Christmas at OKW?

We have a couple of questions about an upcoming stay at OKW and are hoping that some DVC vets can help us out.:flower3:

Our stay will be over the Christmas break, and we have heard that guests decorate their balconies with lights. What might be a good way to secure the lights to the balcony? Do most people bring timers down? And does anyone know what types of activities they might have for the week prior to and including Christmas?

Also, we are three weeks out now and would like to mail down some Christmas gifts. What is the best way to do this? When should we mail them?

Lastly, I asked the owner to request a certain building # or area if possible. Should I call the resort to double check if that request has been made? If so, how do I do this?

Thanks so much for any help!

You can certainly mail packages there ahead of time. I did that several years ago. Call Member Services (or have the owner do that for you) to get the exact address and another piece of info (can't remember the details now). 3 weeks out is not too early, you can mail it now.

For requests added by the owner, the only way to verify the request is in is to check with Member Services, which only the owner can do. You can ask the owner to conference you in to Member Services if you want the peace of mind. Online check-in is available 10 days before check-in. You can also add the request during online check-in, regardless of whether the request has been added by the owner yet or not.

Have a blast with your Disney Christmas vacation!

Anything that will not put holes or leave marks on the railings. Some use the command hooks that can be removed without removing the paint. Locking ties (like people use on luggage) might work. But the railings at OKW are pretty wide. Perhaps old fashioned twist ties. Don't know about the timers. Sounds like extra weight in the suitcase to me. So personal I'd leave that at home.

. . . . Lastly, I asked the owner to request a certain building # or area if possible. Should I call the resort to double check if that request has been made? If so, how do I do this?

You can only confirm this information with Member services and only the DVC member can call them. At check-in you can make sure your requests are known.

You should have your arrival date and reservation number on the package - I'd put it "To the Attention of Res # XXXX, Arrival 12/XX. The Address for OKW is:

Disney's Old Key West Resort
1510 North Cove Road
Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830

There is an outlet on the balcony for lights. You could try some no-residue tape to secure the lights. That way, the tape will come off without leaving a sticky mess.

I would not bother calling the resort. You can make requests when you arrive - just remember that they are still requests regardless when they were made.

No tape, just wrap them around the railing. That's what we did and it worked great.

We always decorate our balcony when we are there for Christmas, it makes the villa feel even more like "home". We just wrap the lights around the railing and it looks great. One year we even participated in the Christmas tree swap and that was great, not sure if they are still doint it.
