Happy fourth of July, Chicagoland! I know I can never catch up with everything/everyone when I've been away for a few days!:confused3

Leigh...good to see you posting..

Geffric...I hope your days weren't too slow at work this week.

Slo..have fun at the parade! I'm glad Stephanie liked the planetarium. How did things go with leaving your employee at the store?

Tiggern...I hope your ankle starts feeling better soon. The house will always be there, this is the time to take care of yourself. And, all the best for the kids with getting the tonsils out.

Mac...how is your son doing? Hope his healing is going well.

Crissup...how funny that your relatives in Florida saw you on tv!!!:rotfl2:

Bunchkin...yep, we did LOVE Wicked!!! What an awesome play! I was always hestitant to go & see it because I wondered what the creator of the Wizard of Oz would have thought about it, but I honestly think he would have liked it, too. I have never been in such a gorgeous theater. Chicago architecture always amazes me...you walk around in the city and I just get fascinated by looking at the scroll work and designs on the various buildings in the city.

Mark & I also went to Taste of Chicago on Saturday before the play. We took an early train into the city, and the weather was fantastic, so we walked to the Taste and got there right about opening. It was perfect, because we were able to stroll the grounds there, and have the "taste portion" of various foods before we headed over to the theater to see the play. We left the taste right about the time the main crowds were beginning to head in!

On Sunday, we went up to Lake Geneva, and spent a few days just relaxing by the lake up there. Today, we will watch the fireworks from our own backyard.

A shout out to ALL...hope everyone has a safe holiday and a great day today!:cool1:

good 4th of july chicagoland homies.

hope your day goes great.

thanks donna for the kind words for son.

i'm gonna hang out at the house and clean today.
my grill stopped working so it's no bbq today.

Mac Care to stop by and help me clean? ;)

We are having a low key 4th since I have to work tomarrow. Doing yardwork so there's less to do on saturday. Laundry is almost done. :cool1:

Happy 4th of July all!! Won't be on line that long today. As usual. Just wanted to say hi and have a great day. Hope the rain holds off.

I hope everyone has a great day!!!

Didn't make it to the movie this morning as I was stuck on the phone with my mom for over an hour. But we're still trying for IKEA in a little while. :)

mac Hope your son is feeling better soon.

Tiggerrn Stick a broom in your DH's hand!! :) :)
If they have the ballet outfit I will for sure pick it up for you. Can you describe it again for me? Thanks!
I totally understand about not being well enough to get things done around the house. I was in the same position last summer. Keep your chin up!! :goodvibes

Donna So glad to hear you and Mark enjoyed Wicked!!!! :yay: I knew you would! I plan on taking Lauren to see it. She's been wanting to for some time and is mad I've seen it twice without her!! :rotfl:

Hersey Please come take care of my yard too!! Tony would really appreciate it!! ;) :rotfl:

Happy 4th of July all
Hope everyone has an enjoyable holiday today.
We are going to the in-laws for lunch/dinner and to watch the parade and fireworks. I could hear fireworks going off all around our house last night, but with all the trees, couldn't see anything. I love to watch fireworks. None compare to WDW or DL though.

Donna, sounds like you had a great day in Chicago. Glad you enjoyed Wicked. I knew you would.

Bunchkin, it is a 2 piece outfit. I believe the workout leotard was pink and then the ballet costume was white. Thanks again for checking it out for me. And thanks for the encouraging words. Ankle looks good today. I just live for shower time when I get to take that smelly boot off and wash my foot. Nothing kills that smell.:rotfl2: Who would think it could stink when you aren't even moving it around.

Sandy, enjoy the day with your family. Hope you have a good parade.

Mac, both kids are being done the same day. :rolleyes1 The thought before I broke my ankle was to just get them both done and over with during summer vacation. Now it is going to be a major chore. My mom will come help, though.

A big hello to Hersey, Stitchfans, Sam, Leigh, Jedi, Crissup and everyone else. Later all.

Did everyone get their postcard about the opening night of the DVC store in Woodfield? I think it is the night of August 1, for DVC members only (sorry non DVC dis-ers!) I think it opens to everyone the next day.

happy 4th !!!!

SLO - Yes I am. It's a fitness show. It was a blast to do.

Morning..

