"Chicken exits" on rides

My 23-year-old DS won't ride the coasters. I can't get enough of them. Our next trip will be just me and him. I don't want to just leave him waiting outside while I'm in line. Plus, the que line theming is always so cool. Are there exits before you actually get on the ride for those who don't want to ride or back out at the last second? We used to call them "chicken exits".

ALL rides.
No problem.

All you need to do is simply enter the queue, move through the line, get up to the person who is boarding the attraction (as stated ANY attraction, even Dumbo) and say "one to ride, one to exit". Your son will be taken out with no problems.

I do caution that you have cell phones (who doesn't these days :)) because there are several places where he will be in another area since you will exit through a gift shop or somewhere else. You might think about having a meeting spot after your ride and he can just go there after his exit and you meet up. He won't be there very long - just the length of the ride so it's not like he'll be able to go off and have fun on his own.

I had to do this for about five years after I broke my neck and the entire process is really easy for both parties.

Yes - I am a ride chicken!! All rides have the chicken exits. Even this trip, I wanted to see the Mission Space queue and asked the CM at the beginning of the ride if I could get out at the end. She told me how, then handed me an Orange card (there are Green cards for a milder ride and an Orange one for the "big" ride). I said again that I didn't want to ride and she said that's okay just give this to the other CM at loading, but I was so freaked out that they might put me in the machine by mistake, I chickened out of going to the chicken exit!!

My kids did this at the last minute - kind of an "I'll go if you go" thing and jumped in the Green ride line with a 5 minute wait. I was surprised that they said they wished they had tried for the Orange ride.

Nobody PUTS anybody on any MS vehicle.
The guest totally determines if she wants to go... up to the very, very last minute before boarding. The guest has many choices of when to "chicken exit." Even up to when you see the vehicle (which is fully after Gary Sinese briefs all of the "team members" before the doors to where the ride vehicles open.)
You can simply NOT board, if you don't want to.

Great info. Thanks!

Baaaaaaa ha ha ha ha!! That's funny!

Mission Space is one I discovered the hard way that I can't ride. I can do coasters. Spinny, not so much. I did MS right after it opened. Thank goodness there's an arcade (and benches!) at the exit. My son played the games while my DW sat with me on the bench while I tried to recover. That was rough. But after 15 minutes or so I was good-to-go...as long as we didn't get anything to eat for awhile. LOL

I always enjoy watching families/riders come off of the rides while I wait for my bunch. ToT is my favorite - such joy from everyone! But watching people come out of Mission Space, not so much. Lots of people trying to get to benches, or just walking out with no reactions at all on their faces. Yikes!!!

ToT is awesome! As stated previously, my son won't do coasters. We went to WDW on his junior high field trip. I told him ToT isn't a coaster, it just goes up and down. So he did it. I think I scarred him for life. He came off in tears. I felt so bad! So I don't even ask anymore. With that said, he said he might try Seven Dwarfs Mine Ride when we go next year! Woooo hooooo!

The 1,000 warnings before it even starts is more unnerving than the ride itself. But the g-force when looking straight up, I have to breathe through that or there's going to be a call for "clean-up in spaceship #1".

If you did it right after opening then just know they have significantly tamed the ride down. It use to be close to what real astronauts experienced. Then Disney quickly realized that the typical park goer is probably not as fit and conditioned as a NASA astronaut haha. After the sheer number of medical reports and unfortunately even a death (although some say the little boy may have died either way as it was an unknown heart condition) they turned the G-forces way down. On the green side the capsules either don't move or barely move and they just blow wind in your face. Orange side was turned down so it doesn't spin as fast any more.

This is why Mission: SPACE has airsick bags in it.

Love how the chicken exit on ToT is an elevator :)
I had to convince my DS that is was not the ride while my DH and DD were on the actual ride!

One of my friends said they had a panic attack as a kid because it was just them and the CM taking the chicken exit while her parents and brother were on the ride. She was convinced her dad had paid off the CM to take her on the "private" version of the ride haha.

You can't do MS Orange side.

You definitely could do Green side. There is NO spinning on that side.

And orange isn't supposed to fell like spinning. For many if you follow instructions exactly all you will feel is the g forces. You shouldn't feel the actual spin. Some people will feel it and others won't follow instructions of course.

Yep, I did this when I was pregnant. DH and I waited in line together and I took the chicken exit.

I won't ride elevators unless it's an absolute necessity--a little bit of a phobia...but ToT is my favorite attraction at WDW by a long shot. I would actually be more scared of the chicken exit.
