Choice Hotels, bait and switch?

I purchased 1,000 points today from Choice Hotels for $12.80 to add to my balance of 7,258 points in order to get a $25 Disney gift card for 8,000 points. No problem. When I went back in to purchase the gift card it said I had already redeemed points within the last 48 hours and I can't use them at the moment. Which is complete BS. I am wondering if this is a bait and switch from Choice Hotels, and if anyone else out there has had such an experience?

I don’t really understand the question OP is asking. Why would you spend 12.80 on 1000 pts to redeem to get to 8000 pts for a $25 gift card. The math just doesn’t work for me, 7000 points should be worth 12.80 *7=89.6 so at least a $75 gift card for it to be worth the expense.

Recently redeemed SW points to get gift cards since I don’t fly anymore.
So you had the points already and had to purchase a few more to get a free gift card with $25 value.
Their system probably recognized one transaction but had not updated to the next and required a waiting time to verify and update.
I would expect you were allowed after midnight for the next calendar day hopefully. Technically, you used point “ accounting “ when you purchased and tried to redeem with that time frame. Their system had to refresh and update .

The points were set to expire next month. Use them or lose them.

There is A LOT of fraud in the miles and points world....and a lot of it involves gift cards. It wouldn't surprise me if this is some sort of fraud protection measure. Sometimes there are "holds" on accounts when points are bought or transferred in....have to wait a certain amount of time before you can use those points. I'd guess that is what is going on here.
