I've been reading the threads about Christmas at WDW--I'd love to hear of people's "Christmas Past" at HH! How did you decorate? Where is a good place for Christmas dinner? Do they do anything at the resort like the turkeys for Thanksgiving that I've been reading about? What kind of activities go on during the Christmas holidays? We'll be there for Christmas and New Year's Eve!

Thanks!!

Hi we were there Xmas before last. We did our own Xmas dinner , buying stuff from the local supermart. Kept it pretty simple Turkey and a few trimmings so it wasn't like one person ( or more) was chained to the cooker all day. Went for a long ( and windy) walk on the beach afterwards which made a nice change. It was a very laid back relaxing day. It's out of season to a large degree anyway and there were a lot of places closed for Xmas day so you may struggle to find somewhere with an opening if you leave it too late.

JMHO but Xmas is to me a "family day" and I'd prefer, if possible, not to eat in a restaurant where you lose some of that "intimacy"

I agree totally with you, Vernon! We really don't want to go out to eat on Christmas but won't arrive until late afternoon/early evening on 12/24. Hopefully the stores won't be packed and will still be open... I'm considering ordering a pre-made dinner from Publix. Never have done that before but this might just be a holiday for "firsts"! (First time away from home is the biggie!)

Did you decorate your villa? Did you notice if other guests did? I'm just putting ideas together about bringing things with us without adding a lot to the baggage. (We're driving down but never seem to have a lot of extra room.)

We also went to a great outdoor nativity play last time we were there on x-mas eve. It was at a stable (Sea Pines, I think)and it was very professionally done with original music. also had a kids choir. It was spnsored by one of the churches on HHI. It was packed and they had live animals for the kids to pet. The pastor did do a speech of sorts after the show, but many folks(including us) politely left. We also cooked Ham dinner in our place. The resort also has soooo many activites for that week. We have been 5 times over the holidays and love it for either end of the season. We'
ll be at WDW this New Year's and will actually miss HHI.

Thanks, Connears! That's the kind of stuff I was hoping to hear! How did you decorate? (or did you?) Although I'm really looking forward to HH at Christmas, there's something about just being home on that very special day. I'm trying to get myself excited about our first Christmas away from home. (And I know that DVC IS "home away from home" but traditions, traditions....) :D

We drove from Boston so we brought a samll tree with lights and I bought eadch of us a special ornament to hang along with some others. We brought stockings to hang and one stand of lights for the windows. HHI is very nicely decorated for the holidays. Don't forget cookies with Santa in the main lodge!
