Hello everyone!

I have ANOTHER question for you all (don't you just love how I come here full of questions but no answers? :rotfl2: :lmao: )

My 9 year old is in Webelos Cub Scout and somehow (remind me to NOT open mouth when asking questions) I am in charge of taking care of 2 meetings to help with the Fitness Activity Badge so they can earn their Webelos badge.

Anyone familiar with it? To me as I read it, it's more a nutrition/healthy eating/lifestyle badge more than what I think of when I think "fitness" (i.e. exercise).

There is a place called FieldTripFactory that is great and I see Meijers offers "A Healthy Me!" field trip which fits perfectly for this activity badge. I haven't booked it yet. I'm also looking into other ideas, too. The thing that came to mind was a nutritionist. I did call Delnor to see if they gave tours of their fitness center, have a personal trainer talk, etc... but no call back.

Anyone have suggestions for the Geneva, Batavia, St. Charles area (or close to) that would help us with this?

 Becky - just want to support you!!! I have a 21 and 18yr ds, both went all the way from Tiger to Eagle Scout - and hooked their parents in the process.. DH and I are now into the training program, training adult leaders!!

Dont worry, (be Happy!! ) so on WeBeLos - push more in scouts - when so many other activities in jr and High school vie for their attention, and time - make sure you find a troop that fits your boys needs - from the day they meet to their philosphy (make sure its a "boy led" troop, not only in saying it, but in doing it - boy led troops look like chaos gone wild!! It so helps the boys actually learn by doing -

Anything you as Akela chose is the RIGHT thing!!! :grouphug:

eeyore: I really wish I'd known you when my boys were scouts. :goodvibes A boy led troup is exactly what Rockford needs. :thumbsup2 If there is/was one, nobody let me in on the secret. What a great philosophy! Mine are done with scouting now though. :confused3 Becoming an Eagle is a big deal - my DH is one too. :cheer2:

Becky - I can't remember what my kids did in Webelos, but your idea is excellent. :woohoo:

Jedi: Cutest picture yet! :) Preparing your digestive track for DW? :teeth:

Hi Chicago friends! Have a great weekend! I'm getting pretty excited. :Pinkbounc

Good Saturday morning everyone!!!! :surfweb:

I can proudly say...........

mmfive.jpg

(courtesy of my good DIS friend Wally)

Yesterday I didn't get my picture taken because the photographer was sick :guilty: I got all ready, Katie and I went all the way out there, to find out she wasn't there :guilty: The receptionist said she left me a message, I told her she didn't, and as it turns out, she left the message at someone else's house  So now I have to go back. Oh well, I guess worse things could happen - but it's still annoying!!!!!

Today, Steph has a morning soccer game, and then we are covering the pool - summer is officially over :sad1:

latharia, Jedi, HERSEY, eeyore45, & rmom50 - :wave2:

roseprincess - Have a nice day visiting with your FIL :)

Becky2005 - Good luck with planning those meetings :wizard: I'm sorry I can't help you with any suggestions.

Princess Mindy - Thanks for telling us about the trip report. I will have to read it this weekend. :)

Well, I guess I should get going - have a good day today!!!!

Hi Becky-
My ds is in Webolos I also. He has a consistent leader that is a mom- she's very good with the boys :)
Anyways, the Meijer one sounds good, that might be your best bet. Our school nurse has a nutritional contract with Meijer for the Nutrition Club at our school. So Miejer might be a good thing to do for hte badge ;)
Do you have a privately owned fitness place in your area? We have something called Fitwize for Kids here in Schaumburg. It is a privately owned place that opened maybe a yr ago? We had used that place as a Field Trip/ elective for my dd's Brownie troop last yr.
Or have you looked into your Park District? The park district by us have work out rooms, etc. Maybe the park dist. by you can do a tour of hte weight room and if they happen to have a nutritionist working there? :confused3

Do you have a regular scout leader for your Ds's Den, or are all the parents helping lead b/c there isn't a leader for his Den? Just wondering.
Hope these ideas help somehow.
Let us know what happens, as of who you end up booking with for the health/ nutrition requirement.

Hi all-
Going out of town today to visit with FIL.

Slo- You lucky dog, you ;) 5 more days to go for you :p

Princess Mindy- I didn't get a chance to read up on your TR, but hopefully tomorrow I will :)

Hi to everyone else :wave2:

Ok, gotta go.

Have a good Saturday!

Thanks, I need all the support I can get. I have TWO of the boys in scouting now because my 1st grader just signed up for Tigers. We find out what Den he will be in on Tuesday at the pack meeting, which should be interesting because it's also Back to School night at my daughter's Middle School so I can't go to both. DH will have to take the boys to the Pack meeting while DD stays home to watch the littlest one. DD *HATES* having to be dragged to Pack nights and now that she's older she can baby-sit instead. It's not so much a problem with DH going but he's clueless, when it comes to the kids and their stuff (yes I know that Cub Scouts are good for father/son stuff but with DH's work schedule, etc... it's usually ME doing everything & DH is really clueless as to where the boys go, what to do -- so I hope I get all the correct information on the Tiger stuff. :rotfl: )

DS-9 has been in Cub Scouts since Tigers. We split into 2 different dens once they hit 2nd grade. I do like his leader so much better than his Tiger den leader, so I'm glad DS-9 ended up in this one.

