I know children are considered adults at 9 when purchasing tickets for the parks but what is the cut off age for a child meal at restaurants? I thought I read somewhere it was 11. :confused3 I booked ADR's at CRT for dinner and they could not put it through with the child price for my DD who is 10. I booked her at the adult price and was advised to check to see if it can be adjusted upon our arrival.

Effective July 1, 2005 the age for a child for dining purposes changed to 3-9.

Just my 2 cents, but I feel Disney needs to relook at this. I think that they should make the children's age (for the Dining Plan) 3-12 or so. The kids meals were enough food for them and they ate all they needed at all of the buffets we went too. Once they get to age 13 an adult meal would probably be more appropriate. Just my thoughts!!

I would agree 100%, just coming back with a 10yo and 13yo. We threw away so much food it wasn't funny. :guilty:

This was a really hot topic last summer when they changed it. I am in the category of picky eaters too. It was rough being charged adult prices at character meals and buffets. She was able to order off the children's menus when they were available. At Chef Mickey's she got a plate of food and nibbled at it - $18.99 later............ We have seriously considered not doing any buffets or character meals until we see an increase in appetite.

Many people posted they were going to write to Disney - it wouldn't hurt to do so.

I agree....and they are really pricing larger families out of the character buffets now.....(oh my poor pocketbook!)

My dd was 11 when we went to WDW in June and ate as a child. Then, when we returned in August, she ate as an adult. Had her eating habits changed? No, still eating mac and cheese, chicken nuggets, little pizza. So, we decided to cut back on the character meals we do. It's just not worth it to have to pay adult prices for her to have mac and cheese. Thank heaven she is getting older and doesn't care quite as much about the characters. But she still insists on having CM's as our traditional first meal in WDW!!! And of course we have to do CP to see Tigger. I too wish they would come up with a true junior price that fall inbetween the adult and child's pricing. I wouldn't mind nearly as much.

This is making me a little crazy, too. DD turns 10 in May, and while I don't mind the jump in ticket prices too much, the increase in the dining plan makes me a little nuts. In fact, with my budgeting, it puts me over what I would spend without it (which may be fine, too, because of the improvement in the types of meals we get).

She gets child dinners 90% of the time when we got out to eat at home. My 12-year-old even orders off the children's menu at least half the time. I can't go before her birthday in May.

What makes me even more frustrated is my last trip was when DS turned 10--and because I'm a dope, I booked it for AFTER his birthday instead of BEFORE.

Thanks for the answers. I didn't know about the change. Not happy about it but all our plan's are already made.
