Children's ticket for someone no longer a child

So I bought Canadian resident tickets a long time ago anticipating a trip to WDW. Then life happened, covid happened, and we never went. Now we are going Jan 2024. But my daughter is no longer a "child" under the Disney system, but her ticket (assigned to her in My Disney Experience App) is a children's ticket. Will Disney honour the ticket even though she's now a Disney "adult"?

My gut would tell me you need to call Disney or speak with guest services upon arrival. I've read where a few people on the boards indicated that it was a non-issue as they had similar experiences. If you did have an issue, I presume this would likely come up the first time you go to use the ticket at the gate. But again, it's hard to know since even when you call Disney, the person you speak to may not really know the correct answer. From what I gathered, people said Disney was making good on the original sale and due to covid, etc. they'll still honor those tix purchased as is. But it's also 2024 so they're policies may have changed.

How long ago? Is it a date-based ticket and/or an expiration date?

A partially-used child's ticket that has not expired can be used by that same person as an adult. It will be "upgraded" in the system for free.

However if the ticket is fully-unused I don't believe she can use it as-is without bringing it up to adult pricing. You'll want to crunch some numbers to be sure if it's really worth upgrading it. If it is old enough to not have an expiration date, save it for a niece, nephew, grandchild at some point.

It is an expiration date ticket and is fully unused. It expires in 2030 so I don't think saving for a grandchild is an option :). My nieces and nephews are all older than my daughter. I wonder how much it would cost to upgrade?

I was thinking an older (like pre-2016) ticket carried no expiration and could be held for someone in the future.

That 2030 expiration must be something special to Canadian Resident tickets? I'm not familiar with those, and I don't think any regular tickets offered in the US have that kind of expiration. So I think you need to contact WDW to find out if it can be converted to an adult Canadian Resident ticket -- if those are still offered.

@Mintycake I hope you have a great trip next January.

My family experienced a similar situation years ago - we bought non-expiration child tickets, and then the kids grew into "Disney adult" status. While these were different from the tickets you describe, I believe they might be handled similarly. For us, the CM converted them to adult tickets at no cost, allowing the tickets to continue to be used regardless of the age of the child. I will note that our tickets were partially used (i.e., 6 days used out of 10), so we did need to keep the tickets bound to the same user and couldn't swap them for another person. Since your tickets have never been utilized, I would imagine you could use them on a different person if you need to.

Overall, the CMs were very helpful, though it did take a little bit of time at the ticket window for us. They could not do it over the phone, so we did have to go to the ticket window in person. If you'd rather take care of it earlier with a CM before you arrive at the parks, I believe there are CMs at Disney Springs that might be able to do similar help for you. I hope it's easy for you to make the change and get what you need.

Hope you have a great trip!

^ I've paid to have a Child ticket to an Adult ticket over the phone (did this 2 years ago). Unfortunately it's not something you can do yourself on the app, which would be the most convenient way.

I don’t know about Disney World but we had this situation for Disneyland last fall and it wasn’t a problem. No one said a word about it.

If they were pre-dated based when you added them into MDE it would show an expiration date of 2030. Our tickets bought from UT in 2016 were like that. So I'm guessing that's what the OP is talking about.

I'd call Disney ahead of the trip and have them translate it into an adult ticket. I doubt they'll charge you.
