Child Swap Question

Neither the guardian nor the child need a fastpass. ALthough, if you do it right, you can go on it twice per adult. Get a fastpass, and use the swap ;)

If someone is doing a child swap with a 7 year old, does the child need a fastpass?

Thanks!

Just a note:
It may or may not be possible to do the Rider Swap if the child is tall enough to ride the attraction. (You didn't say.)
If so, it would then will be up to the CM at the time you arrive as to whether the Swap pass would be issued.

Hopefully they don't do it by age. Just the fact that the child would be left alone if both adults wanted to ride and the child didn't for whatever reason, should be enough reason to be able to use the swap pass. Hope that made sense, 'cause it did in my head! lol

Has nothing to do with age, if the child doesn't meet the height restriction then the family qualifies for a RS Pass.
Otherwise there is still no need to leave a child alone - parents can take turns riding with a FP+ or via the standby line if they wish.

per Disney's web site...even if a guest is tall enough and just doesn't want to ride, you can do rider swap

Sadly, that is just another in the list of bad info coming from a website infamous for being poorly edited.

I saw explanations of how one parent could get a different fastpass to truly take advantage of riderswap but I'm assuming that only really works of there is a second child pulling fast passes who is too short. We have a 9 DD and a 2 DS so he would pull passes. In this situation we would all need to go ahead and get the same fast passes since my daughter and husband would both need them to get the rider swap pass in the first place correct?

Why is it you assume it's bad info? Do you have official Disney policy that says differently?

I take what is posted on Disney's website as gospel over what an individual CM thinks. I'll take it up to a supervisor if told my 7 year old, who is over 4 feet tall and terrified of fast rides, is tall enough so we can't swap. Copy of Disney webpage in hand, of course.

Maybe we should back up a bit...

Who would be using the Rider Swap?
And, for whom would the Swap pass be issued?

If you are asking if, say, two parents (or other adults) want to ride and the 7 yo does not want to ride,
no "Swap pass" would be needed.
The adults can ride using their FP (or the standby line,) and the 7 yo can wait in the exit area.

OR-
ONE parent/adult can ride with FP, and the other adult can stay with the 7 yo.
Then, the OTHER adult can use his/her FP and ride.
No "Swap pass" would be needed.

My 7 year old daughter isn't waiting alone for us. Other parents may feel differently.

I completely understand, but I there have been numerous reports of people doing exactly what you have said, only to be denied the kid swap pass.

It is definitely a bit of a crap shoot when it comes to getting a pass for a kid who is tall enough, but simply does not want to ride.

I am one who would take it to guest services while DW and DD moved on through our touring plan. My issue isn't that it should or shouldn't be allowed, it's that the policy should be clearly stated (it is on the website) and the decisions of CMs align with that policy. I bet I walk out of guest services with an anytime fastpass, but more importantly, if everyone does this when arbitrary enforcement affects them, I'd bet the CMs would get educated.

I feel like I'm missing something here. Waiting alone is one option, and I can appreciate that it's not something you consider feasible. The other option is:

ONE parent/adult can ride with FP, and the other adult can stay with the 7 yo.
Then, the OTHER adult can use his/her FP and ride.
No "Swap pass" would be needed.

This I agree with, and if that's what he meant, I misinterpreted. For the rides that scare her and we have FP+, we'll swap out use of the FP+ while the other waits with her, that's already in my plan. I thought the suggestion was that both go at the same time while the child waits.

I think it would be abusive of the system to take a RS to effectively double your FP+ rides.

Well the website has tons of errors and that is just one of them so your going to be spending lots of time at guest relations....

Having just used RS pass in November and December and actually gone to GR to "clarify" the actual practice of RS pass I can tell you that they will not issue a RS pass to a family if the child is tall enough to ride but chooses not to. They will also not issue one via single rider lines - if you have been issued a RS pass via the single rider line or for a child who meets the restriction consider that a gift or what folks here like to call "pixie dust". If you prepare yourself for this scenario and then get some pixie dust you will be better off (imho) than planning for something that just doesn't happen very often.

Case in point was when we were denied at TOT when my 4yo nephew was tall enough but terrified. He met the height requirement so we were not offered a RS pass but were offered to switch at the exit. Unfortunately he didn't even want to wait through the queue so we took turns via the standby line. Believe me no amount of asking for supervisors or going to GR would have helped as it was a choice for him not to ride not a "Disney imposed restriction".

As for a 7 year old waiting alone - not sure why that has come up as an issue as nobody here has suggested that (from what I have read!). Parents can simply take turns riding and doing something else with the 7yo like in the "old days" before FP and RS passes :)
