Hmm.. had trouble naming this thread.

My 3yo is potty trained but loves to play with her poop!! :earseek: I have no idea why. She takes it out of the potty and smears it over the entire bathroom. Has been known to take it into family room and put it in drawers  Actually found some once in the kitchen. She says they are hamsters.

I'm not sure what to do. Dh has been making her clean it up herself. I'm not sure if this is the right thing to do. She doesn't seem to mind cleaning, though.

He used to do this with oldest dd when she was 4 andused to go in her underpants. Oldest dd hated it (was the kind who hated even getting her hands dirty) and really bothered her to touch it. Now she has had trouble with constipation for the last few years. (side note I was gone for a year during this time )

What is your opinion?

into the big toilet and flush it for you.....she would be a big girl for getting rid of it........I remember my nephew taking it out of his diaper and putting it in a childs toy tea pot and then taking it for a ride on his rocking horse.......rockey bye poopy...the song was cute even if that stunk

Perhaps find an acceptable alternative for your DD as a "reward" for not playing with the poo. It could be she likes the texture and it's not specific to the "material". My DD is almost 3 and I recently discovered she really likes Play Doh. It wasn't something I'd considered buying before but, after reading a tip on the Family Board, I bought a small set for the plane ride to and from Orlando. She was content just rolling it again and again for much of each flight. It was messy but definitely not what you've had to deal with.

She actually uses the big toliet. She always hated using the baby chair.

Never thought of the play dooh. Good idea. She has a strong imagination.

DD used to do this when she was 2 or 3, too. Having her clean it up was no help. She loved all forms of housework at that age. (Now I can't get her to do anything w/o nagging! ) As I remember it, nothing really worked. She'd stop for a while & then do it again behind the toilet or somewhere she thought we wouldn't notice. She did eventually stop completely - at like 5 or 6.

I was an "evil Mom" - I even smacked her hand or butt....as I said, nothing really seemed to work to MAKE her stop.

My DD was potty trained on the wet side but it took longer for her to stop "holding it" to do the poop in her pull-up. It even got to the point where she'd go get a pull-up herself to put on so she could poop. What I found worked was to get her a special Dora the Explorer seat that fit our regular toilet. She was thrilled to have that to use and we only had a couple of accidents before she was completely out of diapers/pull-ups - except at naps and night. Unfortunately, she sleeps so soundly that I think it will be awhile before she's dry all night... however I'm not going to rush her.

BTW - DD wouldn't use the potty chair we got. I think she saw the older kids use the regular toilet at her day care and saw no reason why she couldn't too. She didn't even have the "adapter" seat for the initial potty training - it was more me trying to find something that would helpd her get past the next hurdle.
