For the past week all I've heard is chirping. I replace the battery. Seem to be OK. It's starts chirping after 12 hours. I clean out the smoke alarm and put in another battery seems OK again until night. It starts chirping again. Maybe the batteries I have at home are not good. I purchase a new battery, guess what it's chirping. This chirping is driving me nuts. I guess it's time for a new alarm. On friday I purchase a new smoke alarm, not a cheap one, a good one with a (CO) alarm too.

I install the new alarm with the battery it comes with and go to work. I come home to a alarm thats chirping. The alarm is not sounding, it's the low battery chirp. I go to work yesterday and buy a new lithium battery, install the battery. Seems to be working fine. DH and I go out for a bit-to-eat. I come home to an alarm that is chirping.

Anybody know anything about why this is happening? I am not having problems with any of my other alarms. Could I just have a defective alarm. The old one and the new one???????????

are you sure it is the low battery chirp? If the new one has a CO detector and the old one didn't, sometimes the CO detectors chirp at low level's of CO

Thats weird,I would guess....... your house is haunted.

Thanks Alex thats what I'm wondering too. Where would the (CO) be coming from? The furnace??????

It could be, ours used to do it whenever my wife pulled in the garage and closed the door right away, we have an attached garage.

As said above, you could have a very low level CO. Same with us and garage. Door closed too quickly, and CO alarm will sound off, low level, with a chirp.

Guess I call the furnace people on monday and see if this is the problem. I guess thats the best place to start. Thanks again Alex.

Thinking about it, it used to take a few minutes from the time we pulled in, if you are coming home to a chirp it's more likely something else, when was the last time you had your furnace serviced? Even if it's a very low level it's not healthy to be contiuously exposed.
Saw your reply after I posted! Yes I would definitely get it checked and let them know when I called that my CO alarm was acting funny.

I agree with Alex. CO isn't something to play with at all., please get it checked soon.

I may have missed this, but did your first alarm have the CO detector also? I was a little confused on this. Either way, I wouldn't mess around with CO - even low level. As others have said, have it checked.

When I first read this, it reminded me of our house every year around this time. We live on a farm & the indoor spider population increases with the cold weather (just like the rodents, but that's another issue! :( ) Anyway, we have that chirpping because of the spiders. Even a single strand of spider web (often something we can't see) will cause the chirpping.

Alex thank you very much. The old alarm had a CO detector too. My guess is it's the furnace, I have it cleaned every year. The chirping started about a week ago when I turned the furnace on to take out the chill. I've turned it off and aired out the house the chirping has stopped.

Anyone who reads this: Get a CO Alarm I would never have known this if the alarm had not started chirping. They sure are lifesavers.

Throughout our house, we have 8 CO and 8 smoke detectors (2 of them dual sensor style), plus 1 natural gas detector. Oh, and 1 water alarm. We don't take chances. Glad you shut off the furnace for now, Mamu.

water alarm? i've never heard of that. where does it test for water?

Hey thanks for the reminder about CO. We used to have one in our old apartment, but since we bought the new house, I didn't even think of it. We have smoke detectors, but no CO detectors. Guess I'll be making a run to Walmart now...or it'll be on my mind all night and I won't sleep.
