Child Alternatives at Ohana

We have an ADR for Ohana in October. I know DH, Dsis and I will love the food and the kids will enjoy the entertainment. However, I doubt my kids will eat the set Ohana menu.

What other options are available? I know the menus say they exist but they are not listed. If you have experienced this, I would like to hear about it. What type of food options existed and were the CM's accomodating?

The last time we went DS only had the choice of chicken strips and mac n cheese. That was almost a year ago so things could have changed since then.

When we went this past Dec., they gave my girls the choice of grilled cheese (DD7 had 2 of them), mac & cheese, chicken strips...I think there were other choices as well. They were very accommodating.

Our server brought us over plain pasta with marinara sauce on the side for our two kids. ( I assume they got from Kona) They were wonderful!

My kids had chicken fingers. They were also told they could still eat what we had too. They loved the shrimp.

You might be surprised what your kids like at this meal!!! My 4 year old loved the wonton chips and the shrimp and then loved some of the meats that were brought out later!!!

My DD had chicken strips, and one DS had grilled cheese. Both came with fries.

DS had uncrustables and a huge plate of french fries. The server brought it out without even asking when he noticed the little guy wasnt eating much. I have read that they can order off the Kona menu. Now he did eat the entire dessert bowl with bananas and icecream. We had to order seconds.

We ate at O'hanna last December-paid the full child's price for picky eater DS 5 who only drank a chocolate milk...didn't eat one bite of anything-wait, he did eat the vanilla ice cream that came with the bread pudding dessert! I think it was like $18 for his meal-and this was OOP not DDP! We 1)didn't realize/wasn't given a children's menu where he could order mac n' cheese b/c we would have-our server was TERRIBLE...whole different story...2)didn't think to ask if he could have something different.

I know better now!

We had dinner there last month and our server offered the alternatives for the kids before we even had a chance to ask. I know she offered chicken strips or mac-n-cheese, but I believe she also offered a cheeseburger.

She also told us DD was free to eat what we were having in addition to the chicken strip meal we ordered for her. Further, our server brought plain vanilla ice cream to the kids for dessert (we didn't ask).

Her name was Eleana (I'm sure I don't have that spelled correctly) and when I complimented her on how well she did, especially with the children, she told me she was a school teacher. I plan on asking for her again when we go in November.

Ummm...my son doesn't-why? Because he is a PICKY EATER! I dont' know why he dosen't like the food at O'hanna-I do-but then again-I'm NOT a picky eater!

If you can not understand how the food at O'hanna would "fail to satisfy a so called picky eater" than you probably haven't had the pleasure of dealing with a child who is a "picky eater!"

The seasonings on the meats at O'hanna are a bit spicier than what he is used to-so it isn't anything that my son would eat. Salad, nope-he won't eat that...I don't remember there being rice....he would probably eat that-but not if there was anything in it(almonds/peppers etc). He wouldn't eat the scalloped potatoes or shrimp. Won Ton chips-not his thing. He isn't into chicken wings. He wouldn't eat the bread pudding-just the vanilla ice cream.

Hence-the term "picky eater"

Yup, he ate a lot of mac n' cheese that week. He did eat steak at Le Cellier-and loved it. I am not a picky eater at all-and it frustrates me that he is so stubborn about even TRYING something new! I expose him to other foods over and over-every now and then a new one will "stick" but not usually.

First of all, rice has not been on the menu there for quite a while. And second, I agree with IMDORY. Please do not question the logic of a picky eater. My DS does not like the texture of any kind of meat--not at all--and cannot force himself to swallow it. I refuse to get into a food battle at a restaurant, so for him, getting a grilled cheese is a treat and makes my meal (and the meals of our dining neighbors) much better.

What's great, though, is that Disney does know what it's like to have a picky child and does accommodate us!

I'm 57 and won't eat meat. I also have a texture problem with it, and refuse to swallow it. He might outgrow it, but I never did. Good luck!
