We had tickets to go see Wicked in Cleveland last weekend.. which due to the snow, we didn't make.

We've priced some airline tickets to fly into Midway. It'd be about $240 for us both to fly in Saturday and leave Monday. We would probably buy tickets to the 2PM Wicked showing Sunday.

However, we're both unfamiliar with Chicago. Is public transport easy and affordable? The only *cheap* hotel I could find with decent reviews on TripAdvisor is by Lincoln Park, but I have no idea how far that is to the theatre district or the touristy stuff.

Would we be better off to pay an inflated price to stay in downtown Saturday night (we'd get there about 9am) and find a cheapie by Midway for Sunday night? (Flight leaves Midway at noon-- so there really wouldn't be time for any sightseeing Monday.) Or is the hotel by Lincoln Park going to be close enough to where we'd want to be (which is wherever touristy stuff is. We haven't researched beyond Wicked)

Also, we searched but only found records of closed Military bases in the Chicago area. Is this the case? We're eligible to stay on base if there is one close enough.

Thanks for any help.. we're really flying blind here, which makes us a little uneasy!

Just got a hotel downtown at the Hyatt on Hotwire for $80.00 today. This is for Saturday night. Int. Housewares show starts on Sunday. (can't wait) Should be alot of people downtown this weekend.

Are you renting a car? Or just cabing.

PM me for more info.

Lincoln Park isn't going to be convenient for the theater. You're going to want Millennium Park, Loop & Grant Park Area. Check hotels.com, hotwire.com or priceline.com.

The Midway area hotels are actually a little ways away from the airport. You can catch the Orange Line train to go downtown right in the Midway terminal...VERY convenient. Then, depending where your hotel is, you might be able to walk, take another branch of the L train, or just hop a cab.

I fly in and out of MDW frequently and would not stay at one of the airport hotels unless I needed to in order to catch a flight. (I've done it and vowed never again unless absolutely necessary.) It is not a nice area.

Go on Travelzoo.com and get a downtown hotel - River North or the Loop. You will have a much better time. Chicago is great, you will love it.

I am 1 mile from Midway. If you take the Orange line to downtown from the MDW, it will take your right into the heart of the Loop.

If I were you, i would be interested in any hotel you can find along Michigan Avenue from about Van Buren, approx 400 South, to Roosevelt Road 1200 South.

The Hilton is 720 S. Michigan. The Orange Line starts to "LOOP" just after Van Buren. So, if you exit before Van Buren, You are no more than a 2 block walk to Michigan Avenue.

When is your trip? I saw a great rate at either the Hilton or the Hyatt for this weekend.

Piecey, What kind of adorable dog is that?

I just wanted to tell you that I saw Wicked in Chicago 3 weeks ago and LOVED it. Have a great time!

Thanks for all the replies. We'd be looking at going April 12-14.
At this point, unless a really great offer smacks us in the face I think we've decided it's not very logical $$(we're doing Vegas in May so maybe I'll get to see Wicked next year?)
