Chicago area Diser's - check in here Part 4

Hi everybody! Yes, it is Friday and I am so ready for the weekend. DS has baseball practice tonight and Sunday afternoon. Tomorrow he has basketball in the afternoon. Then Scouts on Sunday night. Maybe I could have a social calendar if he didn't have one!

Our Illiuminations Cruise is full - a family for Scotland and a family from Chicago. That's one less expense to worry about for the trip. I am starting to book the hotel for the drive down and then home. I usually do Priceline but not this year. I am going to get reservations that can be cancelled without penalyt just in case we get good airfare at the last minute. I am still holding out hope for decent airfare.

Only 69 days till I leave for Disney...but, whose counting?!

Have a great weekend everyone!
Lori

Thanks to everyone for their replies on my Chicago trip. I think we will go to Museum of Science & Industry. We went to Shedd Aquarium and Navy Pier last summer and liked both, but want to do somthing different this year. We went to Navy Pier on the hottest day of the summer! We're thinking that we'll try and use the city bus for transportation, we'll see, otherwise cab.
We're used to cold weather, we're in Wisconsin, so we're hoping it might be warm at the end of March. :rotfl2:
Thanks again and I'll probably have more questions as my trip gets closer! :)

Keep in mind that the last week of March is when a lot of kids in the area are on spring break. Use the Disney principal in getting there before it opens and doing lunch really early or brown bagging it. Also keep in mind that the chaos is not organized like Disney. :rotfl2: Seriously, we went last year the last week of March and chose to show up 1/2 hour after opening and the line to get tickets was huge then as we stood there the tickets for all the extra shows sold out one after the other and nothing but regular museum tickets were left. Finally at around 12:30 we went to get lunch and you literally couldn't even walk in the huge lunch room and we never did find the check out lines because we couldn't see them let alone get there. There were also people sitting on the floor eating because there were no open tables. Too bad there is no best museum days like there is for the different parks. :rotfl:

Good morning! It looks really cold out there. I wanted to stay in bed but the dogs had other ideas.

traces7 Sorry I couldn't chime in on suggestions, We don't get into the city as much as we want. Depending on your interests you could do the Field musuem and another in the same day. Be sure to check out the Trollies they are free a little crowded but free.

Sam How's megan going to handle sleeping with ghosts. I don't think I would like that. I wouldn't want to share my bed. Are you flying down?
Some friends and I were talking about maybe going down to Savannah too. I don't have anyone to leave Mr Alex with though.

Well I better get my chores started or I will be doing them all day.

Last night we watched a movie called Firehouse Dog (I think it was in the theaters last summer), and it was cute. Good for all families!!!! :thumbsup2

traces - Were you at Navy Pier on the hottest day in summer 07 or 06? We went to Navy Pier on the hottest day of the summer in 06, and it was brutal outside - I'll never forget it!!!

Sam - Wow, I didn't know that TMoS&I was 75 years old this year:eek: That's amazing!!!!

Mac - That was good you were able to get some things done :)
I love having a successful week :thumbsup2

momto1 - Wow, sounds like you have a busy weekend. How old is your son again - I can't remember

angwill - That's a good tip for the museum. I've never been there when it's that busy - that would stink!!! :guilty:

Well, I'm off to get ready for work
Have a good day today everyone!!

Today is DS birthday -- guess I need to change my signature since he's 11.

Wish me luck though -- it's Chuck E Cheese this afternoon! I did go ahead and buy an official birthday package for him. I figured that way we are guaranteed a table.

I've procrastinated though and still need to bake his cake. :scared1: It will get done.

I have to take DD off to gymnastics first though and such.

becky, happy birthday wishes for you son today.

i'm thinking spring from here on out.
i'll even go do my errands in shorts if that would make the weather get warmer sooner........

Last night we watched Licensed to Wed with Robin Williams, and it was just okay. On a scale of 1-10, I would give it a 6. I was hoping it would be super funny, and it was just sorta funny.

Today I am taking down the living room Christmas tree, and the rest of the Christmas decorations. As much as I love the tree, it does obstruct my view out the front window, and I love looking out that window, especially when the deer are out. So, it will be nice to have it down.

HERSEY - We posted at the same time yesterday :)

Becky - Happy Birthday to your DS!!!! :dance3: :dance3: I hope the party went well.

Mac - :wave2:

Well, I gotta get going, and start my day.
I slept in until 9am - boy it's great not having a baby anymore:goodvibes

Have a good day today everyone!!

