*Chocolate and Pixie Dust* - An August 2008 TR- 8/29 pg 6: Sort of an update

I love Chef Mickeys for breakfast - I've never done anything but breakfast there. How great that you are staying in the Contemporary for a night - my all time favorite resort.

I'm excited about the Contemporary too! I remember always wanting to stay there as a kid. I think T will love watching the monorail zip through the building.

Take the spreadsheet offer. I have a good one too if you want it. :goodvibes

I am! And I'd love to take a look at yours too. I need all the help I can get :lmao:

I know that a lot of people will be taking that day off (calling in sick), but I want to do it legally as it will be my tenure year...and I don't want to take any chances! :rotfl:
Lil Rhody is the greatest smallest state in the union! (I lived there during collge, and i tis such a part of me!)

OOOH OHHH, count ime in!!!
I noticed that for AAA. Sometimes Amtrak is cheaper without AAA, and sometimes it messes you up....

I feel the same way about tenure. Next year is my tenure year as well.

I think a visit to RI soon is in order.

A NYC meet would be fun!

Isn't it weird how sometimes AAA doesn't save you money?

All this talk of Vodka is driving this part Russian batty........;)

Native....I'll PM you.

I love vodka :thumbsup2 I should do an update on the many uses of grey goose :rotfl2:

I got your PM.

I have a chocolate Lab...100 pounds of dark chocolate.

I'll put him on the train to NYC in the morning...j/k but somedays he's too much...he follows me everywhere.

How cute! I love chocolate labs. They're beautiful dogs.

If you can, post a pic. I'd love to see him.

I'm ALL CAUGHT UP!!!!:cheer2: Yay, Me!! :cheer2:

Ok - first things first - YOU MUST TRY A DOLE WHIP!!! Best thing to eat in MK!!! :woohoo:

Secondly - look into the Dolphin and Swan - you can get a Teacher's Discount. (my husband works for MetLife (they own both hotels) and gets an employee discount, so we pay an obscenely low rate.:cool1:)

Thirdly... count me in on the vodka fan club! :goodvibes I love a "Grey Goose Gimlet" and I have a bottle of Van Gough Chocolate in my freezer right now! :drinking1

Dole Whip is a must try for the next trip :thumbsup2

I didn't know about the teacher discount at the Dolphin and Swan. I am going to check into it today. Do you just call and tell them you're a teacher?

I think we need to start a DIS vodka fan club :lmao:

Call them directly and give them your dates and ask about the Teacher Discount. Not all dates are available, but you can usually work within them. Our first year, DH's employee rates weren't available for our travel time, so I took the slightly higher Teacher rate. When you check in, you show them a school ID or paystub. Worth checking into for a "deluxe" resort in a fabulous location. (We prefer the Dolphin to the Swan because it's bigger, livelier, and has 24 hour food. lol) :cool1:

Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin Information

Discounted rates starting at $179* per night!
**Discount for Teacher / Education Support Staff, US Government Employee/Military and Nurses. Based on hotel availability and not all dates are available.

Hey! I've just found your report! Looks like I've got ALOT of catching up to do!! :surfweb:

Thanks so much for the info. I am trying to squeeze in another trip in October. If I can get a better rate at the Dolphin or Swan, I'm going to stay there. Calling today. I'll keep you posted!

Just called the WDW Swan & Dolphin to check rates for a possible October trip. The rate is $179/night. It's the teacher discount rate!!! Thanks SingingMom:flower3:

Now I'm going to call WDW Travel and AAA to see if I would be able to swing an even cheaper rate.

So, right now the possible resorts for the possible October trip are, in no particular order:

1. Swan & Dolphin
2. POR or POFQ
3. BC or BWI
4. one of the monorail resorts- Poly, CR, or GF

I called Disney to get the AAA room only rate for October. The CM priced the POFQ and Poly. For 4 nights (Columbus day weekend) the POFQ will be $631.16. The Poly would be $1,615.96 for 4 nights :scared1: This doesn't include passes or the dining plan. I cannot believe the Poly is almost $1,000.00 more. Holy Cannoli!

I'm going to call AAA later to price out a package.

I'm using a bounceback for the Poly in August. I wonder how much $$$ I would save if I switched to the POR. :scratchin

Your nephew is so cute. I love the halloween party.

I've stayed at 1. and 2. ---- Dolphin wins HANDS DOWN for me. ;) It's got a luxury hotel feel - POR and POFQ are nice and themed, but I don't like the bus waits, how crowded the buses always seemed to be, or the outside room doors. (motel feel for me) I'd say try the Dolphin once and see what you think. Proximity to the Boardwalk is an added plus - nice leisurely walk to there and Epcot, if it isn't too hot! :yay:

I'm beginning to agree with you. If I can get a deluxe hotel for under $200 a night, I think it's a no brainer.

2 things:

1. We're staying at POFQ in Oct.---the 24th-26th.

2. I'm going to the IRA Convention! :woohoo: My wonderful principal "found" the money, and I'm so excited! Now I've just gotta figure out which hotel to stay in!

I am all caught up again! Great shoes! Love the t-shirt! Can't wait to hear what you decide about October!

Brittbritt, you're coming to the ATL too for IRA!?

Congrats on the IRA...
I stayed in the Hilton...it was really nice. The cafe had a nice breakfast, and it was in walking distance to a bunch of good restaurants.

Sorry for hijacking! :upsidedow

Yes, May 4th-8th! I was able to register today and sign up for some FABULOUS sessions. You should come at least for a day. I was overwhelmed by the amount of awesome sessions available.

Congrats on the IRA...

I think I'm narrowed down to the Marriott Marquis or the Sheraton...Anyone ever stayed in these hotels in Atlanta?
