Christmas as kids grow up

Our kids are all in their 50's and last year was the first time I didn't give any of them presents. We had just sold our Florida vacation house and our Wisconsin house and moved to a town house. The kids helped with the move and went home with truckloads of stuff - tools, furniture, china, cookware, etc. I don't think they were disappointed, but it did feel weird to not have presents under the tree.

My DD20 Santa is in full force! I couldn't never imagine it any other way. I am sure when she has a familyof her own I will scale her back a bit but...heck no. Holidays are full of magic and surprise....Santa still visits!

In my family we used to draw names for kids under 18 when there were a lot of us (for aunts, uncles etc). Now that we are down to 5 little ones, everyone just buys for them. Parents do gifts for their own children regardless of age. I'm the youngest of the married kids, I usually get a small gift to open and cash. I try to tell my parents what the cash goes to so they feel more involved, this year it will be for an excursion on our cruise for example. Son-in-laws get treated just like biological kids, but no gifts (maybe something small if we know they are coming to Christmas but that only happened once) for significant others that are not married.

We had a rule that Santa only visited believers.

Santa brings stockings to everyone who is in my house for Christmas. However, he kind of faded out visiting DD after she discovered the big secret. He still came for a year or two, but mom brought the bigger gifts instead of Santa. Last year, I think I asked if she wanted to unwrap everything or get a big pile from Santa (Santa didn't wrap for us), and she chose wrapped.