Good morning all!

I don't know if my computer is slow or if the DIS is slow this morning?

Becky- Happy 11th birthday to your DS! Hope he had a good birthday with good ol Chucky Cheese! :bday: :cake:
I remembered last yr you had mentioned his birthday party was at a movie theater, to see Night at the Museum.

Slo-hope you and Stephanie have a great time tomorrow night at the HM concert! :yay:

Great news for DH and I!
DH's job finally went permanent!! He was laid-off from his previous job last June(mortgage industry). He finally found a job over the late summer with a temp agency. Was supposed to go perm. after 2 to 3 months, but never did. The CEO/ DH's boss finally offered the job permanent on Thursday!
So glad that is done! :cool1:

Hi to all :wave2:

Have a great day everyone!

Hersey, Megan isn't going on this trip. She'll be at home with Dad. This is just me and my sisters in law heading down for a girl's long weekend.

Slo: Firehouse Dog was a lot of fun. Megan and I saw it last year when we were visiting my folks in Florida. Gave us a chance to get out of the house and we didn't have to watch Law & Order for the 1000th time! Between Golf and Law & Order, it can get pretty dull down at Grandma & Grandpas!

Well we have to get going with our day. It's grocery shopping and a stop at Petsmart for pet food!

Take care everyone!!

have your backs covered, went to church this morning........
you know you can count on me..

hi rose, congratulations for that update.
i'm glad your dh will be there full time and permanent now.

just think, the weekend is almost over......where did it go?

Hi .

Just a quick HI..

Rose I am so glad for you that Don's job went permenent. That is great news I have been thinking about you. Does Chrissy sell cookies? If so count me in for a few boxes.

Becky- Happy 11th birthday to your DS! Only 1 more year to the terrible teens.. or has he started to do the teen thing already??

Eric had wrestling this weekend. A meet Thursday night- didn't get home until 9ish, one on Friday night got home about 9:30ish, and then Saturday was a Tournment in Woodstock.. He left about 6:30 am and got home at 6 pm.. a very long day. I went to the Tournment to see him wrestle and thought I'd only be ther a few hours.. well I was there 10ish to 4:30 pm..

so today has been cleaning, laundry , grocery shopping et al.. I have lots to do but want to stop by and day hi.. I am off to Michigan this week. Monday is work and then Boy scouts and then I leave on Tuesday..

If anyone wants to go to our Boy Scout Troop Pancake breakfast it is 2/9 from 7 am to noon. Scouts in uniform are FREE..and everyone else is $5.If you wanna journey to Palatine for an all you can eat pancake breakfast , let me know.

Washer stopped.. be back later

Talk to ya soon..

Rose -- That's *awesome* about the job!!! My DH is in the same situation except he's been at the temp position for over a year now. I'm not convinced he will actually get hired on. They keep telling him he's been put in for permanent but who knows. Oh well...as long as they keep paying we are good.

DS party went well...we survived. Woo Hoo. I'm really, really, really glad I reserved the actual party though. One of the moms came in and said she overheard the check-in person tell them it was at least a 30 min. wait for a table. :scared1: We lucked out and they let us stay at the table after our 90 minute party since there wasn't one scheduled after ours. Good thing since we didn't leave until 7:30!!!!!!!! The party started at 4!!! That was a very, very long night to hang out there but the kids had fun. As we were leaving it was really funny because I have the 4 kids, hands full of stuff and I hear someone say hello to DD. I'm thinking who in the world is here that we know? Turns out her choir teacher was there with his little guy. He was getting ready to leave it looked like. It was just a brief "Hi/Bye" other than DS deciding to tell him all about how it was his birthday, etc...

My little guy did absolutely so well though except he was scared of the "rat". Even DD who *loves* characters says this particular rat is scary! :rotfl: The little guy literally sat there almost the entire time just watching the videos that kept repeating & repeating & repeating. He just didn't want to go anywhere. It was really weird for a 4 year old to sit that long and not want to move. I think it's because he kept seeing Chuck E. walk around and was afraid he'd run into him.

We did go see Night at the Museum last year for this same son's party. I'm "officially" done with parties for him though (now watch, next year I'll be scheduling something!). I only do parties through the 5th grade, although someone DD has managed to snag a few extras. :lmao:

Doing a quick fly by, taking a break from helping Chrissy do a school project...

