I'm sure that is the only way pretty much everywhere. But there are people who cheat the system, just like people cheat any kind of system. That is why I want to put all those people away and never let them out.

My best friend in 3rd grade was abused by her mother, she burned her hair off and would put her cigarretes out on her scalp and she would throw things at my friend. My friend's father got costody of her but her 3 sisters still lived with their mother. And when she would go over there for visits she would be abused all over again. She is really messed up now, so I know what it is like to see people like this and have them be really close to you. But the law is not fair and you can't do much about it. Again why I want to be a lawyer.

I am glad we both want to do something to help these kids.

Shelby, I think your idea of the psychoanalysis is wonderful, but there is no way people would ever be willing to deal with that. People are not going to sit around and have to take a test or be analyzed to have a child. And who is going to put the time and effort into the testing? MY guess would be not nearly enough people.

By the way that law about dropping off the children anomously {sp?} Is called Safe Haven, it is happening all over the US, its brilliiant. As long as people are smart enough to use it to there advantage.

I think can be a very controversial topic at points. Exactly how can you seperate the good aprents from the abd parents? I mean good parents have there days when they aren't great parents, everyone makes mistakes. And sometimes even the msot perferct families, the "greatest parents" are really the ones beating hteir children behind closed doors.

I think it would be wonderful if we could get all these abused, neglected children away from the horrible parents, and granted I want it to happen, I jsut don't think it will work.

Has anyone ever heard of Genie? we learned about her in Ap psychology. Her father locked her in her room when she was born and fed her 3 small meals a day, she never came out of her room, never learned to talk, I'm not sure if he beat her or abused her physically, but the emotional damage, by the time she was finally discovered and let out [her mother, and I beleive there was another sibling couldn't do anyhting about telling anyone in order to not be hurt bythe father] the girl could never learn how to talk to fully understand because she had missed all of the important brain growths by not having any nurishment, or basically a life. Want to talk about bad parents there is a PERFECT example.

I really don't think every mother should be checked, just the ones who are at risk. If the baby's parents are together, and both will be active in the baby's upbringing then again, if they are at risk, they should be checked.

Every baby in america is given a drug test at birth. If the baby fails, they don't necessarily have to give you your child. That is done to the good parents, the bad parents, the druggies and the not druggies. I don't know how you expect to determine at risk right up front. Someone, somewhere is going to have to check everyone to determine the at risk.

It makes sense to test parents or mothers before they have a baby. But how do you know who is going to have a baby, who cant have a baby, and when they are going to have a baby. Alot of abuses are from mothers that were raped and a baby resulted and they see the rapist in the child, but they want to keep the baby because it is part of them. You couldn't have tested her to see if she was a good mother if you didn't know she was going to have a baby and you can't take every child away from the mother if it was a result of a rape because how do you know what the mother will be like to the child, maybe she feels bad for it and can take care of it. There is no way that you can test EVERY SINGLE mother and father out there, before they have a child.

I think they have a movie about her called Mockingbird. Or something like that.
