We just returned from a 9 day trip at Jambo house. My husband became ill and was hospitalized with pancreatitis so we missed so much of our trip that we were considering taking the kids back over New Year's since they will be out of school, but availability is slim and we cannot afford to go deluxe. Looking more for campground/value pricing. So my question is does availability for this time of year usually change often? I'm assuming there are typically never any discounts since they are booked up. What about other travel sites (orbitz, expedia) any discounts out there now? Thanks for any help!

I used Orbitz last night to book a room in Boston. They had a 15% off "HAPPYFALL" promo.

I booked 2 weeks ago for next year (12/25-1/1) 2nd guessing myself so I looked today and the room I have booked is already sold out for my dates! I am so glad i booked, I had no idea one needed to book Christmas week 15 months ahead - I hope you find something, I suggest keep checking maybe even call sometimes people cancel

Have you considered staying off site? A 3 bedroom condo at Windsor Hills usually runs under $800/wk, even over the holidays. For your dates you could get a condo and rental car for less than the cost of the value room. If you want to stay onsite, there are a few options on the Disney site, but no discounts will be available for those dates. Orbitz has a few rooms available, and you can use their 15% off codes, but book with only two in the room then call to add the kids or else their 'glitch' will charge extra.

So I haven't considered off site, but may look into that. Are my only downsides late fastpasses and no transportation?

Fort Wilderness might have some openings come up. Things change all the time though. NYE is trickier obviously as its one of WDW's biggest times of the year. I just setup an impromptu trip in early December which had little to no availability but after stalking the rooms page on the disney website for about a week a room at a resort I wanted popped up. I was amazed how many rooms would come available as you wouldn't think people would be cancelling trips (at least not this far in advance). I'd say try doing that for a week or two and see if anything comes available. Then start looking at offsite rooms if nothing comes available!

Good Luck!

And no extra magic hours. We never make the morning emh, and they have only 2 late ones per week, so not a big deal for us but may be for others. In terms of transportation, we find driving from the front door of our condo to the park entrance MUCH faster than riding the buses. You also have to pay for parking at the parks, unless you are an Annual Passholder. Lyft would probably be cheaper than paying for a rental car and parking, but we like the flexibility of being able to shop and visit restaurants off site. We love having the extra space and full kitchen for breakfast and late night snacks. Lots of space, usually quieter hallways so kids sleep later, much less walking (to and from buses) and waiting around. Pros and cons to both.

No, your downsides are getting into the parks and fighting the masses on the roads.

If parks close to capacity because of crowds, you'll be the first not allowed in. You'll also be contending with horrific traffic, as that is the most crowded week of the year.

So I had to move what I wanted a day but lucked out on a Little Mermaid room at AOA for 12/29-1/2. So excited as I was a little nervous that I wouldn't enjoy staying offsite as much. Thank you all for your suggestions. Happy I kept trying!!!

Yes I read this about New Year's.....question do you know if MK typically gets to where resort guests are shut out on 12/30? Want to watch the fireworks there, but planning on the 30th to avoid 31st.
