Just priced up a Virgin flydrive for our wedding trip next year, it comes to £1295.60 for the two of us flying on Boxing Day for 3 weeks, is that good or not? :confused3

Is that just flights? Seems okay to me

Quite often the added insurance with Virgin ends up being more expensive than hiring your car from a place like usrentacar with all the necessary insurance included. I would wait to see what the flight only prices when they are released and then see if it doesn't work out cheaper booking everything seperately, it often is cheaper that way actually

It will be free car for the first week but need to add on insurance etc.

Claire ;)

I didn't realise it was only for a week! I didn't read the small print.

A week would be perfect actually as after a week we go on the cruise so then after the cruise we could maybe get a car from someone else.

Who do you actually get the car from with Virgin and can you return it anywhere other than the airport?

I'd heard that the Flydrive price was sometimes cheaper than a flight on its own :confused3

sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't, that's why I would wait and see what the price of the flight is directly with VA

Way OTT in my opinion, basically you are paying £650 each for a flight. Car costs will be extra.
If doing a cruise renting a car seperate is far easier as you can rent thru Budget and drop off at Port Canaveral with free shuttle to the ships and then back to the rental office after your cruise.

To get an idea of prices look at Boxing day this year for 3 weeks. If you don't mind indirect then NWA have a flight for £403. Personally prefer NW to either Virgin or BA, went with them in Oct, outstanding airline.
If you don't mind flying into Tampa instead of MCO (we are next August) £349each.
Direct flight prices have gone up now being so close but there has been deals a lot better than £650, just now they are about £595.

Cheers :thumbsup2 I thought it seemed a lot but with the way things are at the moment I thought maybe the price had gone up :confused3

we looked at doing the flydrive for our anniversary trip and i decided to wait to get flights with va. we paid 635 for the flight for both of us and then 365 for a 4x4 with all insurnaces for 15 days

You should be able to get flights for around £400 pp if you wait until the new year and car hire should be less than £200 - flydrives are coming up much dearer than flight only, a complete reversal on the last few years.
VH wanted £1600 for next August for 2 adult flydrives - I got flights for £640 for both of us with VA and will book a car from the disney car centre when we arrive ( staying at POR so will get the magical express from mco).

car hire should be less than £200

We always rent Full size car. 3 weeks rental would now cost around £450(Gold) or £400(inclusive).
Thats Budget who have not had their latest increase yet. Dollar who have increased would cost about £585(Gold) £500 (Incl)
The cheapest economy car would be around £350(Gold)

Renting cars has got V expensive recently.

BA prices came out today £635.50 each GULP!

Would be cheaper to take the Virgin flydrive, 26th for 2 weeks £1273.60 less 4% Quidco £1,222.66 (£611.33pp) plus you only have to pay deposit now.
I would expect Virgin flight only to be around £500pp but still a bit early, only date you can check now is 26th-28th at £524.20, hopefully not returning until mid Jan they will be a little cheaper.

I hope so! Was thinking about upgrading to PE but no way will that be happening now.

Hey Chilly, how you doing?

We booked our flights yesterday for Dec 09. We fly out on 4th December and come back on 28th and they were £420 each with about £9 back on Quidco.

That's with Continental flying from Birmingham to Orlando International via Newark.

I'd been tracking flights all last year so had an idea of what a good price was. They went anything from £395 to £900 so I was happy with the price we paid. We also have the peace of mind that the flights are booked and paid for.

I'm sick of waiting to book! I'm sure you know that feeling.

I don't think I could cope with the stress of changing plans like you are doing so I guess I'm just going to have to pay more than I'd hoped.

I'm looking forward to knowing they are booked.

Just under 3 weeks till I can price up Virgin.

(The day you fly home is my birthday)
