Chicago Cubs fans - Rebuilding Year 2023

Tough couple of days for the Cubs and their fans! :crazy2:

Regardless of their performance we decided to go see them against the Braves in July. Taking the son with us since he's bummed about missing (actually not invited!) the Chicago trip.

Hoping for a W soon! My flag pole looks so empty...

Hope you all had a restful and thankful Memorial Day weekend!

Just keep that W.S. W feeling with you even when the flag isn't flying. Many just don't get how that was SO MUCH MORE than beating all other teams. The amazing thing with the Cubs is that they encompass a lot more than just the game of baseball :goodvibes

That's awesome that you are going in July! Cubs are barely here that month, a LOT of fans will be traveling if they want to see them :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo: Many (or recent) fans forget that how the team is playing right now was actually pretty dang good not too long ago, lol. .500 or above was awesome! It will be fun to be at a baseball game, and getting to see awesome plays by either team is always a great time!:thumbsup2
You weren't the only fan here, per se...I was just not in the posting mood.

I don't care for those particular uniforms for Memorial day weekend. For veteran's day, maybe. Memorial day is supposed to be in remembrance of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country. I guess in my mind, it should be half black and half red, white & blue. Black to remind us of their sacrifice and red, white & blue to remind us of the freedoms we enjoy due to their sacrifices. Or maybe black hat/socks and red, white & blue uniform.

I guess it's more embrace the suck time...the guys just look off all the way around (except maybe Rizzo...he's still strokin 'em good)...several seem like they're on the verge of breaking out, but the leaving RISP is KILLING us. Problem is, it's such a mental game and right now, I think mentally, they're screwing themselves up. I keep hoping for a breakout soon. It's depressing seeing guys with so much more potential and struggling so much.

They are pressing, way too much. I see it in the Indians too, and Fowler is/was on the verge of being benched as well. The WS Champ team was studied HARD and the other teams are capitalizing on any weaknesses. Now people are calling for Happ to be sent back down, the same voices that wanted him up .The kid is great but not mentally ready for the grind of the majors yet.(which had been eluded to ) His frustration at his PH strike out yesterday did him absolutely no favors. He'll prob stay up until All Star break then head back down to let him have the playing time he needs. As far as everything else hitting a brick wall...it's a viscous circle right? Gotta have the pitching to keep the ball playable for the defense to give the bats a chance to get ahead, lol. Honestly, I have always been a fan of small ball and tho I know it isn't Joe's M.O.~I hope we see some more of it. Joe LOVES night games, maybe he will be in Guru mode tonight and something will click. The errors have to stop tho..Addie has something going on with these easy throws to first, but makes that spectacular grab in the 7th (beating out Kyle, ol) and that missed DP by Javy yesterday?:confused3 Butler on the mound...so was hoping Kyle could have gone 7 yesterday..AND he started out looking like a no-hitter honestly...but after that grand slam, just lost it. Our bp still in decent shape which is good ..need to protect it coming back to play STL. Speaking of pitching, the Dodgers seem to have a little DL strategy gong to rest up their starters :scratchin Wood just placed on the DL with sc joint inflamation...ok....:rolleyes1. The joys of baseball , I love it all, up or down but I also love strategy and I hope to see more of it. On the up-side, at least we weren't the Twin's yesterday......ouch

Regarding the unis/Memorial Day...I completely agree. I most certainly appreciate the sentiment behind it all though.

Also completely agree about it being a mental game and the guys need to get out of their heads. And yes, the RISP thing is :crazy2::headache::scared::sad::confused3:confused::faint::sick:

I still occasionally watch the video of KB throwing the ball to Riz in game 7. Makes me smile every time! I'm not a recent fan so I remember that for many, many years there wasn't much to cheer about.

We had a great time last year at the Cubs/Braves game. Can't wait to see the new stadium!

Looks like some of you are starting to be concerned like I am.

