Children in the jacuzzis

Well-behaved people have every right to be in the hot tubs, even if they are kids. My daughter (5) loves to come and soak with me in the hot tub, and I make her behave herself. If you don't like her there, it's really too bad for you. My family has as much right to be in there as yours. There are no signs saying under 12 aren't allowed. We've been in WL hot tubs many times, as well as BW and BCV.

There are plenty of times I've stayed out of the hot tub because I didn't want to share with whoever was in there (including when I saw couples who obviously wanted to be alone.) That's the price of being in a public place- you have to share and other people might not always fit your definition of who you want to share with.

I read the government warning about hot tubs, and none of those dangers apply more to kids. The warning about heat said that some hot tubs are kept too hot, not that some people can't handle proper hot tub temperatures. Certainly, my daughter doesn't stay in as long as an adult, but she's been in many times with no ill effects at all.

If you have a problem with rowdy people, you should talk to the lifeguards. Or don't go in. There's a nice big pool adults can swim in, too.

You can't go to Disney World and be child-free. If you're going to go there, you have to expect to deal with other people's children.

This whole jacuzzi thing started in my mind over an episode at the Neverland Pool at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim. We stayed in a suite and threw a nice party to celebrate our wedding anniversary. In the evening, DW and I went down to take a nice hot soak in the jacuzzi. What did we find?

- ill behaved children running amuck, (yes they were HELLIONS) running and jumping into the jacuzzi - cannon-ball style. Where was mom and dad? Sitting there ignoring the kids. Some of the other parents of hellions were saying "stop, go play in the pool" but were being totally ignored by the kids.

BUT, here is what sent me over the edge - someone has to get up every few minutes, press the timer button to continue the heating/bubbles cycle. I got up to do that and one of the hellion's parents said "oh, could you leave it off, the jacuzzi is too warm for my son and he doesn't like it that hot." I smiled and nodded and proceeded to press the button anyway. I complained to a pool CM about the water being too cold, and he said, they lowered the temp due to guest complaints.... God forbid the kids would be uncomfortable in the jacuzzi. They have free rein of all the other pools, how terrible that one tiny corner of the resort would be reserved for adults only.

Let me state for the record that I believe most people who enjoy the Disney experience are decent people, who follow the rules and enjoy being considerate to others. It's that commonly shared behavior that helps make a Disney vaction more enjoyable than any other. But clearly, not everyone feels that way.

"My family has as much right to be in there as yours. There are no signs saying under 12 aren't allowed." Sorry, but no they don't. Your family must follow the rules as everyone else. Paying the same money to stay at the resort does not give you or your family members a special license to be above the rules. Just because you didn't see the sign, or didn't read it doesn't mean the sign doesn't exist.

This is probably the main reason why I chose to be at BWV, one-bedroom villa this time. I really need the hot tub for my problem back. Walking in the parks all day is a real killer on my back. The one-bedroom has a jacuzzi right in the room.

In 4 different previous years, when I stayed at POR ( then Dixie Landings ) there was always small children swimming back and forth in the hot tub, and splashing. It was always annoying, and happened every time I was there. :(

I don't have a problem with OLDER kids sitting in a hot-tub if they are not splashing around. I have a problem with adults putting their young children in a hot-tub because they are dangerous for young kids. Just because it's smaller than a big pool doesn't make it a kiddie pool. It's the heat level being maintained at a constant level that is dangerous. We did a lot of research when we put in our pool and spa in and in the winter when DD goes in our spa, it's because we can set the exact temp. and then shut it off, so it's constantly cooling, like a bath, without the threat. When we put it up to actual spa temps (hot, as it should be) she is NOT allowed in, even for 5 minutes. Same thing with pregnant women, it's the constant temp, that is the treat.

But that's at our house, we don't go in spa's on vacation, but I can see if I were on vacation, I wouldn't want to be sitting in a Warm-tub, just so it would be safe enough for someone elses 5 year old, and I wouldn't expect the heat to be kept down because my daughter wanted to go in.

Boy, this will have to go to the debate board soon. It is almost as bad as refillable mugs or taking kids out of school for vacation.

I was at the WL in Dec. 2002 and did not see a sign saying "no one under 12 allowed." Had I seen it, I would not allowed my 5 yr. old in. I did see a sign that stated parental supervision. We soaked one cool evening for about 10-15 mins. and conversed with a gentleman who had his 2 young sons in with him. All were well-behaved. That is only my experience. Sorry for all who have had bad experiences. I have seen those children myself running around unsupervised, not just around the hot tubs, but also the main pool, the restuarants, etc. All kids can act up and my is certainly no angel, but with proper supervision alot of these complaints would disappear.

We might have to include this one in the "pool hopping" category.

