We went to the city last Saturday for the Disney lights festival on the Magnificent Mile of Michigan Avenue. It was wonderful to have a small taste of Disney in Chicago!
We saw the Disney stage show which was set up by the Tribune Tower...Mickey, Minnie, Chip, Dale, Goofy, Pluto, Donald, Daisy and the Disney princesses all particpated in the show. They did regular and holiday song and dance routines, and then did some little sort of advertisements for the various theme parks at WDW (Mickey in a silver space suit advertising Epcot, for example). We then ran around the city looking at all of the various Christmas decorations, and had lunch at the Signature Room on the 95th floor of the Hancock Center, plus saw all the cool trains they had on display there. The lights festival itself started around 6 p.m. with Mickey Mouse on a huge Disney float, going down the Mag Mile and lighting all the trees with tiny white lights. They also had floats with other Disney characters on them, and a few specific to the Chicago area, too. Then, we went closer to the Chicago River for the fireworks display, which was probably a good 20 minutes in length and was quite good. I heard on the news there were over 900,000 (yep, nine hundred thousand) people at the lights fest, the weather was perfect this year, not too cold or windy, and it was an enjoyable time! If you live near the city of Chicago, this is an event that is scheduled every year for the Saturday before Thanksgiving and is a fun way to start the holiday season!
