Chicago Cubs fans - Rebuilding Year 2023

I am guilty of giving LaStella a hard time, but he stepped up tonight and then some. Thank you Tommy, your homer made the difference on the W! Keep it rolling guys, sunshine will be out tomorrow, Lester been doing great~ looks the day and a half of rest sure made a difference. I think KB still out tomorrow, but at least not a last minute change.

Wow! I was holding my breath there!

Btw, my daughter graduates college in the morning! Whoohoo! Thanks for the win, Cubbies!!
Congrats' to your daughter! I'd put a W on her mortar board, lol.

Definitely error on Riz but that throw by Willie was garbage.
No mention of his 2 homer's and pick on Dex? Just a dig on a throw that was high ? really~:rolleyes2 and Riz could have had that, we all know he grabs throws that are worse and makes it look easy.

As I said, it was definitely an error on Riz.

I didn't realize I had to comment on everything? Obviously his HR's were the difference in the game but that doesn't change the fact that his throw was garbage. The runner is just jogging to first base, it's not a close play, and Willie feels the need to side arm a 100MPH fastball to Rizzo. Absolute garbage effort right there by Willie.

my bad..I thought I'd go with the benefit of the doubt that given we just beat STL, and you love to comment that you might acknowledge the 3 game winning plays a guy makes instead of 1 bad one that was a combined goof, lol...silly me. Won't make that mistake again.:rolleyes1 That's ok...the Media's got it covered.

Willlsoooooonn!!!

And then there was the rest of the game, which was the Willson Contreras Show from start to finish. Last year, Contreras hit 12 home runs in just 283 plate appearances. Coming from a catcher, that’ll open some eyes around the game, and indeed it did. But entering Friday’s action, the Cubs’ young backstop had slugged just two homers across his first 107 plate appearances of 2017, and none to the opposite field.

That all changed on Friday. Contreras took Cardinals starter Mike Leake deep twice in this one — in the second and then again in the fourth — and looked good doing it. The first blast was smoked to right at 109.5 mph, a fastball on the outer third that caught too much of the plate. It was the hardest-hit home run of Contreras’ career for about half an hour, until he came to the plate in the fourth and took Leake out to center-right at nearly 115 miles per hour.

Nobody’s expecting Contreras to be the second coming of Johnny Bench. But if he can maintain the level of power production he showed last year, he’ll be an exceptionally valuable catcher for years to come, even if the Cubs would prefer that he doesn’t throw the ball into short right too much, as he did in the ninth inning tonight. Then again, his pick of Dexter Fowler in the seventh ended a Cardinals threat, so … shrug. It was Willson’s night through and through.

WAY TO GO CUBS!

HAPPY 25TH BIRTHDAY WILLSON!!!!!!!!!!party:

Welcome up Ian. it's HAPPening

and this is why you don't trade off on a knee- jerk over pitching. Just do what you do Ian, and have a blast! I doubt he's up to be "show-ponied" as we are pretty banged up right now..kid could be up a while, or a week~but I guess the benefit is there to see what interest occurs. Concerned over Addie and Jay..hopefully this is all well on the mend. Riz, he just isn't Riz..good vibes sent to him

Knee jerk? lol. Cubs went into the year with big pitching questions and they've done nothing to answer those questions. Cubs will be trading for starting pitching by the deadline, I am positive. And that will definitely include someone such as Schwarber, Baez, Happ, or Candy Man.

What a bonehead play by Happ, wow. Getting really tired of the mental errors being committed by this team.

Another issue is this lineup is absolutely brutal. Need KB and JH back asap, these other kids ain't getting it done.

Tough loss, Umps knew they screwed up on that call on Happ/Rizzo or Joe would have been tossed. No doubt about it. Happ was legal, his way of getting up instead of reaching for the bag only thing he goofed a little on and trigger happy Ump blew it. Lousy call, changed the game. Nice homer from him. Anyone who was calling for him to be traded yesterday for pitching?:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Hey Doc...if you're around, I've joined you in removing the toxins :thumbsup2
Let's get 'em tomorrow and take the series!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Disagree. It was a good call by the umps although I would have preferred them not calling it (because they normally don't.) But it was just so obvious I think they felt they had to. Happ slid late, went through the bag, and ended up way past it by the time he was done. He has to hold on to the bag, even if it's just barely.

Also the homerun was great but I don't get why you're laughing about people wanting him to be traded for pitching. Theo wants Happ to crush the ball so that his trade value increases. That's how the game works.

Candelario has been a huge disappointment. 1 for 16 so far, absolutely brutal.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL THE CUB FAN MOM'S!!!!!!!!!!:rose::rose::rose::rose::rose::rose:(and Mom's of Cub Fan's :D and pet mom's)

Here's to a day of FUN baseball for our team, hoping for a Sandlot ~ one for the love of the game no matter the outcome. As much as I love to see them play I hope Addie, KB, Zobie and Jay remain out and continue to get back to 100%..off day tomorrow, no need to push any guys health in such a tight division . Back to Wrigley after today and boy will the ivy be green :thumbsup2 Pretty sure we will see replays of Javy's bomb last Mother's Day, always fun to see it :D

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL DAY FOR A GAME!!!!!!!!!

Sadly, I missed that game (too many other events going on). I wonder if there will be a clip of that somewhere...although since it went against us, maybe better for me not to see it. Organic (toxin free) living is way better. :yay:

Ya know, I've looked at the clip now and I'd like to say...
I don't like the slide rule
Not because this one happened to go against us, but because of the following:
1) If someone happens to mis-judge and slide face first and eat dirt (last week's game), are they out?
2) I'm think (hope) I'm not the only one who has slid into a base and not been able to hold the bag (even if there's no play there) --- it happens
3) If you're not going in spikes up or going out of the base path to intentionally try hurt the other player, it's BASEBALL

I realize they're trying to protect the players and I'm not advocating for them to get hurt, but don't take away from the game in the name of safety.

One of the commentators commented that he was just doing (sliding into base) what your taught from the beginning to do. Definitely a frustrating moment within a frustrating game

On a bright note...the hubs gave me a Dooney & Burke cross body purse in the Cubs pattern for Mom's Day. Very cute!
