do the kids on the dining plan get a mug as well? If this is the case, I'm going to have to buy one for my son (2) as he is going to see his mom, dad, aunt, uncle and cousin (whom he ADORES) with mugs in the morning. He is certainly going to want one. If the 5 year old doesn't get one, it will be easier to tell him NO.

Yes, everyone (including children) on the DxDP and QSDP gets a mug. As of next year, everyone on the DxDP, DDP and QSDP will get them.

Kids under 3 can't be on a dining plan. They either eat off your plate, eat free at buffets or their meals are OOP. The OP's child is 2 but the cousin is 5 and as such will get a mug.

Yes, the 5 yo gets the mug. Which is a bit silly, IMHO, as there really aren't child-friendly beverages available with the mug -- no milk or real juice. Just soda, and the artificial juices.
Last trip, while my kids technically got mugs, we simply packed them away as souvenirs. We didn't let the kids use the mugs.

Yep, that's what I was saying -- guess I'll be buying one for him -- oh well, spending $4K what's another $15 right?

While we are on the subject ... how do you keep your mugs separate - what do you do so you know who's is who's? I am thinking of using the label maker I use for his daycare sippy cups -- just printing out a bunch of labels and bringing them to put on when we get them. What do you think? OR putting various stickers on there -- Mickey for son, Pooh for me etc.

Could you put a wine glass identifier on the mug handle? They come in sets and are easily removable.

There are only three of us, and there are usually at least three different color handle, so that us how we settle that. If not, I am rarely without a Sharpie(shameful addiction, I know) and just pop our initials on them.

Could you switch the lids so they don't match the handles for the duplicate colors you end up with? Like for us, we'll end up with solid turquoise, pink and yellow cups for the kids and then we'll have a pink and turquoise cups that we switch up for DH and I.

If that wouldn't work, I'd use a Sharpie and just write your names on the bottom of each cup.

The Disney mug police do not force you to redeem all those free mug credits. If the mug for the 5 year old doesn't make sense and it would be easier for the 2 year old to accept the fact that a mug is for grown up drinks then just redeem your mug credits for one less mug than you're entitled to.

Redeem that last mug credit on your last day so the 5 year old can have a Disney mug souvenier for home. Check with the cashier or guest services that you can split your mug "purchase" this way, that there will be one mug credit left for redemption later.

I would either plan on buying one for the 2 y/o or redeeming the credit at the end of your trip for the 5 y/o. I would not let it go to waste, if for no other reason than to extend the magic once you are home. we use our refillable mugs a lot at home. Soft drinks for me in the morning. juice, milk or water for ds. Just an FYI... Milk in the morning+heat+ Disney excitement= big mess! I speak from experience. DS (now 8, annual trips since 4) gets light lemonade from the fountain if we have breakfast in the resort QS. Not something he normally gets at home, but it is vacation!

I NEVER thought of that!!! Again, this is why I love this board! That's what we will do -- OR when we check in, we can just take the 5 year olds and put it away until we leave DUH!! Your right, it's not like the 5 year old needs to drink out of it -- he won't care either way.

Why is the most obvious answer the one I usually forget?

You can definitely get your mugs at different times. The mug credits are just like the snack and meal credits - just use them before midnight on check-out day.
