We ran out of dog food last week and it was DH's job to pick it up. We went from Nutro Max to Nutro Ultra about 6 months ago. The pet store didn't have any Ultra left, so DH got the Max thinking it would be ok.

Peabody has the gastric problems of a neurotic old man, so 4 times last week he puked his food after eating it (and in true beagle fashion ate the regurgitated food before I discovered it :sad2: ). So until I can get to another store to get the ultra to mix in with the max, I've been feeding them boiled chicken or ground turkey with rice and cottage cheese. Very happy beagles.

Well the past few days neither dog has been drinking much. Tried different bowls. Tried ice water. Tried ice cubes. nothing. Roswell I suspect has been toliet water sampling, but Peabody can't reach. Being worried about them with the food recall, and the fact he was vomiting, I've been stressed about getting him especially to drink. So last night I added water and ice cubes to the chicken broth leftover from boiling their chicken. They lapped it down so fast I thought they were going to choke. So I'm happy that I have solved the issue until Peabs goes to the vet tomorrow for his shots and I can ask him for opinions.

Suffice to say I have created a monster. The dogs would not leave me alone last night or this morning until they had more of the watered down chicken broth. And with the trilling and whining they were doing it was like they were suffering from dt's within 2 hours after downing it. :rotfl:

So beware of giving your dogs chicken broth.

When my beagle has an upset stomach they gets success rice cooked in low sodium chicken broth. My vet told me to make sure it was low sodium since the regular stuff is so high in sodium. So they get some broth and some rice and boy do they love it!

as the mom of an equally neurotic basset hound.....I feel you pain :rotfl:

In the summer, when it's really hot, I make Pup-Sicles of 1 part broth to 3 parts water and freeze it in a little dish. Indy goes crazy for them

My 14 year old Golden is on daily liquid medication three times a day for neuropathy. It is administered in chicken broth and indeed she loves it! She still drinks water straight up though..:thumbsup2

My pup goes nutz when I open a can of chicken noodle soup. We also water it way down before he gets the leftovers. :thumbsup2
