Ok here is my deal. This past December 5 days before Christmas my grandma passed away. She was very close to my kids. So to make up for such a bad Christmas, this year I want to take them to Disneyland with a day at Seaworld & San Diego Zoo. When is the best time to go to DL before the big Christmas crowds set in? Currently I have res. for 12/23- 28. I can change and add a few days at the begining of the trip. I think on Christmas Eve, we will do the Best Friends Breakfast,I love Lilo & stitch, and Christmas Day have a character lunch/dinnerish time. For those of you have been there during this time when is the best time to go?

There is no good time to go during that week. This is THE most crowded week of the year. Sometimes there have been reports of the gates closing due to capacity. If I were you, I'd try and go the week before that one. I went last year and there were very small crowds and the decorations were great.

I don't want to prevent you from having a good time, I just want to warn you of what you might experience so that you aren't surprised.

Earlier December has less crowds.
We went during Christmas this year and I so regret going at that time.
I think it would have been an ok trip if we didn't have a newbie with us.. I wanted to be commando touring style, while my BIL was new to DL and we felt the need to slow down for him to enjoy the things we typically skip.

That and the boy likes to sleep! We don't sleep on vacation!! GO GO GO!!!

Plus hubby was cold and crabbing...
If I had never visited the park before it would be very overwhelming to deal with crowds, gate closures and people being a little more rude than average.
A Christmas trip CAN be done.. but you need to know what to expect and make use of fast passes, get up early, don't leave the park, stay until closing.... and other tips that are shared here.

Personally, I will NOT be going back at Christmas time. Early December/late November the parks are nearly empty and we like it that way.
I've gone during spring break, not at Easter though, and even with larger crowds it was a great trip... Christmas week crowds are horrible!!

junnygarcia is right, the earlier the better. We went mid-December once and the park closed everyday because it had reached capacity.

I guess I am different but I went from Dec 22-26, yes it was crowded but it was still great to be there at Christmas time. I was nervous about leaving for Christmas dinner and not getting back in the park but luckly we got back in. the fireworks were crowed or a better word might be mobbed but without little ones it wasn't back at all. I think no matter when you go you'll still feel that Christmas feel that Disney has for that holiday:santa:

I would move your days up so you are there before the holiday, not after. The week between Christmas and NY will be CRAZY.

We went over Christmas 23-26 in 2000...it was CRAZY!!! On Christmas Day, we could not even walk side by side in DL..it was single file and we got a work out dodging strollers/tourists with cameras/etc. DCA was much calmer tho. We would never go then again, but I am soooooo glad we did it once. If you are prepared for the hordes of people, it will still be fun. I can't imagine a more magical place to be on Christmas Day and I think it is great you are remembering your Grandma by taking your kids for such a great vacation!
