it was quite expensive.

DS (17) gifts included a personal DVD player, golf shirts from onboard the ship, golf items from WDW and a couple of DVD's. We picked mostly electronic because the gifts were boxed and easier to transport that way. Chuck went through security before we did in case they wanted him to empty the bag; I stalled until he was clear and he waited for us on the other side. I had pre-purchased flat gift bags and tissue paper and packed them in the Christmas luggage. You cannot wrap gifts as you may have to unwrap them for security................so, we used the gift bag concept. Anything you purchase on the ship, they did have special Christmas wrapping offered BUT only for Mickey's Mates or Treasure Ketch purchases.

Embarkation Gifts:
Shirley, from the Perfect Gift, does any gift baskets or surprises for us. She did our Holiday floral arrangements and our pre-lit Christmas tree.

We do order celebration platters, champagne etc from DCL. I loved the gifts that DCL originally carried (especially the pillow case, cookie and Disney Storybook) but I'm not really taken with their current
offerings.

Well, it is time to really start my day (DH had an early flight so we were up at 3 AM)! I have no idea why but since I began my little "vacation" at home...............my to-do lists seem to grow exponentially. Happy Friday, All!

No Jim never did get to see Pocahontas.... I was kidnapped, however whilst in the hands of my very friendly captors I was taken to the capitol in DC and got to see her portrait......

Thanks Ginny.......thats alot of delight if I'm delightful all round!!!!!

Hi Lynn, it's nice to "meet" you!

Colleen, I looked at photos of past Dis meets and wow, some of them have good turn-outs! It's a little too early for us to decide if we can go to PA, unless I go without DH LOL! Is there a thread for that meet somewhere?

Franco, I do music therapy in a nursing home, and I've grown so attached to the lonely elders who have non-visiting families. It makes me so happy to hear about families who dearly love their elders. Blessings to all our loved ones in facilities and at home with us.

Today I received the new DCL video. I was like a kid on Christmas morning ripping it out of the box. It's mostly the same as the previous video, but with a new song, and some new things, like a brief glimpse of someone playing paddle tennis onboard, which I played frame-by-frame for DH (who is a league tennis player) to show him how GREAT DCL is! I know I'll be watching the tape many times over the year.

Happy weekend!

~Hello to all! Good to "see" you~

I forget that life does go on beyond the DIS...good to see everyone doing well.

Franco, good luck with your Mom. It takes a special kind of person to go that extra step for a loved one.:grouphug:

Aisling-go to my signature line & click where it says "click here";)
for the thread...the details of next year's meet are on the first page.

Welcome Lynn! I've never met a UK DISer before...I frequently lurk on the UK Trip Reports board. The point of view is very educational-seeing the US from a new point of view. UKers also tend to stay here for 2 weeks at a time, so the stories tend to be longer and more detailed.
:wave2:

Ginny, your poor puppy-I'm sending Pixie Dust & my prayers to you and Sampson so he may come out of this ok. :wizard:

I am currently focused on our trip to WDW for this December-
we are at that 60 day window where I have to finalize my ticket purchases (MVMCP, WDW 4 day PH, US/IOA), confirm hotel ressies, confirm PS & write our itinerary-thanks again Ginny for the excel guide, it's working great!

:boat:
I have already studied the ship's layout & activities, next up will be excursion or not to excursion? Is that a question?

-Take care & be happy-

See you soon,

Colleen, I'm about to go over to the TR board and post our CR experience.::yes::

Good morning all -

Another DIS'er just posted the price for the 2006 Christmas Cruise which will be a 10-day (instead of a 7-day). They have one of the Center Cat 3 suites.................$16,000 (plus)! I'm not sure even rebooking on board would help much at that level.

Colleen -

Just a couple of thoughts regarding MCMCP. We have gone the last two years (just a fluke...........not a tradition) and have found that at least once during our stay, someone's party is totally rained out.

In 2002, we were staying at the Contemporary (SOG was in rehab) and met several families who had booked MVMCP on the last night available during their stay.........a little impromptu meeting in the laundry room. Well, they got rained out and were really disappointed. Plus, since there were no other nights scheduled during their stay, they couldn't get a ticket for a different night. So, if you haven't already purchased, you might consider purchasing a night toward the beginning of your trip so if inclement weather hits, you might be able to go on a different evening. Just a thought!

Also, if you are a pin collector, lots of folks don't know that they sell each MVMCP unique pins in Mickey's Toontown and at the Space gift shop in Tomorrowland.

