Children Identification for WDW

I've seen several people talking about IDs for the kiddos.

I've heard about dog tags, a laminated card in a pocket, tying something onto a belt loop etc.

Does anyone have any pictures of your child's ID that you've used and you know works?

My concerns are that 1)my child won't leave it alone if it's a necklace or bracelet 2)it will get lost 3)she doesn't have belt loops so that is out 4)most of her pants don't have pockets either.

I've even contemplated making a hair thing that has ID on it, and putting it in her hair tye. Or hooking it to her strap of her flip flops, but that won't work, I tried it at walmart.

Thoughts? Pics? Suggestions? Strategies? :confused3 :rotfl:

this is what I have done in the past.

I go to our local hosptial and get hospital bands. We decorate the outside with markers and stickers to make it special, put felt or a soft material as backing and then fill out all the information and put it in the window of the bracelet. They are waterproof, durable, won't fall off and each night we simply cut them off and start with a new one the next day.

Ohhh I like the hospital band suggestion!

So my dd just gave me a great idea. She's sitting here with me, and put a hair tie on her ankle. Why hadn't I thought of that before? I could have a dog tag made, put it on a hair tie on her ankle, and that's it.

But maybe I'll do back with some other things too, just in case, lol.

Keep the suggestions coming please!

I print address labels with dh and my name on it with our cell phone number. Or, you can just put your cell number on it. I print enough of them out, plus extras and stick them on the back of each child's shirt every morning. I also keep spares on me in case they come unstuck, but that has never happened. It does work because my son got seperated from me for about 2 minutes and as I found him, he was with a security guard who was in the process of calling my cell. Last trip, dd11 wandered off from us to trade pins w/o me knowing. She had been the one I was NOT worried about losing and did not put a sticker on her. Anyway, she could not remember my number but knew we were staying on property and my name, so they looked it up at Guest Services and called me. After that, she got a sticker too whether she liked it or not.

Not vey high tech or fancy, but quite effective.

We are going to be in Disney in three weeks with four under 8. This is what I am nervous about. These are great suggestions!

Jaime, my last trip was w/o my hubby. Only lost 2 out of 7. :rotfl: Truly, because ds8 had his sticker on within 2 minutes, they were calling me. He was not even but maybe 10 feet from me. He had stopped to see something at a kiosk. I did a head count every couple of minutes just mentally to make sure all were together and so noticed it quickly. As soon as I noticed, I turned around and there he was with a guard already calling me. Just let your kids know that if they lose you, just find a person with the name tag or a security guard. Point out all the CMs everyone once in a while just to familiarize them with who they are.

And, like I said, even when the older one wandered, who was SUPPOSED to know better, they were able to look up my number because we were on property. What's funny is that she still doesn't know my cell number but all of the little ones know it by heart. She will be wearing a sticker til she is 30. :rotfl:

Don't worry, as long as they have your number on them, it will all be fine. And, no, they don't send all lost kids to It's a Smal World to be glued to the floor and sing for all eternity. (That's what ds16 told the little ones.)

I'm going in 3 weeks  and was wondering what I was going to do when I remembered I had a bunch of blank business card sheets leftover from another project. I copied a Mickey & Friends picture on one side (the side that will most likely face out) and on the other side I put my cell phone, DH's cell phone and DS13's cell phone number and our resort name. I'm going to use clear contact paper to "laminate" them as I don't have a machine and will put them on the lanyards I bought for them at Five Below. I'll take a picture of them and post it tomorrow. A great use of what I already had on hand so it's budget friendly, too.:woohoo:

PS. just a week ago I lost DS8 in Sears. DH went downstairs with DD10 & DS6, I went to the bathroom and DS8 said he wanted to stay with me so I told him to stay put and I would be right out. He's very mature for his age and knows not to go with anyone. I came out and he wasn't there so I thought maybe he went with DH instead or went to the bathroom himself so I waited a few minutes. When he didn't show I went to find DH and he wasn't with them. Went back upstairs and lo and behold he was by the bathrooms waiting for me. Minutes seem like hours when your seperated but he remembered to stay put and wait where he last saw me. It definately helps to reinforce the rules over and over again. They will listen and learn.:teacher:

I also did the info on the back of the shirt. Nothing fancy here, just some bright painter's tape and a sharpie with "If lost please call my mom or dad at xxx-xxx-xxxx or xxx-xxx-xxxx". Maybe next time I will use labels like the rest of you and look a little bit nicer, but the painter's tape stuck really well, yet was easy enough to get off at the end of the night. Only real problem I had was sneaking it onto the kids backs in the morning b/c they didn't want it on and kept messing with it when they knew it was there (they were 1 and 3 at the time). A good pat on the back did the trick.

