I am the official planner for our May trip that will include my childhood best friend and her 7 year old son. None of us have ever flown with children. We are flying Jet Blue out of Providence.

Will the 7 year old be required to have an ID with him of some sort? (birth certificate, etc.) I couldn't find anything on Jet Blue's website.

Nope, nothing needed. My dd, now 19, used to love handing her school ID over though. From the age of 8 or so on, she would proudly take it out of her bag, and hand it to the airline rep at the counter. Kind of cute!!!

Here's hoping for nice weather in May!!!!!

ok great!!! i'll let her know!!!

im hoping for good weather too!! this will be my 4th may trip. 2 had great (hot/dry) weather. but we were there almost the same week in 2009 and it poured HARD non stop for 6 days. im terrified of that happening again!

Kids under 18 only need proof-of-age ID for domestic flights if they are traveling on some kind of age-restricted fare or as a lap-child. In those cases it is the airlines that require it, as verification that the person is eligible for the special fare. (BTW, older folks traveling on special senior-only fares also must carry legal ID that will verify age, if the airline has not already made a record of verifying it.)

TSA does not require ID for anyone under 18.

Of course, international travel is a different kettle of fish. EVERY passenger needs individual appropriate valid ID to get through Customs & Border Control.
