Children in the jacuzzis

Children should NEVER submerge their heads in a hot tub! Our kids know it is a place to relax and be quiet since we have one at home. If I were getting splashed they would hear about it.

By the way, how do those adult couples do all those "things" in a hot tub full of snorkeling hellions?

At OKW there were a bunch of older kids around but they were behaving themselves. I wasn't concerned with them. I was concerned with the kid who couldn't have been more than one. He was like most other kids his age and wanted to do nothing but walk around the ledge that people sit on while his dad held his hand. He was grinning and really enjoying this. He wore a swim diaper, and I know these work pretty well because my nephews wear them, so I didn't think much about that.

However, I thought he was way too young to be in a hot tub. That, and you couldn't just sit there on the ledge because the kid was walking around it. You'd have to let him pass. It wasn't the first time I've seen folks with a baby in a hot tub, so I read the sign to see if it said anything about restricting ages. All it said was that the hot tub was not recommended for young children.

I was at BCV once when a bunch of little girls were having a cannonball contest in the hot tub (which isn't very big). A teenaged brother or cousin or something was watching them and he didn't seem concerned with whether or not they were bothering anybody. I don't have a problem with seeing kids (older kids) in the spas if they're behaving themselves.

LOL Tom. :p You know what's worse? Some gross guy (in his 40's maybe younger, mayber older) breaking wind in the hot tub and thinking it's hysterical.

I'll take children in the hot tub, even the snorkler, over the human bubble machine anyday. :o Kids aren't the only ones that may not know how to conduct themselves in a hot tub.

I suspect that the parents who support their kids in the hot tub will feel differently when their own kids are older. Childrearing is so exhausting that it's easier to just let them do what they want sometimes. When they are older you will find it much harder to tolerate other peoples kids because you will have already endured it yourselves and will want a break!

I gave up hot tubs a couple of years ago. A year or two ago I took a weekend trip to Niagara Falls. I stayed at a chain hotel that had an indoor pool and hot tub. BF and I decided to head down to the indoor hot tub. We sat for a few minutes and then my BF saw a look of horror creep onto my face. Behind him was a layer of foam. IT WAS COVERED in what appeared to be PUBIC HAIR. This definitely wasn't hair from one's head. Short and curly...UGH I'm talking masses of it. Either someone had a hairy back...or...Oh who knows??? It looked like it was coming out of one of the vents and surfacing on the foam
We immediately evacuated the pool and went to scrub our bodies clean. BLECH. NEVER AGAIN.

Thanks for clearing that up epcotfan. Seems to me, that all families are welcome in the hot tub. These are the rules posted at Coronado Springs in case anyone hasn't seen epcotfan's link:

In case of emergency, dial 911.
No food, drink, glass or animals in pool or on pool deck.
Bathing load: 22 persons.
Spa hours: 8am - Midnight.
Shower before entering.
Maximum use: 15 minutes.
Maximum water tempreature: 104 degrees.
Children under 12 must have adult supervision.
Pregnant women, small children, people with health problems and people using alcohol, narcotics or other drugs that cause drowsiness should not use spa pools without first consulting a doctor.
For safety, diaper age children must wear plastic pants or swim diapers.

Clearly the snorkler and his mom were breaking the rules :p, so were the little kids cherry bombing into the water with no adult supervision. Clearly families that have young children who want to use the hot tubs, are not breaking the rules; they have every right to do so, as stated by WDW's rules. :)

I'm surprised to see that there are no rules that say: no swimming, no diving, etc. I really am. Maybe there are smaller signs posted nearby????

 Ick! Ick! Ick! Epcotfan!
I'm not a hottub fan because I passed out once getting out of one. Luckily, I fell onto the concrete and not into the tub! There was no one else around and I came to and was all alone. Ever since, I have been very reluctant to get in one. We did get in one in PF, TN one year. I think I relaxed about 3 mins. and then got out. It is hard to relax when you are afraid of passing out.:o :p
We did, however, let DD (then about 6) get in for a few mins.

This is such an ugly thread to read. Some people have obviously raised some hellions on this thread to think that children are so badly behaved. My child is well behaved and I KNOW it--it is not a figment of my imagination.

