And it must have been a total party up there! Last night,I took him up to his room, sat him in the bed and put the blanket near his hands. He's recently been learning to to pull his covers up himself and he just delights in it. Well, this morning I went in to get him up for breakfast and found him in his *other* twin bed. He had pulled the sheet off the top portion of the bed, slid himself onto the bare mattress and drawn the fitted sheet up to his chin, fast asleep.:rotfl:

Well done Christian!!!

Bet you are just bursting with pride and quite right too! Another step forward.:cheer2::cheer2:

Awesome !!!! Thanks for sharing his accomplishment , sweet boy , I can just picture him all snuggled up too.

Good for him! I guess that you'll have to make up both beds from now on.

I have to admit that when I read your title, I was thinking it was some sort of weird religious joke.

That is soooo cool! The more independent things he can do for himself, the better off he'll be. It may not sound like much to some, but that is HUGE. Good job!

I once worked with an older student for months to get him to be able to pick up his own cup and drink through a straw. It took lots of baby steps, but he learned how and wow -- he was able to drink on his own without having to wait for someone to feed it to him.

Aaaah, that's so sweet minkydog.

 The thing is, both beds *were* made up. He pulled the pillow and the fitted sheet off and lay down on the bare mattress to sleep. I guess he couldn't find his blankie so he just covered up with one end of that fitted sheet.

It is huge. He has been working on putting himself down all summer. I used to have to really work with him, and even give him Melatonin so he would go to sleep. Over the summer he's been working on recognising when he's sleepy and going to bed when he's ready, around 9:30. No sleep aids involved. It does seem like a silly little thing, but it's so major for him. ANYTHING that I can teach him to do independantly is that much more control he has in his life.

Yes it IS huge Minkydog! Celebrate it! In my years working with teens and adults with severe autism I have learned to celebrate the tons of small miracles that I see happen. I had been working with one of my girls for months on wetting her hair during her bath. There was much whooping and hollering the first time she did it on her own. She was SO proud of herself and I LOVED being able to call her parents and give them good news.

Congratulations to you and of course to Christian!

Linda