Ginny

$16,000!:scared1:

Thanks for the info Ginny!

If we get rained out it'll be another reason to go back;)
-If necessary, there is one more party for Friday night, our weather 2 years ago was good all week-***No rain, no rain, no rain, no rain***

I am a pin collector, the MVMCP pins would be nice to add to my collection. (Which I keep in a display cabinet-not only won't I trade, it has to be a special occasion for me to even wear them.lol.)

I read about "special merchandise" offered during the Christmas party & have learned from experience to buy what I like right then & there...we went to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal on Halloween 2000 and didn't get a shirt right away~there was only 1 rack left at the end of the night & the only shirts left were a little small!! (of course we bought one anyway)

Hi everyone, I just wanted to report that, although it's a long way off, I've begun researching excursions. I'd been doing this for a while, but now I'm taking notes. This has become a fun hobby!
My plan is to snorkel only once, so must decide where to do this.-----To do an historical tour of St. M or St. T-------To try an excursion on our own, not booked through Disney------to not spend a mad lot of hours on beaches-------to ride on a sailboat-------and to not spend so so much money on excursions. I don't think we'll do any full-day excursions, so that we have the freedom to do 2 excursions in one day or to go off on our own. (I think 2 excursions in one day might be pricey, though!)

Anyway, I'm going to analyze Excursions like I'm a scientist, and be an expert when I'm done! LOL!

Hi folks:wave: ::yes::

My name is Jill. I am tiggerwannabe's mom. I am truly looking forward to doing XMAS with Mickey & of course everyone else.

We were on the 28 Aug should have been 7 day was a 10 day cruise.

Before that cruise the Dis Forum for the people going on that cruise was 200 pages long. They've already started a reunion cruise for 2006.

Colleen guided me to this site & I am looking forward to meeting all on this coming cruise.

Just a little bit about myself. I am retired military and now I work for the Dept Of Corrections. I love staying at the SOG; although, I havn't stayed there since they remodeled it. We will be going there in Dec & again in July. My hobbies are roller skating & swimming.

If anyone would like to see the pictures from my cruise you are welcome to check them out at http://community.webshots.com/user/trinibjill
put them on slideshow & enjoy.

On that cruise I didn't realize dressing up was such a huge affair. I know better for the next one.
About storage space. In the closet if you take the lifejacket & put it under the bed there is more room. We were upgraded to a cat 5 & in that room there is a steamer trunk that stands upright & it has shelves in it. Also all our luggage did fit ito the closets & that might be a good space to hide Xmas presents cause you can lock it .

enough for now.

Jill

Hello out there, I am also retired military (100% disabled PTSD Vietnam combat Veteran) It's just that retired sounds less nutty! We have stayed at the Contempary (SOG) once and twice at the new SOG. We loved it and are thinking about staying there for NYE after the cruise (our first cruise) good to have you here! These folks know what they are talking about! See ya! :earsgirl: :smooth: :bounce:

Hi Jill!
Thanks for the link to your photos.

With you and Franco retired military, my 18 year old son Chad will enjoy talking to you. He's in his first year of AF-ROTC, and LOVES it. I think he's aiming for Colin Powell's job...military and then government.

Jill, about dressing onboard, did you mean that people really dress up, like for the dinners? Would you wear a gown for formal night? This will be our first cruise, so I can't wait to hear more about your last cruise! From the pics, it looked like you had a ball.

Franco, I hope everything is going well with your mom. I'm happy to see it when you pop onto the boards! hey, technically this is your thread! LOL!

Hi Aisling:wave:

On the formal night I will be wearing a dress I wore as a bridesmaid. If you go back to that link for the pictures I posted a copy of all of us at that wedding.

There were men in tuxe's, women in gowns, 3/4 length dresses & some people did not dress up. Also, the servers were dressed up on formal night.

You might want to get a family portrait with the fancy clothes.

Colleen & Brit are going to get formal clothes.

On the cruise this past time I wore a disney dress with Mickey on it. It was floor length & casual. I really didn't feel out of place.

I saw you posted about Palo's. We didn't go to Palo's. I enjoyed the food in our dining rotation. The servers were great. we had late seating which was perfect for us. There was entertainment there some nights. Also, we made friends with the people sitting next to us. Many times we hung out with them.

Any questions I can answer about my cruise experience I'll be glad to answer.

I bought a Passporters guide & I must say it's extremely helpful. & Dave's DCL tribute site is very informative.

Franco
That is a great idea about going to SOG for NYE. Have you seen the suite there?