I know what you are saying. I was at WL hot tub and just wanting to relax and in jump s and I mean jumps a little kid like it is a pool. the father was just a few steps away and obvous he didn't care. These hot tubs are not a kiddy pool but people let their kids use them like it is. :(

YUCK, that just made up my mind, never again for me. I haven't even used the pools recently. I read on here were someones kid did a poop in the pool at AK lodge tha was it for me. To many germs to take the chance anymore

Yeah it was really disgusting. That totally put me off.
Here are the pool rules if anyone is interested:

They clearly state: NO DIVING and that CHILDREN UNDER 12 MUST HAVE ADULT SUPERVISION.

I remember at CSR there was this little girl who wouldn't get out of my mom's space. My mother was sitting on the steps in the pool and this kid decided she had to kick and splash and basically swim over her legs-even though there was 10 feet of free space all around her-including more step space to slide along. Very annoying and the parents weren't anywhere to be seen. Some supervision

Take a chill pill!!!!!!

By reading this thead, I have picked up a couple of general catagories for those who have responded:

Those with no kids, who go to Disney and don't want to be bothered by kids (like, right)

Those who have kids who are perfect, and never, I mean never, cause any concern to anybody else.

Those who selfishly believe that their enjoyment of a hot tub is superior to that of others

Those who simply cannot believe that people would complain about kids, and their having a good time, while at Disney.

Our kids were 7 & 5 on our last trip to WDW, and they came in the hot tub with us a CSR a number of times. They know they have to sit still and relax, and when, after a few minutes they started to get restless, we all got out.

If the kids are well behaved, I don't see the problem with allowing them in hot tub. WDW obviously doesn't see a problem either, or they would change the rules so that kids are prohibited from the hot tubs.

I will probably get blasted for this but here goes. I believe each parent when given the information, has the right to make an informed choice as to whether the hot tubs are safe for young children. The parents that allow children to treat the jacuzzi like a pool, Are I am sure the same sort that, push the child in front of your child after they have waited ten minutes for an autograph. You know the type that pretend not to see> God forbid the child wait like everyone else. I am also a mean lady.. I am not opposed in any way to lovingly say, Sweetie, please do not do that. Or Dolly: excuse me My child was here first, you will have to wait a little bit more..... It is much easier to pretend you do not see what your child is doing. It is infinately harder to say hey, no way pal. I am a no way pal mom. I do not allow my children to do any of the above, But, I agree lots of people do. You will never convince these types of parents otherwise. ASK, them nicely, then get a cast member. As for people that are surprised that Disney is Amok with kids, Well yeh, it's Disney. If you feel the hot tubs are stictly for adult only enjoyment, Rent a villa, Sit in the jacuzzi and enjoy without kids. This is an unrelenting arguement, Lots of us have kids, we all love them to death, your's is no more special than mine, and we all should respect the rights of others.

Amen! I am still surprised everytime I read a post about "children" at wdw.

As far as WDW hot tubs are pretty much top notch. As I said before we have one so I know how much it takes to play "chemist" all the time. At AKL the have it automatically controlled as well as a "human" check. At Port Orlens I noticed that a CM was doing chem checks every hour and seemed to be adding accordingly not directly into the tubs but along side. There must be a seperate tank. If you see foam on a hot tub its either detergent or BACTERIA. Never go in one with foam. As far as the "respiratory" health hazards are greatly deminished in an outdoor hot tub. You can get them same laundry list of infections from air conditioning.

I didnt read the whole thread but I have to say I agree with no kids in the jacuzzi!

2 reasons, theyre little bodies cant take the heat
and most importantly last year a Senator from Idaho's Grandaughter was killed in a hot tub! It was an older one her long hair got caught in the return and she drowned :( It was so sad. :( If she had been older they said she probably would have had the strength to pull herself up.

This has been an interesting thread. I am not anti-kid by any stretch of the imagination. As several posters have so wisely pointed out, if a person hates kids, why on earth would they vacation at Disney?!?!?! Excellent point!

As one CM told me some time ago, (on a day when the park was disproportionally filled with evil children) "A visit to Disneyland is the best contraceptive in the world." One would have to agree that a non-stop display of spoiled, shreiking, selfish, loudmouthed brats and their self indulgent parents is enough to give anyone pause when it comes to having children.

BUT not all parents are rotten and lazy. Not all children are evil hellions greatly in need of a spanking. MOST of the children we have come in contact with at Disney have been GOOD kids, enjoyable or at least neutral to be around. They don't do cannon balls in the jacuzzi. They don't urinate all over the place. They don't scream and splash and jump all over you. The good kids are in the majority, but they are "invisible." You notice them, but don't notice them because they are well behaved.

That said, with the rotten little blighters, its tempting to see how long they can hold their breath. ;)
