Chicago Cubs fans - Rebuilding Year 2023

My gut says Gray, but again, injury makes me nervous. Greinke not a good personality match to me for our club..I know that isn't the main driving force but it factors in big. Cole, hmmmm, need to ponder that...after the game, lol.

I beg to differ. Ironically, the rooftops that are NOT obstructed are all owned by the Ricketts.

I didn't think they did re-construction with the intent of trying to block those out of park seats....I know they could have erected a wall behind the last row many years ago.

given your evidence, I'll concede I may have been wrong. Happens way more often than I wish. :guilty:

Whoo! You all were chatty yesterday!

Last night's game was good. So excited for Schwarbs and Javy. Didn't think I was going to make it to the end but found myself watching after getting into bed. A W is worth staying up for! Here's hoping my flag gets to stay flying for a while.

Happy Wednesday everyone!

I had to call it quits after 5th inning. Good to see Schwarbs get one. Fastest to 20 HRs in Cubs history. Congrats. Javy was SMOKIN'. Lester wasn't getting many of the calls he should have, but he persevered. He was painting the corners. The pickoff was great...don't need to throw it to first, go ahead and run...gotcha! Even though we didn't get the call with the throw back to 2nd, hopefully other teams take note...the kid can flat out throw, so don't get too big of a lead.

Happy to be flying the W

First Lester/Willy W! (in spite of the Umps apparent missing strike zone, lol....for EITHER team)Jon even threw overhand to second in the 3rd inning! BULLPEN BROUGHT IT!

I think Schwarb's gave a nudge to put his '15 ball back up on the Bud Board, lol

I listened to about a third of the game. Pat and Ron were talking about how Lester and he notoriously can't (won't?) throw to first base. From what I gathered, he's been holding the ball and staring at the runners and that seems to be working :). They were also talking about how narrow and inconsistent the strike zone was. One pitch would be a strike and the next one, a better pitch, would be a ball.

It really was bogus but kudos to Jon and Willy for just grinding away and keeping their heads in spite of base runners the bad calls cost us. There was pitch that wasn't called and I thought Jon was going to incinerate the Ump with his glare, lol. Same one he "throws" at runners instead of the ball. The balk call on the Phillies was a gift, that was super slight...all I can figure is the 2nd base Ump was trying to make up for the home plate one, lol. Guess we gave a nice Welcome to Wrigley to Hellickson, lol. His first loss in 6 games and we clocked 3 homers off him, where I believe JD said he had only given up 2 in some 30 games. Javy's gonna ask every week if we play them lol. Great series for him so far. Maybe he just needed to cut off some of that blonde form the PR series.

When was the balk? Either I missed it or it was after I crashed. To be honest, with Hellickson's stretch/whatever, I couldn't understand how it wasn't a balk EVERY time. I've never seen a pitcher come set to his waist, pause a second or two, then come set again to in front of his face, pause a second or two and then deliver.

3rd or 4th maybe..game seemed like it was in the 8th when it was the 4th to me last night, lol. His moves are legal..trying to throw a batters timing off. As I was rethinking the game, I realized how little credit I gave to Lester's single that got the rally going, in which Schwarb's hit his homer , giving us the winning run. Atta boy Jon! I was really happy with Javy's at bat when he hit his triple too.

Good article about Cubs probably going to trade for pitching. I forgot about Chris Archer but yes, that would be huge, especially since he's under contract through 2021. Guessing they'd have to trade some combo of Schwarber/Happ or Baez/Happ to pull that off.

Hey! We were JUST talking about Gray! I didn't realize he was originally drafted by the Cubs in '08. Too funny...I said my gut liked him lol. Thing is, I just don't see Kyle or Javy being traded in July, even for Archer. (never say never, I guess)~and Happ being groomed for 3rd so that tells me they'd prefer to keep him. CandyMan may be an offering though. Jeeze, I just hate it that we finally have a conga line of talent and most likely have to let it go :sad2:.I still think July is going to be a hot mess of trades. Someone start feeding Robby Z vitamins, and get Cease the crash course on the Majors lol.

Let's keep the W going....You ready Jake?

I actually think we have too much talent. If we put Happ at third, then where does Bryant go? We don't need all these young studs of ours sitting on the bench, it's pretty wasteful. We need a solid 9 + 2 reserves, that's really it. I really like Kyle and would hate to trade him, but to get a young stud pitcher under contract for years is necessary, especially since Jake is gone at year end. You're basically replacing him but getting to ride them both for a chance at the repeat.

you order your jersey(s) yet?:rolleyes1 they showed Zobie hanging after that :cold: game signing and taking pic's with fan's.....still in uniform. Awesome :goodvibes

Well sorta! I don't have access to Majestic jerseys here so I ordered a plain one first to make sure I got the right size. Way to go, Zobie!!!
