Chiquita Bananas to sponsor Living with the Land

Horrible dicision by Disney. Why allow a company that funds terrorists into the park? I wont be going in the Land Pavilion for awhile.

I'm not sure it's fair to use present tense. I'm not defending Chiquita, but it's not as if Chiquita is funneling money to Al-Qaeda.

Yes, back in 2007, Chiquita Brands International admitted to illegally paying protection money to a group known for terrorism in Colombia -- to avoid being a target of that group. It has to be very difficult trying to run a business in Columbia without be shaken down, but what Chiquita did is illegal. Chiquita had to pay a $25 million fine.

The following MSNBC article has more details:

That was 4 1/2 years ago. I'm not aware of new allegations of this kind since then. I'm glad that Chiquita has now decided it's better to pay money to Disney than to criminals in Columbia. I hope they've figured out a good way to run their farming operations without being the target of those criminals.

Other current and former Disney sponsors also have skeletons in their closets.

Nestle, the Swiss-based company with longtime sponsorship links to Disney (including Nescafe, Carnation, Buitoni, Stouffer's, and chocolate products), had a long history of pushing infant formula as superior to breast milk to third world mothers who don't have access to the clean water necessary to provide safe formula or the financial resources to buy enough formula to mix it to the right proportion -- with disease and death of babies as the consequence. The Nestle Boycott is still going on. Google "Nestle Boycott" if you want to know more.

Coca Cola and McDonald's are two other companies that have had serious allegations against them.

I'm going to continue to go into The Land pavilion, and I'll continue to ride on Living With The Land, Presented by Chiquita, as well as the other attractions in The Land that are not sponsored by Chiquita.

And I'll continue to avoid Nescafe -- not because of the Nestle Boycott, but because I prefer good coffee

Slightly off topic, but in the 3-D discussion about Star Tours, I've ridden it 3 times and it is awesome!
