My dh is off on a business trip and my oldest dd will be spending the night with her grandparents. It will only be me and the baby (who is actually sleeping much better these days). I am planning on getting a pint of Ben & Jerry's coffee heath bar crunch and watching a good chick flick. But I don't know what to watch. I have seen all the old standards (Dirty Dancing, Pretty Women, When Harry met Sally, Steel Magnolias, Fired Green Tomatoes, all great but I have seen them a thousand times) I think the last newer movie I was was Vanity Fair, and I loved it. I know there are a lot of movie watchers here and I wanted to know what you would recommend?

For a less well known chick-flick Man In The Moon with Reese Witherspoon (when she was 15).

Love, Actually is great! I also like Bridget Jones Diary (the 1st one, the sequel not so much),

I have tried to watch that one but I couldn't get into it. Maybe I should give it another try.

I love that movie, so sad. I turned it on at 3 am morning when the baby wouldn't sleep and cried my eyes out.

Since you liked Vanity Fair (period piece), how about Sense and Sensibility? I love that movie.

French Kiss is one of my favorites. Another one is The other Sister, or if you are in the mood for a good cry Stepmom.

if you haven't seen it - The Notebook

(I couldn't get into Love, Actually either)

for something light hearted - I'm not a Jennifer Garner fan at ALL...but "13 going on 30" was adorable

I also liked Where the Heart Is with Stockard Channing and Natalie Portman.

I brought over "The Bridges of Madison County" to my SO's. He said it was a "chick flick", LOL! :earseek: I always thought that it was for everybody. He said that he liked it, though. :rotfl:

I am way too chicky, I love all the movies mentioned so far (though I haven't seen House Of Flying Daggers)

I really liked 13 going on 30.

Notting Hill is one of my favorites, if you haven't seen it.

Saw The Wedding Date recently and didn't care for it, so don't recommend it -- good characters, but didn't believe the main characters "loved" each other (film didn't have much progression from strangers into lovers, if you ask me).

My favorite is "Return to Me" with Minnie Driver and David Duchovny. Not only a great romantic comedy, but also two different side stories - the grandfather played by Carroll O'Connor and his cronies are hysterical, and Bonnie Hunt and Jim Belushi as her friends are just the best. I can watch this movie over and over...even my children love it.

That's my vote as well. I'm not a movie cryer usually but I bawled my eyes out with this one.

have you seen Hope Floats with Sandra Bullock and Harry Connick, Jr?

Diary of a Mad Black Woman...a great chick flick that will make you laugh!! :cool1:

Sweet Home, Alabama - loved it!