Thanks Mac, Geffric, and Becky :goodvibes

Geffric- Congrats that you and Scott have you jobs, too!
As of selling GS cookies, unfortunately Chrissy isn't in girl scouts this yr :guilty: :sad2: Her former troop disbanded as of Sept 30 of 2007. The leader of her troop just decided at the last minute not to continue. Other moms that were helping her had left over the summer and told the leader they couldn't help her out anymore. It's a very long story......
I did sign up Chrissy for the open registration for GS back in October,as there is another GS troop in her grade(5th grade) at school. I never heard a word from the recruiter mom, that recruits in our school. :sad2: I left several messages and never heard back :confused3 I have a $10 registration payment (by check) still outstanding.
So for now Chrissy won't be selling GS cookies as she isn't in a troop.
I sure would like 1 box of Thin Mints right about now.
If anything changes on that(GS), I will let you know.

I'll think about the Boy Scouts Pancake Breakfast, not sure what's going on yet on Feb 9. I'll let you know if we decide to go :)

Matthew's Blue and Gold dinner is in mid- March. He is crossing over to boy scouts. Time sure flies! Pinewood Derby is coming up in a couple of weeks.

Becky- I do hope and pray your DH's job goes permanent for him as well.

Ok, gotta run. Have a good evening everyone.

The weekend went by to fast!!!! :guilty:

Tonight is the night we go see Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana:cool1:
Stephanie and her friend are so excited!!!!:yay: :yay:
It should be a fun night!!!!! :)

Yesterday I hurt my big toe while putting away the Christmas decorations.
I accidentally rammed the Christmas tree box into my toe (after it was full and very heavy) pushing the nail back, while trying to get it into the attic to Kevin. It really hurts, and the nail has already turned grey/black. I've done this before with the same toe, and I did end up losing the nail. Now I'm praying with the masses of people tonight that no one steps on it, because that would really hurt!!!!!:guilty:

Rose - Congratulations to you and your DH for his job going permanent :cheer2: :cheer2: That is a great way for your family to start 2008 :goodvibes

Sam - That long weekend will be great!!! I can hardly wait to hear all about it!!:)

Mac - Thanks for the listings!!!! :)

geffric - Wow, you had a busy weekend!!! Now you can go to work and rest :)

Becky - I'm glad your DS's party went well :) That rat is kinda scary!!! ::yes::

Well, the shower is calling me
Have a good day today everyone!!!

Morning.
Slo, have a great time at the concert tonight.
Rose, congrats on your DH getting a permanent position at his job. I am sure that is a great relief for your family. Any more plans for your trip?
Mac, no snow here yet - well a few light flurries, but I can only see them on our deck.
Becky, glad your CC experience wasn't too bad.
I have the day "off" today. Decided I was going to lounge, watch a little TV and maybe even take a nap!!!!:woohoo: That never happens. I always have something I have to do.
I could do a little laundry and pick up, but NOPE!!! That junk will still be there tomorrow.
Enjoy your day all and try to stay warm.

Thanks Tiggerrn and Slo, for your congrats for my Dh's job :goodvibes

Tiggerrn- Enjoy your day off, you deserve it :)
As of my UO/ WDW trip, haven't planned much yet. Just too much going on here. But will start planning soon.

Matthew's first band concert is tomorrow night, band practice tomorrow afternoon at the jr. high as usual.

Have a good day everyone.

Hi everyone! Do you see what I see? Snow - oh, no! Just in time for the commute home.

Becky - Happy 11th birthday to your ds! My ds is 11, too. I am not sure I am liking this age!

Slo - How as Hannah? I bet your daughter was thrilled!

Rose - Congrats to dh on the job! Since your daughter isn't selling GS cookies, anybody that needs any extra can hit dh's stockpile. At this point, he has 9 boxes and one little girl hasn't delivered yet. What was he thinking? But, the funny thing is - he ordered them but I seem to be the one paying the GS cookie bill!

Geffric - I've noticed your postings about your sons in Scouts and making Eagle. Any tips on keeping them motivated? Ds likes Scouts when he is there and says he plans to make Eagle - he has 3 cousins that did - but he is so bad about following through on anything!

We survived the baseball practice weekend. Now, ds is doing a Gold Canyon candle fundraiser for his team. I think these should be pretty easy to sell but we have never done this before. I hope he does, or i will have to stockpile on candles so he reaches his required sales amount.

Off to check weather.com for the forcast and WBBM for the traffic alerts so I know what I am in store for this evening on the ride home.

Be Safe,
Lori
