Child identification for Disney (inexpensive)

I love the rubber laser-engraved band idea! I will be ordering these for my DS 7 for our trip in 2 1/2 weeks! Yea!!!

I also plan on doing the dog tag thing and putting them on their shoes. Now I just need to teach them to point to their shoes if they get lost!

I have to comment on the sharpie idea! I think that's hilarious! I can just see the parents searching the hotel room for something to write their info on and then just giving up and saying "here, give me your arm!" Too funny, and a good idea!:rotfl:

We were just at WDW in April (only for one day!) :sad2: and we saw "dog tag" machines there, so Disney has obviously caught on that people are doing "dog tags" for their kids for ID's. So, I think that's what we're doing next time we go....that way it will make for a cute souvenir, too! :thumbsup2

I DO like the idea of the rubber bracelets, too!

I ordered these for our upcoming trip:

This is what I'm getting for my kids for our trip too. I was able to measure one we got as a party favor and it's the same as their child size band. It fits my DS's ankle perfect and should stay on DD's ankle as long as she has shoes on.

I was thinking about putting our last name then If Lost call (my cell #). I thought having our last name is assurance that we are their parents picking them up. Any other thoughts on that?

TIA!

Yes, me too we saw them at DTD. I did the "shoe charm" (ie dog tag) with my dd's when they were little and my sil does it with my neice and nephew. More fun now that you can get disney designs even at wallmart.

I ordered dog tags in the shape of skull and cross bones for my 3 boys with their name, my cell number, and my mom's cell number on them.... for my 2 girls, I ordered crown cat tags and had the same info put on them. Gonna tie them to their shoes.

I have also done the laminated card trick. We pinned it at the bottom of the shirt in the lower rear area, pinned under the clothes but sticking out. We also told the kids it was there so they could find a CM and give it to them if needed.

Another thing I was told... take a digital picture of your kids every morning after they are dressed. That way you can show the picture without having to remember every detail of what they are wearing.

That's a great tip for any vacation. I am definately going to have to remember that one. Thanks !

I also like the idea of the dog tags. I don't know about putting them on the shoes. My dS10 has his own cell phone so not too worried about him, but DS2 will be 3 then and still in a stroller, so may have sandals on and I don't know that we would be able to attach. But we could make it fun for her and get the disney character and make a necklace out of it.

Thanks for all the great ideas and links.

I am doing the dog tag thing for my 3yo nephew this trip. It will be attached to his new pin-trading lanyard on the clippy part at the bottom. When we give it to him, it will be accompanied by a note from Peter Pan telling him he needs to wear it so he doesn't become a "Lost Boy". The tag just says..."I'm __his name__. My mom's name is ___her name__. Her cell phone number is __her number__."

We print a page of stickers. They say:

If lost, please call
Dad: xxx-xxx-xxxx
Mom: xxx-xxx-xxxx

I attach one to my daughter's shirt.
I put it on her shoulder area on the back.
We got a lot of compliments on our Jan. trip to Disneyland.

One for each day, extra in my bag (in case it gets wet - it never has),
one to stay in my bag in case I lose it,
and one in hubby's camera bag.

At home I use them in our beach bag, snack bag, swim bag, etc.

My daughter knows to find a mom if she ever gets lost,
but I would feel bad if I stole some magic time from another family. So... I told her all the CM's have honorary mom status. pixiedust:

I heard the same thing. We plan on taking a picture of each child before we leave the room each morning.

We went in May with a 2-year old and printed labels that had our names and cell phone numbers on them (we used florescent lime green shipping labels). Stuck the sticker to his back so he never really noticed and didn't try to peel it off. Carried extras in case we got wet and needed to replace.

The stickers said:

My name is XXX.
My parents are Mark and Beth.
If I am not with them, please call (phone nos)
We are staying at the Wilderness Lodge.

Some people say not to put the child's name on it since a bad person could use that to make the child feel comfortable with him, but we were dealing with a 2-year-old so I didn't think that was an issue for us.

The key is to get your cell phone numbers on the kids in a place where a cast member will see it, or if the child is old enough, in a place where they will remember to show the cast member.

Also, sticking the sticker on his back meant there wasn't something weird on his clothes or arm in every picture.
That's a good idea but I'm not sure I want our kid's names on them for everyone to see.

I went on ebay, and got dogtags made for all of the kids, with our resort, and our cellphone numbers - they wore them around their necks along with their lanyards.
Might have to try that.

Neat! Having it in a Disney theme would be a neat keepsake.

The rubber bracelets are also a neat idea.

I guess I need to discuss with DH what we want to do. We need to be deciding pretty quickly so we have them before we leave.

Whatever you choose, I've been told that Disney CMs aren't supposed to look inside shirts, etc. for IDs. So while a shoe-tag would work, a necklace probably wouldn't. A 2yo might be too freaked to remember to pull out something.

For DD (who started going to WDW at 3.5 and is now 6) we wrote dad's cell number on the inside of her sandals with a sharpie. She thought it was goofy enough that she should have remembered to take off her shoe and show it to a CM. Her marching orders used to be to find a mom if she got lost. Now they're to stand still and holler for help (the hug-a-tree concept).

I've always promised myself that if I get into an evacuation situation (we live in S Florida, so someday it may happen) I'm going to write on her belly with a sharpie the phone numbers / people that should be contacted. It's on my emergency plan!

Thanks for the good advice. I decided to order the bracelets from

http://www.shanrene.com/custom-wristbands.php

The front says "If lost please call my mom ***-***-****" and the back says "Or my dad ***-***-****"

I am hoping
1) we get them before we leave
2) it fits my 1 year old DS ankle.

2 bracelets with standard shipping cost a little under $8 not bad at all :)

Safety tats ROCK! And we use them at the beach, the park, whenever we go to public places and run the risk of getting seperated. I keep them in my purse and all you need to apply them is water. With 3 boys under the age of 5, I'll take all the little bits of help I can get.

We also have the little bears that clip onto their shoes which beep fairly loudly if you press a button on your parent keyring. Good for if you just lost sight of them - follow the beep! (You can use two together without them being confused - we have 2 - one for each of our older boys)

I'll remember that. Thanks for the information.

I used shanrene last year and I think you'll get them.

We did loose my youngest for about 30 seconds last year. When I found her she was on the ground crying and 2 cm's were already standing over her. She was too shy to show tell them about her wrist band. I did tell her after that that she didn't have to talk to them just show them the band. But she was MUCH better about pulling away from us after getting lost so she hasn't gotten lost since.

I got lanyards from the dollar store that have id holders that you can't open without taking it completely off the lanyard. I'm just going to put 'If lost please call my parents @ #'. My 7 and 5 year old would be able to memorize my cell phone number but I wouldn't want to trust that if they were shook up about being lost they could think straight. Our younger son is a late talker so he is my biggest concern. The older 2 can point to the lanyard and say - please call my mom and dad but he wouldn't even know to do that. Would this seem like a logical spot to look on him?

Great ideas!!! We're leaving for Disneyland on Tuesday and I've had some of these same concerns. I'm really glad to read everyone's ideas here in this regard.

Thanks for sharing!

My guess is they will fit your 1 y.o.'s ankle. I did try it on DD (13 mo) and it was fine with a shoe on (just a soft leather mary jane, no sole or anything). It slipped right off once I took her shoe off though. So, it won't work at the pool, but the pool isn't as crowded as the Magic Kingdom!