I let my kids (11 and 7) into the hot tubs as well. However they have strict boundries, they may sit and enjoy, if it becomes full and an adult wants to use it they must exit (we usually all do) since the conversation tends to become more adult. If there is no one in there though I will take the kids in with me. No splashing or thrashing just sitting and no longer than 15 minutes--I don't want them to get overcooked!;)

I've read the sign. There's no such rule. My family doesn't have to follow what somebody else THINKS the rules should be.

Next time you're disturbed by kids in the hot tub, simple. Have the life guards throw them out. And their stupid parents too.

Anne

Geezzz Anne - that's a bit harsh LOL

This is Disney after all - and those stupid parents are guests paying good money - I doubt they would be thrown out.

I have spoken (other people's) kids many a time - simply saying "Hello there.. if you want to stay in here - sit down - or off to the big pool"

The kids are just excited - it's their holiday - once spoken to the first time - I haven't had a problem with a kid in the hot tub.. usually they leave -- probably because they think the "mean lady" has ruined their fun... lol

I hate to hear people come back and complain about problems at the pool or hot tub after the fact... do something while you are there - and enjoy your holiday.

>>^..^<<

"mean lady"

Cassie,

You are too funny. I always say that about myself when I have a "chat" with someone else's little one.

All of my kids (ages 3-12) are allowed in the hot tubs when we go on vacation as long as we are with them. They do not play around. They sit and relax like the adults. As to the temperature, heck they take baths that are about that hot!!

Well, I 'm glad I'm not in the same hot tubs with you. You seem to gravitate toward the restricted, hellion filled ones ;). Most hot tubs I've been to have the requisite warnings about children in hot tubs (for liabilities sake), but I have not seen many with prohibitions on kids (including at the VWL, BCV, and SAB). I'll check out the signs again when we are there in May. Everyone has a different experience I guess.

Don't worry! I do not use public hot tubs because of what is in them besides kids! LOL!:p My husband always tries to use them at the resorts and that is where I see these brats. Personally I go get a nice pina colada!

I am not here to debate what I've seen at the hot tubs. I do not even use them so I'm not going around policing them! I love WDW and would never want it child-free. I am one that thinks that WDW is pretty much more for kids then adults unlike some I've seen around the boards. I just feel that hot tubs are not one of the places that kids, angelic or not, should be. I was just repeating what I've read on 4 different occasions as to the rules of the hot tubs at WDW and other places.

Those who believe that their children are the well behaved ones may be correct, or it may be that they are so used to them that they are oblivious to annoying behavior towards others. I say this with the experience of 4 children. My 1st Disney "happy place" memory was in the hot tub at the Disney Vacation Club (now the OKW). It was late and I was exhausted from the day with 4 small kids in the park after a drive from Michigan. I sat back and watched the steam evaporate into the night sky and will remember the feeling forever! THis of course was in 1988 when kids DID NOT go into the hot tub. Everyone understood this and that was how it is. I think the parents who insist on kids being places that they really don't belong are somewhat afraid to say no to them. The whole rest of Disney was there for them. The hot tub was the place for the ADULTS (it's not a bad word!). Yes, we the adults deserve a small, tiny, hot pool for ourselves.

PS- all this talk of germs has "clouded" my happy place memory somewhat!! Ewww...

According to whom? If there was a Disney rule that said this, I would follow it. Just because some people think the hot tub should be reserved for them alone, doesn't mean the rest of us have to go along with it.

If I think adults without kids really don't belong on the Pooh ride, does that mean they should stay off?

Apparently I am a "bad parent", too. I allowed 4 yo DD in the hot tub with me at AKL in January. Incidentally, I ready the read the signs prior to taking her in because every hot tub is different. I never saw anything on the AKL sign about children under 12 not being allowed. If that was the case, I would not have let her in.

Incidentally, before I bring her into the hot tub I take a look at who is in them. If it is only adults I don't bring her in. However, I have no problem bringing her into an empty hot tub (yes, that does happen in January) or into one where there are families. After about 3-5 minutes of SITTING in the hot tub she has warmed up enough to go use the big pool again.

I am glad to be reading this thread, because it confirms the reasons I don't go near those hot tubs. When I was growing up, there was an unwritten rule against children in the hot tub.

I would never heat my daughter's tub bath as hot as a hot tub. That might be considered child abuse.

Children do not belong in the hot tub. Since this is now on the Community Board I can write that there are things that adult couples do in the hot tub that I find out of place, also. Lots of germs and "stuff" in the hot tub. People forget that we breathe in the mist from the tub. You and your children can have the full effect of the germs in the water sucked right into your lungs. Yuck. I will never go in there, nor will my children.

You can have the hot tub.

LOL!! I seriously doubt that!

They get in the tub following me and I like my tub quite hot. I hardly consider it child abuse

Somehow, my family has survived all those horrible germs and deadly temperatures for years now. I guess we're just lucky.
