I have a question for mom's with kids in school, how old does a child have to be to start pre-K? Katelyn will be 3 in january. I want to send her to a Chicago Public School for pre-K.

Since I'm not directly in Chicago, I'm not 100% sure how they do it since Pre-K is optional.

I know in my town the school/park district combo one follows the Sept. 1 cut-off for being able to go. My little guy turns 3 next Monday so since he is 3 after Sept. 1, he wouldn't be able to go until the start of the school next August. If it's going through the school system, unless it's special needs, I have a hunch it would follow the Sept. 1 cut-off ages too.

I would have to register him though via the Park District sometime in February unless he happens to qualify to go as Special Ed (that's the school district part).

I'm going to be calling soon to get him an overall evaluation (they used to do it all at once in February but I've heard now they do it every Monday -- they are free & if there are problems it's so much easier to get it addressed in preschool level than fighting the grade school), that way I know if I'm paying or if the school district is paying. :rotfl2: I have a hunch, I'm paying for this one but I might be surprised. I was with my 6 year old, I knew his speech was off but had no idea he qualified to go because he had other issues too.

My daughter is a November baby so she always misses the cut off but that's good because she is an older one in the class then. Chicago Preschool (for free) isn't easy to get usually. Where do you live? The PS/PK is for special needs kids first and then if there is room they let other children in from the district/neighborhood. Each school is really different. Believe me...I have been through this all!!!! We did a lot of park district and YMCA preschool stuff before this year since she missed the cut off. PM me anytime if you want. My district is Onahan. My daughter is at a Luthern PS right now and I am still trying to decide what to do next!

Hi, everyone

I've been MIA for some time. Lots going on. :guilty:

But, we went on our trip and it was fun, but boy, coming back to reality is not fun!!!! :sad2:

I'm glad to see everyone's trips went well, and I hope those who are going soon have a great time!!!

Debbie - I see you're a newbie - welcome! You're not too far from me, either. I live on the north side, near Rosehill Cemetery, but I work very close to you! I work at suburban libraries and the one I work part time is very near you - on Oakton and Waukegan ;)

Hello everyone

I worked 56 hours last week in 5 days. Today is the start of a new week and I worked 12 1/2 today :faint: I think things will be really good once all the dust settles.

Sandy I loved your TR I was thinking of doing one but I don't have the time or energy right now. Maybe I will do one hear like you.

Amy--you have to be 4 by Sept 1st for pre-school in Chicago. They test the kids and not everyone gets to go, only the ones who don't do well in the testing. I would try the Park District also, that's where Stacey went.

Debbie--- party: :bday: to your DS.

I should be in bed I have been up since 4 am. Stacey is cheerleading for Wells Park Football team and the game didn't start until 7 so I will wait for her to come home. It's a good thing I don't have to work until 3 pm tomorrow I really need to do laundry. I haven't even finished unpacking :scared:

slo, great TR and pics! DNiece got the same kind of full-face painting back in June! We, however, didn't 'find' it. :confused3 Go Figure! I provided the family with ALL their info. :rotfl: Sorry about the migaine. I truly know HOW those feel! Mine start visually. :guilty:

Kim...looking forward to meeting you in person on Tuesday AM. I'll hang out in the hall in front of her classroom door (with something Mickey on I'm sure!)
Happy 1st BD!! Hope they both feel/get better before you leave! :goodvibes

If your DD feels better Tues, I'll see ya then! :thumbsup2 ;)

Same question for Chef Mickey?Chef Mickey we have only done the breakfast which we both like.
Our group of 16, back in June, LOVED CM's for the dinner buffet! It is the best I'VE had. Can't vouch for the rest of the family tho, it was their 1st WDW trip. ;) We/they all LOVED it tho! :thumbsup2 Characters came around 2-3 times for pics/autograghs. Special request/order I made, handled excellently! :thumbsup2 I will definately repeat Chef Mickey's! :thumbsup2 (IF and/or WHEN I go again :guilty: )

