DH and I may be going to Chicago for two days in December to celebrate our anniversary. I am overwhelmed at the places to stay. I feel like we want to be near the shopping/theater district(Milennium Mile?). We would love to catch a show as well, so I need recommendations on where to stay, where to eat, and a great show to see????? The last time I was in Chicago I was 4 years old, so it's been a while....:lmao:

Thanks to anyone who can give us any information!!!:thumbsup2

Millennium Park area is closer to the theatre district, Magnificent Mile is slightly north and closer to shopping, but they're both a very short cab ride from the other. The Hyatt on Wacker Drive is just about in the middle of the two areas and gets decent reviews. Also The Wit is in the middle of the two and supposed to be very nice.

What type of restaurant recommendations are you looking for? Fancy sit-down (Spiaggia)? Casual sit-down (Italian Village)? Pizza (Giordano's, Gino's East, Pizzeria Uno)? Ethnic - Chinese (House of Fortune), Mexican (Topolobampo, Frontera Grill), Greek (Athena's, Greek Islands, Venus)? If you can narrow things down, we'll be able to help.

I've heard raves about Billy Elliott and the Lion King, but haven't been to either yet. Here's a link that may be helpful: http://www.theatreinchicago.com/

I was in Chicago in July. We stayed at Hotel Burnham. It is in the theatre district and within walking distance to the Magnificient Mile. Also very close to Millennium park. The hotel is absolutely beautiful and has a great restaurant downstairs. We ate at Park Grill while we were there and the food was fantastic.

Not too fancy, but we do like "nice". We love sushi, and some authentic Chicago style pizza would be great as well.

Thanks!

Check out travelzoo.

There are always hotel deals for Chicago as well as entertainment.

Pizza - I would recommend Gino's East, Giordano's, or Lou Malnati's. All 3 serve deep dish.

Thank you all so much! I bet we will definitely try out the sushi place and one of the pizza places! I noticed someone else posted about Chicago and mentioned eating at Catch 35--may have to check that out as well. I will definitely check out travelzoo as well. Heading there now....

The Hyatt on Wacker is nice... There is also a Hilton on Michigan pretty much across from the park that is really nice. I always reccomend the Drake which is not near the park, but on Michigan and sooooo Chicago.
As for food I highly reccomend Devons on Chicago and Michigan as well as lots of restaraunts on Rush St. If you want something that is quintessental Chicago, go to the Hancokck Building and have drinks at the Signature Lounge on the 95th floor.... You can also have dinner there which is also nice.

Pack your heavy coat, gloves, hat and boots... Throw fashion out the window for the weekend and go for warmth and function!

Have fun!

We saw Billy Elliot and loved it. I also saw that Wicked is coming back in December and we absolutely loved that too!

I like to use Priceline-name your own price-do 4 stars in loop area or miracle mile area-really can't go wrong-I usually pay around 65-75 a night and have gotten nice hotels. The Hyatt is really central. The city is done up really nice at Christimas time
