Hi everyone!

I am new to the DVC disboards but a frequent of the Disney Bride disboards (we just had our Disney wedding at the wedding pavilion, reception at Citricos, and an Epcot Illuminations dessert party May 18th).

My husband and I are DVC members and used a lot of our points to book rooms for our family members for the wedding. It was the best decision we ever made to buy in! Our home resort is BLT and we've stayed there a few times and LOVE it! We have also stayed in the Wilderness Lodge and Animal Kingdom locations, too.

The reasons I am writing this is that we are anxiously planning a short trip in January (2013) and wanted to stay somewhere new. For now we have our sights on Old Key West at 53 points for the trip. Our back up plan is Boardwalk at 53 points also but we will have to waitlist for it since two of our dates are full/already booked up. The final back up plan is Animal Kingdom Jambo at 57 points.

I know nothing about Old Key West other than the few DVC brochures I've dug up from my files and poking around on websites. I was hoping to offer up this thread for any insights on staying there! Thanks in advance for any help in our decision of where to stay!

Don't make a big deal out of it. As a DVC Member, you will eventually stay at all of the resorts.

Pick one and have a great time. :goodvibes

OKW is great. We just stayed there for the first time this year and we really loved it. In 4 years, we have stayed everywhere on property except BLT (and some places multiple times), so I agree eventually you may try them all, so I wouldn't worry about where you end up too much.

Hello and welcome!!

OKW is really nice. We stayed there for the 1st time last February and fell in love with it. A very laid back vibe, seems like you are in a tropical location. Olivia's has become a favorite too. The boat ride to DTD is relaxing and convenient. Bus service was much better than expected. The only wrinkle is that the studios all have 2 queen beds, no sofas. Rooms are quite spacious as are the bathrooms. Plus if you drive you can park right at your door. We really, really like OKW. Can't wait to return.

BWV is also very nice. Great location and the atmosphere is fun. Easy walk to the back entrance to Epcot or you could take the boat. Boat or walk to DHS. The one negative is that there is only 1 bank of elevators and they have very, very long hallways. Parking can be a huge pain, far from your room.

Haven't stayed at AKV Jambo but were there visiting our DD and her DH a couple of weeks ago. Beautiful room, very spacious. More long hallways. Again, parking is far from the room. Boma and Jiko are big plusses.

Hope this helps. Have fun!!

I'm not sure when you plan to be there in January, but marathon weekend is very busy. That being said I'm sure where ever you pick you will have a great time.

It sounds like, at 53 points, you are getting a studio? Just know that all OKW studios have 2 queen beds rather than the queen & sofa sleep configuration of most studios. While the 2 queen beds work for many families, most people on couples only trips would prefer a resort with the queen & sofa.

OKW rooms are large and very comfortable, you'll have a great time.

With DVC, you jsut can't wrong. I'm an owner at OKW, and you are going to love it. Spacious rooms, the decor and atmosphere, fewer points.....it's heaven on earth.

in my opinion, the only big benefit to OKW is the boat to downtown disney. i have been to fl in jan and it wasn't really warm enough to swim and there really isn't much else to do at OKW
however AKV has some swanky bars, restauraunts, the fire pit nightly, lots of animals and swimming in case it's warm enough. the rooms and atmosphere at both kidani & jambo house feels very posh as well so i'd go w/AKV

akv Jambo house might be better for Jan than okw - just because of the way it looks.

that say WL/VWL is great for Jan because of those fireplaces.

oKW is spread out - now still love it and it will always be a favorite - but since the resorts you have stayed at are the ones attached to hotels - think you will be happier at another one.

OKW and SSR are more like communities than hotels - so think OKW would be a big change for you.

Be prepared to be upset at any other DVC resort rooms after staying at OKW. OKW has the largest rooms of ANY DVC resorts.
Be sure to take a boat ride to DTD.

I agree, all the resorts have there high/low points....either one will be a great experience. I wouldn't sweat over it much.

Just Enjoy!

And Congratulations on the Wedding.

Look at my video of a one bedroom at OKW. The villas are big and you park right outside your door. It really feels like home. All the DVC resorts are great. Have fun!