DD Kelly is a December baby and, DS was/is a December baby (now at Triton) so, I agree with the older than younger is better. ;)

Keep your DD at St. Paul, imho! :thumbsup2 :teeth:

Question tho, how/why did you chose/find St. Paul? :confused3 We can talk Tues or, when you get back. ;)

Good Monday morning everyone!! :surfweb:

I hope you all had a good Sunday - we did!!! It was a very busy day, but it was a good day :thumbsup2 The backyard and front yard is officially ready for winter. I pulled so many flowers, and cut down so many Hostas, that the back of my legs hurt from bending over - but that's okay!!!! Kevin put up all the Halloween decorations and lights - so now house looks awesome!!! :teeth:

Thanks for all the continued compliments about the TR!!! :goodvibes

HERSEY - A ketchup bottle as a Halloween costume would be a great idea!!! I wish I knew how to sew so I could make things like that. To answer your Chef Mickey question, I would pick dinner over breakfast because of the desserts   Those yummy desserts that I showed you aren't there in the morning :sad2: But if the desserts weren't there, than I would pick breakfast, but I really like breakfast food alot!!!

Amy - I'm glad Tim is doing better!!! :) By me, Pre-K starts the year right before Kindergarten. They are doing things that Katelyn would be to young for.

Becky & Debbie - :wave2:

Jedi - Welcome home!!! :Pinkbounc
I'm sorry there's a lot going on - nothing bad I hope (I'm refering to this :guilty: that you used). If you need us, we are here for you!! :grouphug:

Nite0wl71 - How's everything going at work? If it starting to look like a CVS?

KimRaye - The face painting isn't easy to find :sad2: For the last 2 years it was in the same place - across from Millionaire. This year it was gone, and they told us exactly where it was. If you didn't know the location, it was not in a real noticable place - it seemed like a stupid place to have it, if you asked me

Well, that's about it from me today - I have to go get ready for work. Have a good day today everyone!!!

Hi Everyone:

Oooh it's been a busy two weeks. I've barely had time to scratch my nose let alone post on the DIS. Megan was sick with Strep, then I got it, ACCCK! Work has been really busy and this morning, I'm going to take this few minutes to post and say HI to everyone. Welcome Home to all our recently returned WDW travelers. I am going to head back a few pages to see how everyone did during their trip.

I just made my final payment this morning. We are about 48 days out now! It's hard to believe that the trip is that close!! Put it on my Disney Visa in order to start building up some reward points. I have 0% interest til next December, so I will have it paid off as soon as my bonus hits in February. Yep, already pre-spending the old bonus! :rotfl:

I think we are going to do a 3-day Disney cruise in April and I am going to call my TA really soon about that one!

So, who can believe it's going to SNOW on Thursday! I hope it kills all the bees and wasps at my house!! I can't stand it anymore! I hate those things!!

So, bye bye summer, see you next year! Hello fires in the fireplace, jack o laterns and cornucopias. Better get the wool coat out of the dry cleaning bag and let it air out.

Have a great Monday everyone...especially all you luckies who are off today!

Good morning everyone,
Hope everyone had a nice weekend. I am so excited to leave on Wednesday but my anxiety has kicked into overdrive right now. I am always so scared I am going to forget to do something or bring something. The irony of that is that my Mom does practically all the planning. She has a type A personality so she is better at it! She must call them a hundred times before we actually get there.
Hearing we may get snow when we are flying doesn't really help either.
The kids both have booger noses so I hope that clears up for the trip.
I too did the Disney Visa charge or I would'nt be able to swing this trip and lastly DS's party was good. It was a nice party and all but I am a spaz when it comes to bringing both families together.
I said I wasn't going to get all nervous with this party and then we left over an hour early for the party and spent over an hour in the car!!!!!! It was terrible. 90 was at a stand still. I was late for my own party (well, DS's party). So that kind of ruined it for me. I was all frazzled from that point on.
For me the real birthday will be when we are in DISNEY!

