Choosing a room view?

I've read in the guide books about each Disney resort's best/worst rooms to choose based on things like noise, view, convenience, etc. The guide books say you can make a request for a specific room but it won't be guaranteed. What is the likelyhod that a request is honored? How do I make a request for a particular room?

I don't know that I've ever heard of anyone getting a specific room request, only building, floor and view. ~~