We went to the Brookfield Zoo yesterday.. great day.. then back to work on the yard.. Tuesday night we went to the fireworks here in Palatine. They were great this year.

MrShiny yep got my postcard for the DVC store opening.. but gonna be at WDW that week, so I'll have to stop by another time..

Hope Tigerrn2 and MAC's son are feeling better today.

Donna So glad to hear you and Mark enjoyed Wicked and the Taste.. what did ya try??

Stitchfans Glad the wedding went well.sorry about the caterer..

Good Morning!

Tiggern -- I know I'm way late in answering this but yes, my little guy is very into Thomas. I can take your Thomas stuff off your hands.

I hope everyone enjoyed the 4th. We went and saw Batavia's fireworks.

I also went to Jo-Ann's during the day not realizing that *everyone* in town was apparently shopping there too. I have never seen the place that busy. Usually we go later at night, they have a take a number for cutting fabric but we have never used it. Yesterday, they were calling numbers! :scared1: They were having a good sale & considering DD was making (or at least partially -- she made me do the finishing of it) gauchos and we ran out of fabric (poor thing would have had part of 1 leg not covered). They worked though!!!! Yippie!!! So, I have a hunch we will be making lots more bottoms for her. It's difficult to find clothes for her with the back brace she wears, so this will solve our problem. What happens is she needs pants with adjustable waists because if she gets them big enough to fit with her brace on, they are way too big without it. If she gets them to fit without it, it won't fit over the brace or if it does because too short. She needs something that works in both cases since sometimes she wears the brace & then takes it off but is not in a place to change clothes (i.e. school activities). I was able to modify the pattern to add a drawsting to it.

In addition to the normal parent/teen fight amongst clothes about what I allow her to wear and what she wants to wear. :lmao: At least with making things we can both be happy. It's not easy to find things in the store we can both accept (and/or that fit her correctly).

Next week DD's off to Girl Scout horse camp. I hope the weather is decent. That poor girl always seems to get the worst weather for camping (tornado warnings, severe storms, or excessive heat). Even after surviving those, she always asks to go again the next year.

In a couple weeks my brother & his family will be in Florida. I know they are going to Disney for at least a day or so along with other things. That will be interesting. I have tried to explain things & help them but they aren't really getting it. I tried explaining the hopper pass to them and I'm not sure they got that. My SIL has an old Passporter, she called me and asked how far away that animal park (i.e. Animal Kingdom) is from Disney World since she was looking at it on the map in the book. That wasn't so bad because they really haven't been but then I was trying to explain that you had to have a hopper if you wanted to go over there on the same day, etc... and I think I just confused her more than anything else. OOPS!!!! There were several things I tried helping them with much earlier and decided it was not worth it & to let them figure it out themselves due to the response. It will be interesting to see how their trip went but I'm not sure I want to hear. My SIL has a tendency to want to compare herself to me & so I know I'm either going to hear how I was crazy or their trip was so much better than ours or something like that. :lmao: It's all good, even if they are doing it completely different than we would -- I'm still envious. A few more years for us.

We lost power this afternoon for some unknown reason. The house is finally getting cool again.

I was forced to go shopping after work to stay cool, do you think Comed would reimburse me?

Hope everyone's 4th was great. I was so tired today. To many of my neighbors were celebrating and celebrating.

good thursday evening chicagoland homies.

son that had his tonsils removed on monday is still feeling the effects of surgery.

why is it that the male children and men complain so much and get cranky??
it's like the world stops moving due to their pain........:rotfl:

he still can't talk, and on liquids until sunday. then he can have applesauce and smooth items like that. i read on his my space that he has lost 6 lbs since monday.

gee, maybe if i had my tonsils removed, i would lose weight also. great idea but not so good maybe. mine were removed when i was 5.......:rolleyes1

hope you all have a great evening.

Hello Everyone
I just moved here about a week 1/2 ago. Saw this thread and wanted to stop by and say " HI " I live about 25 miles northwest of Chicago. My DD will be starting high school this year, she is excited about being here but doesn't know anyone. :(

:welcome: :welcome: castoff

welcome to your home away from home here.

we are a friendly group that likes to chat and get to know each other.
please do come back and be with us some more.

i'm in the northern suburbs near the wisconsin border.

more of the homies that post here are morning birds.
i'm the night owl and there are a few more night owls that post regularly here.

good to hear your high schooler is looking forward to a new school.

where did you move from? were you previously in illinois?
i'm orginally from down state illinois.

