Child ID tags and safety

the tag thru the shoe laces is a great idea, but my dd wears sandals in Disney most days. I am not sure she'd go for a metal tag dangling from her sandal.

Also, while this won't help your child find you, my dd's kindergarten class just had these id cards made and I figure it couldn't hurt to have these on us at Disney. http://www.identakid.com/

Not my original idea, but an idea I learned here. Take a picture of your children with a digital camera every morning or every time they change clothes. That way you will have their most current picture with what they are wearing that day. In a panic, I'm not sure any of us would remember what they are wearing.

that is a very useful tip!!! our kids are long grown up, digital cameras
were not even around..now when DS23 was 5 I took him for the 1st
time as a single mom to DL, also worried about losing him (they move
SO fast, as the crowds can separate you very easily!) back then, I
purchased a "child leash" of a sort, one velcro strap attached to him,
actually I attached it to his belt loop, and one to me, with a bright
yellow twisty cord like a phone cord. I don't know if they still have
these available, but it worked well for us

I purchased these the last time we went to Disney. ( I got them from a different site - but can't remember which one - but this one is very similar). It is a velcro bracelet with a hidden pocket which you can put all the information you want like address/phone etc. The website is:

I give my 5 year old laminated business card. She puts it in her back pocket, around her neck or in her purse. All it has on it is "mommy ###-###-####, daddy ###-###-####" No Names. As soon as we go to any park, I show her who(CM) to go to if she gets lost. Names are bad on anything. It could be used to lure them away. Think about it, what better place to find kids?

I heard an idea a while ago about a teacher who made necklaces, and ankle bracelets for her students to wear when they went on field trips . She used the little plastic beads that had numbers on them and she made up the jewelry to have her cell phone number on them. I thought that was kind of a clever idea (as long as your children are older, and are used to wearing jewelry).

When I was in WDW in Oct. Our friends child had one of these and I thought it was such a neat idea.

I agree about the "find a mommy". For Disney, we refined it to "find a mommy with a stroller", since strollers are at kid height and hopefully, easy to spot. I don't have confidence that my almost 4-year old can identify "workers". Her pool rules, for example, have morphed from "don't go into the pool by yourself" to "don't go into the pool by yourself if there's a shark"! I hate to see what she'd do with "find a person wearing an oval white nametag, but not a red one", etc. She has a creative imagination, to say the least.

Also, I made what I think of as panic cards, to use in addition to a daily digital pic. There are 6 adults and 2 kids in our group. I wanted to be sure that each adult had a fast way to give pertinent details about a missing child. I know that *I* would totally freak and become incoherent. So each adult in our group has a driver's license size, double-sided card, with name, picture, height, weight, birthdate, description of both our kids. The theory here is that we could at least whip out the card and hand it to a CM or at least someone calmer, if unable to speak intelligibly due to panic.

They do sell the disney "ID Tags" at Downtown Disney at Disney Tails. Which is a GREAT store! They have a machine right there where you can make them up with what you want engraved.

They do make little alarms that you can put on your child and you keep part of it, and if they wander off so far, it notifies you. I just can not remember where I saw them!! Can anyone help with this? I thought I had originally read about them on this board about a year ago

It's true. I have heard that you should never, even though they are cute,
buy your kids "personalized" backpacks, book bags, lunch boxes, etc. A would be
predator would have the child's name to gain trust. Unfortunately, in this
day and age, you have to be soooo careful. It is a sad reality, but a
necessary one.

I just purchased the velcro wristbands, though I think they were from a different site than the one mentioned above! I think putting the hotel we are staying at and our cell phone # on them will be great! Being laminated and waterproof is a plus also. My kids are young enough they probably will think the are cool!