I'm just hoping to get these 2 meetings knocked out & actually not screw it totally up with it not fulfilling the requirements. The parents being responsible for hosting 2 meetings is new this year.

Good morning everyone! It looks like we get one nice day before the rain and cooler temps come in. It is nice, but is anyone else seeing swarms of greenish lady bugs and mosquitoes all over? The kids got lots of bites from being outside yesterday.
Scouts- We are going to a Fall Round Up in a few weeks. Ds is so very excited, but somehow got the idea you get to miss school to camp? :confused3
Kids are with dad this weekend, so I am going to do some shopping. I need to get the kids some fall clothes and I need to echange Dd's costume at TDS. The top and bottom are 2 different sizes! TDS has some cute stuff on sale. I also have to read The Canterbury Tales and disneymama and I are going to try to get to Coldstone!
Enjoy your Saturday!

I haven't looked into our park district yet, although that was on my agenda. What I'm thinking but not sure this will work or if I'm looking in the right direction, is going to the Meijer field trip to cover the nutrition aspects of it and then there is the smoking/alcohol/drugs aspect so trying to figure out something that covers that. So, one meeting would be Meijers & cover the nutrition; the other would be something to cover the smoking/alcohol/drugs aspect. One thing that came to mind is something like a mini-DARE program but I'm not sure what that covers about drugs being bad for you physical (seems weird having the police do that aspect of it anyway). I'm going to try to call the hospital again (not just the fitness area) and talk to the community services area & see if they have something that will fit the bill. I'm racking my brain on that one to think of something that would fit that is DIFFERENT than what the boys already get.

We do have a Den leader, this year he wanted the parents to take a more active role, so basically every parent/scout is responsible for hosting 2 meetings. I just happened to mention the Meijer field trip to our Den leader & he did a "Hey...I was just talking to others going to ask if anyone knew of a field trip that would help us cover the Fitness badge, looks like that can be yours". :rotfl2: I didn't mind planning it but now feel like I have to make sure I get everything covered to earn the badge. Oh the pressure (actually, what I'm afraid is going to happen is I'm going to schedule something and it's going to turn out to be something completely different than what it is represented to be and them think I've totally lost it for thinking it fits the requirements! :rotfl2: ). Probably because I worked at Meijers & I'm sitting here trying to picture it covering the nutrition aspect of it & thinking I don't quite get how that will work but it says it will.

Hi Chicago friends! Have a great weekend! I'm getting pretty excited. :Pinkbounc

Thanks! :goodvibes Yeah, I was thinking about the food thing yesterday. I was thinking that I seriously need to watch what I eat, then I remembered that I'm going to WDW and not only that, with free dining, I'm sure I'll go overboard. But hey, with all that walking I'll be doing, it'll even out, right? :teeth:

Jedi: From what I've been told, it doesn't have to even out really, because at DW calories don't even count. :smokin: I'm going with that. ... in 2 WEEKS! :Pinkbounc

Slo: you have just got to be sooooooo excited with only five days left. :bounce:

Paintnolish: yes to the mosquitos :sad2: - argh. we had a garage/yard sale today and I was eaten alive. First time this year that I've been bothered.

Hi Chicago!

Good morning everyone! What a beautiful day yesterday was. :sunny: Later today should bring some interesting weather. Ok I have to say I am jealous of all of you leaving to return to the mother land. That said have a wonderful trip! :yay: :yay:

Ok got to go change over my laundry, I have to get a jump on my day early today. :teeth:

Good Sunday morning everyone!!! :surfweb:

I saw the most beautiful sunrise this morning :sunny: Everything was pink - it was amazing!!! It's been a long time since I've seen a sunrise like that.

It was a gorgeous day yesterday :sunny: . We worked outside and got the pool covered. It is now officially fall for us now that the pool has been put to sleep ;)

Today I am packing. I'm hoping to get the majority of it done.

roseprincess - How was your visit with your FIL yesterday?

Becky2005 - That's nice that your DD is old enough to take care of your youngest. I look forward to when Steph can take care of Kate ::yes::

paintnolish - Stephanie is full of mostiquito (sp?) bites too!!!! She had soccer practice Friday early evening and came back eaten alive :guilty:

Jedi - I always eat to much on vacation too ::yes::. This is my worst time of year when it comes to eating. Between vacation and all the holidays coming up - I always gain weight  .

rmom50 - I am getting so excited!!! :goodvibes :cool1: This whole family really needs this vacation this year ::yes::

HERSEY - When I come home from vacation, I'm going to do the big switch over of clothes too. It's nice to bring out some sweaters to be cozy in :goodvibes

macraven - How is your son? I hope everything is okay with him. :wizard: Also....how have you been feeling?

To everyone else - Hi there!!! :wave2:

Well, I gotta run - I have alot to do today.
Have a good day today!!