Welcome Castoff. Where did you move from? This is a great group. Just jump in and come back often.

Becky, PM me with some info where we can meet up at some midway point and I would be happy to unload on you. :rotfl: Does your son have a toddler bed? Otherwise, much of it won't be a big help as far as the bedding goes.
Hope your DD has a good week for camp. I saw weatherman calling for rain on M, T, and Wed. But he often is mistaken :rotfl:

Mac, hope your DS is feeling better. I know exactly what you mean about men and their illnesses. I gave up saying my ankle was sore. Nobody listened here at home anyway. "Can I have some more juice? I'm still hungry! We want to go in the pool!! Where are my....?" I have learned to hop quite well, though, I must say. (one legged banana dancer needed here)

Well, going to get ready for bed here shortly. Was at our softball game tonight (bookkeeping) and have to make sure all the bugs are out of my boot before I go to bed. Field was invaded by all sorts of critters tonight flying everywhere. Worse than the cicadas (just not as big).
Later

to the one legged banana dancer: i would help you. and i would even listen to you whine about your pain.

that's what friends are for !

the one thing that has helped me is son can't even get a whisper out.
he has to email me or text message me..

and then i have time to think before i type anything that would not be nice.
i have bought him everything and anything he wants during this recovery period of his. even spent over 20 bucks on getting his cat food.

apparently son was too caught up in his day of surgery that he forgot to buy cat food for the kitty..

mom to the rescue again...

I didn't post yesterday - that is so unlike me

I've been waking up a little later in the morning (I'm taking advantage of Stephanie not having to get up early for school), and with all this heat, I have to water my flowers instead of DIS. Then I was going to DIS from work, but I had a customer first thing yesterday morning, and then a couple of other customers after that - yesterday was a good day!!!:thumbsup2

Our 4th of July was pretty good.
The parade we did was SO HOT!!!!!! We had to stand in the heat for 1 1/2 hours waiting for it to start, and then when it started, there were so many people. If you put the spectators together at the other 2 parades, that's how many were at this parade. This parade was alot of work - not enjoyable at all:sad2: I was so glad when it was over so I could go home and go into my pool. Then after we were home, the day was awesome!!! Good company, good food, good fireworks - just a great time!!!!!:cool1:

So, are you all ready for the heat this weekend?
I'm really bummed that I have to work tomorrow, because I want to be in the pool. But I can guarantee I will be floating in my pool on Sunday :teeth:

Donna - I'm glad you and Mark enjoyed Wicked:goodvibes . We still haven't seen it yet, and I really want to. We'll have to go see it soon!!!!

Mac - I haven't had an opportunity to send tons of PD for you DS:wizard: I understand his pain - it's awful!!!! I hope he gets better soon:wizard:

HERSEY - That's a bummer that power went out, but thank goodness it wasn't all day and all night. Did you buy anything good on your shopping trip? :)

Stitchfans - I'm so glad to see you!!!
I was so happy to read about your DD's wedding on your thread :) I'm sorry to hear about the awful caterer :guilty: Why is it with weddings, something always has to go wrong?:confused3 For me it was our hotel on our wedding night. We first had a **** roach in our room, and then magots on the couch:eek: it was awful!!!! (this was at The Radisson in Merrillville). But outside of that, our wedding day was wonderful!!

Tiggerrnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn - How is your ankle today? Sending more PD your way:wizard:
**Did you get a chance to call DL and ask them about the motorized wheelchairs? I sure hope you are able to get one when you are there.

Bunchkin - Did you get to IKEA the other day? We need to go back there someday w/o our kids (Katie at least). I would like to really take my time looking around there. :)

Crissup & MrShiny - :wave2:

bigben - How fun!! I can hardly wait to see you in August - I'll be looking for you :)

geffric - Going to the zoo sounds like a nice way to send the 4th:) I'm hoping we get some time to get there this year - I think Katie would enjoy it this year.

Becky - Have fun making clothes with all your new fabric:)

castoff - :cheer2: WELCOME!!!!:cheer2:
Thanks for stopping by!! Please come by often - we would love to get to know you!!!

Well, I gotta go water my flowers :flower: and then get ready for work
Have a good day today everyone!!!
