I have never been on Splash Mountain. I suffer from motion sickness. I have come to know which rides I can go on and determined early on that Splash Mountain is not one of them. My DD and I are going to WDW tomorrow. She wants me to take some motion sickness preventative medicine and go on Splash Mountain with her because the pre-show before the drop is so awesome. My son said I can always use the chicken exit. My daughter says there isn't one. Can anyone tell me if in fact there is one? I seem to recall reading about someone who tried to get out when the ride slowed down and caused the ride to stop completely while they dealt with her, sounded embarrassing. Thanks, this time tomorrow my plane will be touching down in Orlando.

The only chicken exit is after you've gone through the queue before you board the ride. Once you're on the ride, you're on the ride. This is true of all the rides with "chicken exits." They allow you to enjoy the themeing of the queue, but if the last minute before you get on the ride you chicken out, you aren't forced to ride.

A question for you: What in your past experience is leading you to believe that Splash Mountain would bring out motion sickness? The reason I ask is that I have a friend who has pretty bad motion sickness. No tea cups, no body wars, she can't even do the circlevision movies. Anything that disoreints or spins makes her sick. But she loves Splash Mountain. Doesn't make her sick at all. I know everyone is not the same, just wondered if maybe you wouldn't even have to worry about getting sick. Have you been on a flume ride before that made you sick?

PS: Have a great time!!! :bounce: :bounce:

No chicken exit after you get on the boat. So no, you won't be able to really see the theming on Splash unless you are willing to go over the drop.

I finally gave in and rode it last year, when my 5 yo cried because he didn't want to leave me behind (he had been riding with Dad.)
I don't like the drop at all but if there is any theme park ride in the world worth taking drugs to see, it would have to be Splash--it really is quite amazing inside.

I find that if I brace my legs really well, sort of lift my body off the seat a little, and close my eyes, the dropping sensation is not enough to make me ill. Unfortunately, they have a camera placed on the drop; so you not only get to experience it, you get to see yourself experiencing it as you walk out of the ride.

I have never been able to pinpoint exactly what makes me sick. Just going to the grocery store in a warm car can do it. The dropping sensation puts my stomach (and all it's contents) in my mouth. Being on water definitely brings it on. Can't do Tower of Terror either, a fast moving elevator in downtown Toronto will give me the same effect. I have been on a flume ride once with the children when they were little, anyone who knows Centreville on Centre Island, Toronto, knows the one. I felt ill for the rest of the day and still had to face the ferry ride home at the end of it. Maybe if I try it at the end of the day when we know we are going back to the resort right after I'll be OK, certainly I'll take some Bonamine that day.

Oh gosh, that's really a bummer. Yeah, if you try it, I'd do exactly what you're thinking of. Take the medicine and do it at the end of the day. The last thing you want to do is have to walk around WDW all day long if you're feeling sick. At least at the end of the day you can go collapse in your room if you need to.

Even though Splash is on water, I wouldn't compare it to other flume rides. Usually, those have rapidly moving water and you can be jostled from side to side as you ride along.

I suffer from motion sickness very easily, too. But 99% of the ride at Splash Mountain never bothers me at all. It's slow moving water; I'd call it more of a leisurely float.

There are a couple of small drops, (nothing to be alarmed about), and then the big drop. That's the only part that may bother you, but there are no more drops after that. Usually by the time we've exited the ride, my tummy has calmed back down.

I have great luck using Bonine . . . still can't do RNRC or Space Mtn, but I can handle TOT. Personally, I think you should try at least one ride on Splash Mtn. It's much smoother than you think, and you're missing LOTS by not experiencing it!!

Ya know, Splash looks so much "worse" than it actually is. I do not like roller coasters, I do not like the drops.

The drop on splash really is like ridding in slow motion. It's really not bad at all.

I'm glad my dd is now tall enough. I'm hoping she'll want to ride this trip.

I suffer from motion sickness and ride Splash Mountain (with the help of Less Drowsy Dramamine.) Without the Dramamine, even IASW makes me sick. Even you take something, Splash Mountain wouldn't be bad at all. I think I could do it without taking anything if I had to.

I also get motion sickness on some rides, but have never had a problem with Splash Mtn. I do wear "sea bands", which look like wrist bands but have a round, plastic knob (for lack of a better word) that puts pressure on the wrists. These have worked for me on a cruise, airplanes, & several amusement park rides. I can't handle the simulator rides & have never tried TOT. If you can find a way, go on Splash. The drop is a very small part of it & it is just so well done & entertaining!

I also suffer really badly from travel sickness but love any type of white knuckle rides. I always wear travel bands when I go to parks and am never sick on any type of ride. I would reccommend you try these.
I hope you have a good trip.

Definetly a chicken exit on splash mtn but only after the que. You'll cross right over where they are loading the ride to the exit. The ride is a lot of fun though and the big drop isn't as bad as it seems.

I am a motion sickness sufferer, I would have never considered Splash Mountain as a ride to cause a problem with that. Maybe I'm not as bad as some. The drop doesn't feel at all like a drop to me, just a fast boat ride. I'm so focused on whether or not I'm going to get wet, I don't even noticed the dropping. There is one little whoop-de-doo in the ride that may give you a little floaty head sensation, it's a teaser to the actual drop. Other than that, the boats take a leisurely float through the Brier Patch.

I also read that chicken exit thread. Apparently the poster saw a door inside the ride just before the drop and her DH convinced her it was there for quick exits. Let me assure you, that is not the case. If you get out of the boat in the ride, you could be politely escorted from the park by security. It is not at all safe to do that.

The drop down to the laughing place is like Pirates it is small but it has a double hump to it. This is a dry drop then it goes back into water. The laughing place is the last part until the big drop. The drop itself is not the way it appears from the out side. You see the boats dropping but the last part is hidden from view. The whole drop is like a slide you start out at the top and the car slides, not straight down but like a smooth transistion from the top to the bottom. It is more like a lazy J than a straight line. The theming is really nice and after the drop you still have more before the end of the ride. I would also agree to make this the last ride of the day I think that will help you out for the first time. If you like the ride then you can ride it again sort of back to back. Have fun.

Mary,

Splash mountain has the smallest drop for a log flume - it is only 52ft.

if you can try and go on it - it is a 12 minute ride and is fab!

This is off the subject of the "chicken exit" and motion sickness but what kind of restraint system is on Splash Mtn. Is there an individual bar for each person or one lap bar for the whole row? I am very afraid of drops like that without my own bar. I feel more secure. Thanks for any help!

There is no restraint system on Splash Mountain at WDW. You sit two to a row and i have never felt like I was going to fly out. I took a 4 1/2 year old who is light as a feather and barely over the 40 inch requirement and he didn't come close to moving. As long as you stay seated, you will not come out of the log.

Thanks. I have always wanted to ride it but was afraid of the drop. I'm sure I'll love it once I get the nerve to just do it. I was terrified of Tower of Terror and now it's one of my favorite rides.

Oh if you love Tower of Terror you'll be just fine on Splash Mountain. Have fun!