Oh I've been concerned. They clearly aren't playing to their full potential and that is disappointing. Probably more for them than me though. Quite a few of them are the ages of my kids and I can't fathom them being able to hold up under the pressure. That's a LOT. I think the difference for me though is I'm choosing to not just focus on the negative. They aren't the best team but they aren't the worst. They have room for improvement but, man, have they come a long way. And whatever happens I'm a Cubs fan for life.

ITA...and last year can NEVER be repeated..even if we were 50-0 right now it will never measure up. Would be freakin' awesome, but more mechanical, KWIM? I hope they can get into whatever groove works for them~and the sandlot joy of baseball returns to them.
I saw JHey and his GF took a helicopter to SD from LA and not the bus, and then JHey gots 2/3 of our hits...maybe the bus wasn't the best, lol.

I bet the new stadium will be stellar, altho the old one seemed just fine...go figure.

AMEN! Cubbies for life!!!! :love::love::love::love:

I too have rooted for them when they stunk and when they had the chance and now when they DID IT. Yes, I want a repeat, but they have been and will continue to be my team regardless. I still say nobody sings take me out to the ball game as well as Harry, but I still listen.

tonight's lineup...we are facing Lamet, who has not faced an active Cub player in the majors. Cubs are 4-6 in that scenario

Yeah, I was following the score on my phone. It's disappointing that we can't beat up on the lowly Padres.
Bummer that we couldn't take advantage of the entire league losing(what is going ON with the NLCS? :confused3)~ I was trying to figure out why Jay was batting 5th,( you know that meant Riz was going to get garbage all night)AND 3k's from him not the norm. I guess they were hoping he knew where to try and place one in that park? Pitching us high fastballs the successful recipe of the night again. Butlers curve ball was looking pretty decent but then again, leaving how many RISP puts the pressure back on, mistakes get made and bam, 6 runs before you know it. JHey still keeping his bat going, and nice to see a Schwarbomb again. CJ looked sharp as heck and Hector had a 1-2-3!Not exactly sure where Pedro was aiming with his throw to first, but his feet sure weren't involved, lol. Padres were fired up from the game 1 win, their pitcher could barely contain himself. That was hilarious when he walked off after 2 outs, lol..Schwarb's DID make him pay for that duh moment. I am hoping they will be overconfident/cocky today and we get the W~ would really like that heading into the STL series. They (Padres) beat us last year. Ahhh , the sweet feeling of no pressure / nothing to lose vs intense pressure/ high expectations. Matty must be loving it, and I think he may have packed most of our offense in his bag :rolleyes1. I wonder if he will get a start today..tho I imagine the Padres want the sweep, BAD.

I've seen individual players in a slump and even 2 or 3 at the same time, but this seems to be as if almost the whole team is in a slump at the same time. I can only imagine how frustrating it must be for them if it's this much for fans. Come on guys, you're better than this and just remember, it's supposed to be fun and you do better when you're having fun!!!

STL lucks out and faces Ryu of the Dodgers with Wood being placed on the DL...hoping DeGrom has flashbacks of lights out against the Brewers tonight.

lineup

Zobrist 2B
Schwarber LF
Bryant 3B
Riz 1B
Happ CF
Heyward RF
Contreras C
Baez SS

Hey Chicago (and the rest of us), what do ya say, Cubs are going to win today.
Go Cubs go!!!

We all want a Win, but especially for Kewz1 lonely flagpole. :tilt:

I almost wish if we were gonna lose by 1 , that it was Matty who got it. I think the helicopter flying over yesterday was a search party looking for our offense, lol. Well, STL gonna go hard against the Dodgers tonight now, knowing they have a window and Ryu their best chance at a win. It's almost like the Cubs were told to throw the season. Last time I saw the looks on players faces like this was play-offs of '03 with "Dud"sty Baker...beating our pitching into the ground. That said, I still love watching them play (could only listen today tho) even with b2b broom action.