I plan to use the iron on transfers and will iron them on the inside of her shirt, iron it on upside down at the very bottom so that she lifts just a tiny bit of her shirt and it is able to be seen. I already have the transfers so no cost, but I do also like the hosp braclet idea

My DD is only 2 so I am afaid of her wondering off too! I bought temporary tattoos from Michael's craft store. I paid $10 for 3 sheets which will be plenty! I was going to order the Safety Tats but they were even more expensive. :)

I ordered the safety tats. I also told my girls if they should get lost to find a mommy pushing a stroller to help them.I will also be showing them the Cast members so they can also ask them too.My 4 yer old is a handful and I never take my eye off of her(Myhusband likes to walk right behind her.)My 6 year old is a nervous nelly and always walks right next to me. But it only takes a split second for one to get lost.(i'm also bring my stroller so I can keep them close when in large crowds(and so when they get tried I don't ahve to listen to whining)

Safety Tats! They're awesome, they rock, they really work and did I say they're awesome? We use them at the beach (we live at the Jersey shore) and now I just carry them in my purse "just in case" we go someplace like the zoo on a whim I can tatoo them (all you need is water).

Keep in mind a lot of places have policies against looking inside children's clothing (I learned this at a zoo and apparently it's not uncommon) so whatever you use has to be outwardly visible to a security guard.

I was concerned about this too. I decided to order custom silicone bracelets with our cell phone numbers on them. I plan on putting them on my kids (6 and 4 yo) ankles. I think it was about $28 for ten on them. I ordered two different colors so the kids could decide which they wanted to wear.

I can't post the link since I haven't posted enough yet but it is the name of the company, custom silicone bracelets, all together with dot com at the end.

Being the worrier that I am, I have ordered the safetytats as well as the little rubber engraved bracelets from shanrenee.com. Both should be here within the next few days. My plan is to put a bracelet on both Ds4's and DS1's ankles and also to put the safetytats on the inside of their upper arms (the inside so that my cell phone number isn't hanging out in the open for all to see, but on the inside of the arm it will still be visible to a CM).

I might also check in some engraved dog tags. Even though DS1 will spend most of his time in the stroller, what one boy has the other has to have... lol.

I don't think I have any pictures. I got them lanyards from the dollar store (dd's was princesses, ds plain). Then I did up a name tag on the computer. On the front I put just their first name and a picture of their favourite character. On the back I put our names, cell #, emergency contact and name of hotel. I laminated them with a luggage tage laminating kit I got at the dollar store. The laminating was essential to keep them dry on wet rides. Because they liked the lanyards and the character pics, they wore them.

Someone suggested the silicone bracelets and then use a permenent marker with phone # on the inside.

When my kids were younger, I ordered a nameplate type thing for their shoes - It was kind of like a dog tag but had holes in it so you can lace it to the top of the gym shoe - It was engraved with whatever info we wanted to put on it - It worked great because it wasn't something that could fall off or get lost - I wish i could remember the name of the company but i found it online -

My kids are old enough now to know our cell phone numbers (not to mention my daughter has her own cell phone now  )and what to do if we get separated but this thread made me think of how fast the time goes by - It seemed like just yesterday they were little ones - :sad2:

I plan on using the temporary tattoos. There are several websites out there that you can order them from with your phone number on it. Also, you can print your own.

I like these b/c my 3 year old would take anything else off and he loves wearing temporary tattoos on the inside of his forearm so he can look like Daddy :lmao:

Seems like ankle works fine for those that are concerned about kids removing them.

I ordered from http://www.shanrene.com/custom-wristbands.php.

Good price, reasonable shipping, Big photo on website.