Still learning who everyone is and trying to keep track of your goings on and familys....
There's a lot to learn but as always it's fun chatting with you guys.

Shhh!!!! I've been trying hard to ignore that 4-letter word. We have NOT had fall yet completely -- I could handle it better in November but NOT October. DH sent me an e-mail like to that concept with the weather report. I'm ignoring him too. Maybe if I ignore enough of the reports it will just go away. :rotfl2: :hyper: <- that's me shivering from being cold!

Hi all-Happy Columbus Day! :boat: :sail:
My kids are off of school today as I'm thinking everyone else's kids here are off as well? Unfortuately, dh is working today. Tho, dh will be off this Thurs. when we take Chrissy to Children's Memorial. And I DO NOT look forward to snow flurries for Thurs or anytime soon! Hope it doesn't stick when we are driving to Children's on Thurs. morning.
Yest, we tried on the kids' winter coats, to make sure they still fit them from last yr. Unfortuately, we didin't go to any pumpkin patch or apple picking, but we did go to Party City party store to find a costume for Chrissy :) . She is kinda between sizes, as of costumes. So we went with the adult size for her. We went with a pumpkin costume for her. She did see in the girl's section, a Stephanie(Lazy Town) costume, but it was too small for her :guilty: .
We also went to Ikea. I live about 4 or 5mi away from Ikea, hadn't been there in about 5 yrs. We were looking for some kitchen/dining room chairs that would somewhat match our table. Didn't really see anything we liked. That place was crowded as usual. Kept walking in circles(because it is circular) looking for stuff. Then when we got home from Ikea, we worked with hte kids on their bike riding. Outside for awhile playing nerf football and helping them with their bikes(they don't really have it down yet, as of bike riding). So a nice day overall yest.
Not sure what we are doing today yet.

Welcome back, Jedi!
Hope you had a great time at the World!
Hope you feel better :grouphug:

Debbie6221-happy 1st birthday to your ds :bday: :cake: party:
Hope your ds and dd get better soon!

SamIAm- Hope you and your dd are over the Strep.Get better soon!

Carrie- sounds crazy, working all those hours
Hope your work settles soon.

Hi to everyone else :wave2:

I'm not sure what those look like? Are they those new beetle-type bugs that are destroying the trees? Not to be confused with The Beatles :teeth: :lmao:
Seriously, I don't know what those bugs are. Where I live, they have been really good at spraying during the summer months, so not much bugs ,except for the usual flies. Went to an outdoor festival by me(walking distance to me)a month ago.At night, did not see one bug! Tho, I did spray on Deep Woods Off.

A boxelder is a black beatle looking bug with red on it too that does no harm except annoy you to death!!! They can crawl into your home into the very smallest crack or hole (they come in my house through the seams in my windows). If I new how to post a pic of them I would. They are seasonal and they are back!! I can not stand them. :scared1:

Is there a Raid spray for inside your house to kill beetles you can buy? Raid or some of the other insect sprays you can find at hte store? I know htere are insect sprays for beetles, ants, wasps, etc. We have ants once in a great while on our kitchen floor. Hope the bug situation can settle down for you.

No. I have to have an exterminator out and they spray lime dust in the seams and corners of my windows. It doesn't really stop them but then they at least die in the windows instead of flying all over the house! The lime dust really cut down on the problem at least!
Side note....they LOVE sun and the Fall!

Hi, Roseprincess! :goodvibes

Bah, humbug for Columbus Day!!! I have to work. :sad2: If I had worked for the Chicago Public Library, then I'd be off. But most suburban libraries are open

Kim - Ok, ok, so yeah, I work at the Niles PL. And Glenview full time. :teeth: Oh, and did I mention I sub at the Northbrook library, too? :rotfl: Yeah, I'm a library - you know. I get around. :smokin: :rotfl2:

Sandy - thanks - you have always been so sweet - I'm lucky to have my DIS friends, like you :grouphug:

DH is in the process of getting my trip pics up on the Internet for me, so hopefully I'll have a link soon :goodvibes
