January 2007, we are planning a trip to WDW with my brother and his family. My nephew is 5yo and has CP. When he gets excited or something makes him happy he lets out a yell. His behavior does not bother us, but will it bother others in an attraction such as a 3D movie? Please any input would be appreciated.

Thanks so much

If it does bother anyone, there won't be much you can do about it anyway, so try not to worry about it too much.
For the attractions like the 3D movies and the rides aimed at children, you will hear a lot of noise anyway. Little kids who are in those attractions tend to make noise when they like them, so in those kinds of attractions people are more likely to think it's 'cute' to hear a child who is really enjoying hmself.
The only places I can think of where his noises might be seen as more of a distraction to people would be the things that are quiet and more 'adult' (things like the Hall of Presidents).
If he is using a wheelchair, you will be seated in the back for many shows. Many of the rides have small enough ride cars that your party might be riding alone, so people who would hear him most would be the people in your party right around him..
My youngest DD has CP (cerebral palsy) also and she tends to make squealing noises (which can be quite LOUD) when she really likes something. Over the years, people have tended to act more positively to her noises. People do tend to react more positively to 'happy' sounding noises than to unhappy sounding ones.

I'm sure you will get other responses that will help to reasure you.

I hope this doesn't come across as shallow, I really don't mean it to be. But if your son is in a wheelchair (in other words, it's obvious he has a disability of some kind), anyone with half a heart won't mind him sqealing for joy. :)

Let me just reassure you...... you won't even give this a second thought when you're at WDW. People are screaming in delight constantly! Your nephew will fit right in!

In all honesty, your brother and his family are probably already used to all the "looks" your nephew gets in public. It's unfortunate, put curiosity is human nature and people tend to be very curious about our special needs kids.... especially a child in a wheelchair. My DS7 also has cp and uses a wheelchair.

There are things much more bothersome than a child squealing in delight.... like the parent who drags their crying and scared kid onto the Tower of Terror.... or the person who constantly kicks the back of your seat at Mickey's Philharmagic.

Please do not worry about this. There are plenty of kids at WDW (SN and not) who make lots of noises everywhere. Now there may be crabby people out there who will try to make you feel badly but don't let them.

I've seen plenty of normally developing kids having tantrums, freaking out on rides, needing to leave shows early, misbehaving in restaurants, etc. It's par for the course.

Thank you so much, all of your kind words were the reassurance I was hoping for.

I totally agree! Happy noises won't bother me. :goodvibes

Our son has CP, too, and while many of his noises at the parks are happy, there have been times when he has screamed in frustration or fear (some attractions are really LOUD!) We try to sit near the exits and remove him for his sake and others if he is overwhelmed (ie-- I will NEVER drag him to "It's Tough to be a Bug" again). Cast members are very willing to help if you are trying to exit a show or other stationary attraction.
As for the screaming in delight-- we all have been known to do that at WDW :woohoo:
