Children under 5 Covid vaccination

The files I sent to Safe Passage were uploaded on 7/13. Nearly a month after FDA approval had occurred.

Another update. 2 phone calls later and several hours of time invested, and somehow the party line is still 'Disney only accepts the Pfizer vaccine in this age group.' It is absolutely absurd and frustrating to say the least. It is not like the approval occurred 3 days ago. On top of that, the safe passage team basically pleads the middle man 'well we have no control, only Disney can decide what is accepted and you aren't allowed to talk to the approving team at Disney.'

I re-uploaded the vaccine cards in addition to their trial cards. I sent them a link to the FDA approval in the email. I'm at a loss for what else to do, hopefully I am fighting this fight so that they will change their policy and nobody else does going forward. If they still deny, not sure how else to fight it, so if anyone else has ideas let me know.

Thank you for the update and for fighting with them. This is infuriating. Have you spoken to DCL yourself? Safe Passage said you can’t talk to them but I would try calling and asking to speak to a supervisor.

We’re debating getting our son vaccinated, only because he just has Covid. He won’t have to test with the 90 day approval letter. But I’d really like him to not have to wear a mask in kids club if he is vaccinated. I wish there was a way to get a direct answer.

Did the 5+ have to have had their 2nd dose a certain amount of time/days prior to the cruise? Or just that they had it was enough? We're trying to plan in case DCL flips the switch on the under 5s (we're traveling with two).

I think they meant when they changed the rules to include 5+ needing vaccinations, did Disney allow enough time to get fully vaccinated or not?

The vaccine for ages 5-11 was approved in late October and DCL did not require it of that age group until January 13th. I think DCL announced the requirement a couple of weeks after approval, so maybe just long enough if families acted quickly after the DCL announcement. It was fairly close.

How that will play out for ages 6mos to 4 remains to be seen, especially with the vast difference between Pfizer and Moderna for this age. I could see DCL making an announcement that would take effect 6-8 weeks later which is long enough for Moderna, maybe not enough time for the full Pfizer series though.

I’m going to be so angry if my 3 yr olds vaccine doesn’t count and she has to get tested 3 times and wear a mask. One of the reasons I jumped to get the vaccine so fast was because of the cruise and wanting to make the cruise easier for her. Yeah, we had wanted Moderna for that reason - much faster protection. But our pediatrician was only offering Pfizer, and we have had a rough month, so we just took the path of least resistance that didn't require us to drive into the city for a vaccine clinic.

Pfizer is Dose 1, then 3-8 weeks later Dose 2, then >8 weeks later Dose 3. Our son's appointment for his next Pfizer is in 3 weeks. So all told, it's a minimum of 11 weeks to get protection from Pfizer, and it's only a minimum of 4 for Moderna. Pfizer is a much lower dose, hence the need for 3 instead of 2.

On the upside, going by this, our son will get his last Pfizer shot in mid-September, which should mean he'll be booster eligible six months after that in March, which is the month before we cruise. So that's a perk I guess.

Acceptable in general, yes. Accepted by Disney, apparently neither Pfizer or Moderna for kids under 5 are being recognized.

According to one of the posts above, Disney is misinformed and only accepting Pfizer for 5+. However, the FDA approved Moderna for that age group last month.

Agreed. We wanted to get him vaccinated ASAP anyway, but having it happen before our cruise was a big plus. He is the only child in our party and it is going to make me so anxious if he has to be tested at the port because the entire vacation literally depends on him--and the entire vacation is FOR him.

Same! The vacation is just me and my 3 yr. Old. So, it is all about her. I was so excited thinking that since she’d be vaccinated, I would know before we even saw the ship if we could get on or not. It lowered my anxiety about not getting on and her being so disappointed. Now that’s all up in the air again since Disney can’t get their act together. I’m just glad that I have a few more months till we sail and, hopefully, by then, Disney will get it together

Safe Passage rejected my 4 year old’s vaccination card. I waited on hold with Disney for 3 hours to be told they haven’t issued guidance on vaccines for under 5 and it was up to Safe Passage/Inspire. Others in my FB group have called Safe Passage directly and they point the finger at Disney and claim to only follow direction by Disney. I’m furious that I put so much effort into getting my child vaccinated and ensuring he would clear the two weeks after last lose for “fully vaccinated” status prior to departure only to having Safe Passage and Disney point fingers at each other! It’s been over a month since the CDC approved this age group and this is infuriating!

I wonder how much of this is because no under-5 are fully vaccinated yet, other than kids who participated in clinical trials. Our DS3 was vaccinated in the first week when moderna is available and will be “fully vaccinated“ in early August, pretty early relatively speaking.

I wish Disney would give guidance ahead of time but we’re just plan assuming Disney would do the right thing in time.

btw, as someone who was in the vaccine trials, kudos to the kids and parents in the kids vaccine trial, I can’t image how tough that was.

My daughter will be just under 5 when we sail next month and won't be vaccinated. What are the requirements for testing for her? I assume she won't have to wear a mask in the kids club?