Good morning, happy Sunday! :)

Yesterday was quite a beautiful day! Christopher was participating in a fundraising run for AIDS research in downtown Chicago (Grant Park) so we took the train into the city and cheered him on. I was really happy to see him do this, as he has had a cold for awhile, but still drove home from Dubuque and got up at the crack of dawn yesterday to go to the city <proud mom moment> We also spent a bit of time at Celtic Festival in Grant Park (since Chris has been to Ireland, he wasn't overly impressed) and we also went to Millenium Park for a short time, too, after lunch at Bennigans. We had a pleasant day in Chicago and the weather was just awesome! :cool1:

SLO...can't believe it's getting to be time for your trip already! You, Nicole and Michelle & Mom50 were all going around the same time, I think?? Anyone else I'm forgetting??? :confused3

ROSE...did you have a good visit with family yesterday?

JEDI..I really like your new signature picture!

Happy Sunday

well Sunday morning and I got to sleep in today...8:20 which is much later then my normal 5:30 so I feel good.

Yesterday I took my daughter back to the mall and we bought the all too important item....my daughters halloween costume. She finally decided she was going to be Cinderella. It was so funny as soon as I told her we were going to buy it she said help me take my clothes off I want to wear it now. I told her she had to wait unil Halloween but after that she could wear it when ever she wanted. They didn't have much left as far as selection. Ariel was almost gone, they didn't have her size in Belle and we took the last size 5 in Cinderella.

I have Sirius radio and on our way home I was flipping through the channels, and got to the 80's channel and Bobbie Brown was playing followed up by some Rock n Roll High School by the Ramones. My kids thought I was crazy. I didn't want to go home (the radio doesn't work in my Garage) It was so exciting just driving around jammin. I know you guys must be thinking i'm nuts but I have had a bad few weeks and it felt good to have the window open music up and some great tunes on. :dance3:

Well I have been looking on everyone's ticker and so many trips coming up within the next 2 weeks :bounce: I am so excited for everyone.

I just have one thing to say about it. I WANT TO GO TOO!!!!

Have a great Sunday, Those of you going this week say Hello to my main man Mickey :mickeyjum and have fun.

good morning all! Glad to see so many with trips almost upon us. I can't wait for you all! I wish I was back there.
I really hope it doesn't rain too badly today. This afternoon we were hoping to go over to Oak Park. They are having an Octoberfest celebration there. I love Oktoberfest.
Yesterday we went to Merrillville (again) did some grocery shopping and other shopping and hung out in the coffee shop so DBF could study. He started a new school on Monday and is really enjoying it, but he has a test on Monday. I'm sure he'll do fine. He always excels when he enjoys what hes learning
well have a great day all!

Hi all- happy Sunday-
Thanks Slo and and Donna, asking how the visit went yest. :goodvibes
Everything went fairly well yest visiting FIL. He lives near Mendota,Il. in a very small town called Sublette. He lives part-time in a summer trailer home community. It's a nice summer trailer home area. Unfortunately with FIL, he has dementia. I guess over this past summer, SIL told me he was really bad, as of mood swings. The past yr, FIL has gone downhill as of losing his short-term memory-hence the dementia. His mood yest seemed pretty good with us, not much anger that I saw in him yest. He was actually pleasant with us :) . He does miss seeing us, we hadn't seen him since last summer(summer 2005). My SIL is mostly up there every other weekend and some weekdays here and there. SIL has a trailer next to FIL. She also is his Power of Attorney, when it comes to decision making. Dh and I are hoping SIL gets FIL in an assisted living facility. That's another battle in itself, when it comes to family matters. In fact, the majority of the family feels FIL should go into an assisted living fac. FIL doesn't really feel he needs to be in one, wants his independence, etc. It's been hard to deal with on this issue, etc. Another post for another time :teeth: But all in all,the visit went well, he enjoyed our company, he was happy to see the kids :thumbsup2 . The kids hung out at the playground part of the time ,right by his trailer. Chrissy and Matthew also had fun watching grandpa's satellite tv, since we don't have satelite at home. We got back home around 8pm last night.

Slo- ::yes:: the weather was beautiful yest.
For me, it is sad when pools have to close for the fall/winter :guilty: , but then we look forward to going to indoor pool swimming sometimes :)

Donna- sounded like you had a great day yest. at Grant Park :thumbsup2

Princess Mindy- hope you make it to Oktoberfest today :)

Disneynut71- sounded like you had a great time with hte car radio yest :cool1:

macraven- yes, we missed you the past few days. So, what happened to your ds, with is flight last week, etc? Hope he is doing well.

Hersey- yes, I second that, being jealous of all leaving soon to the World :teeth:

DMM- how are you doing? Hope you are doing well.

Bunchkin- hope you are doing well, also.

Hi to everyone else :wave2:

Princess Mindy -- Thanks for the heads up about Oktoberfest in Oak Park! I may have to check that out!

Paintnolish -- Had a fun time at Coldstone last night. You always crack me up.

:wave2: Hi, everyone! Hope you're having a great weekend!

mac.....how are you doing? How is your vertigo?
