Has anyone ever gotten to-go food from 9 Dragons? Is it that their food is bad, or just not "Disney special."? I was thinking that using a TS credit or 2 to get some stuff to take back to the room would be kind of nice, but I'm not sure that's allowed.

We ate there last tuesday and the food was good and I'm chinese! I think it depends on what dish you get...we got the drunken chicken, the noodle dish and the ma po tofu...all pretty authentic although slightly smaller portions than our local chinese restaurant...not sure if they do to go - would love to know too...will definitely go back our next trip - plus we got a table by the window and had a great view of the fireworks!

This has to do with all the park restaurants. All the food is planned for eating on the premises. The Counter Service locations gives you the food on plates or bowls which do not have covers (except for some pre-packaged items such as salads and sandwhiches. The Table Service locations do have containers to package leftovers, but most do not have carrying bags.

None of them provide tableware or anything else, but the CS locations do have plasticware available.

How do you expect to get the food from a park all the way back to the room, and what will you eat it on after you get there?

The food at 9 Dragons is quite good, IMO, but we have noticed a serious "portion shrinkage" the past few years! It used to be if you ordered the dinner for two the two entrees were served on platters by themselves and you received a large community bowl of rice. This time the entrees were plated with a scoop of rice on each plate and a scoop of entree. We also ordered one additional entree as we have done in the past for two adults and two children. Well, younger dd10 took an entire plate of sesame chicken for herself :rotfl:, leaving DH, myself and other DD to share a sesame chicken and a kung pao chicken! We had enough food, but in the past we would always have some left on the plates when ordering this amount. I guess the DDP has caused this, but I think $70 for what we ordered without a tip was a bit ridiculous.

Hmm . . . I hadn't thought they wouldn't have the packaging (I mostly wondered if it would be allowed on the DDP.) I thought I could take it back to my room via bus, stick it in the fridge, and then reheat it when I felt like eating it. I got upgraded to a 1BR Villa, so there will be a kitchen with plates and utensils. I probably won't even try to do anything like that, but it was an idea; last year the DDP was too much food, but we still wanted midnight snackage. It would probably be more practical just to order some things to reheat from gardengrocer.

Tasha, i say go for it. If you had that idea. Go for it. As long as you are not holding the thing you want to take back in the scorching heat for hours. You should have no problem. :thumbsup2

Oh and congrats on winning the free upgrade!!:thumbsup2

In not so distant past it was AYCE of the entrees in the dinners for 2 or more and included Dim Sum appetizers. Sorry to hear that the portions have shrunk even further.
We noticed the same thing at Rose and Crown this past week. Many people don't want nor need big portions but when you're paying a premium you tend to expect a premium product or bigger portion.

I agree. You still get a mini dim sum, two egg rolls and two dumplings, along with two soups. We ordered the dinner for two, the extra order of kung pao at like $17 and two extra egg rolls. Even last spring ('06) you still got the bowl of rice and the entrees were plattered, albeit there were only about 12 pieces of sesame chicken :rotflmao: This time it was, I kid you not, like one scoop of rice and one scoop of entree on a square plate. It was even funnier when younger DD says, I'll take that plate, and procedes to eat the whole thing!

As for our Rose & Crown experience, all I can remember was a whole lot of green peas and a few pieces of fish & chips for something like $15 at lunch!

Again, we were sharing with the girls because they don't like to eat from most kids menus, so needless to say we ordered an extra fish & chips :)
