I know at one time there was a thread about chi flat irons--but with the search down, I cannot find it.

I have longer, wavy, course, thick hair. I have been wearing my hair down, w/o straightening it. But, I cut about 6 inches off the other day and now it will not behave for me (it is now just frizzy and big).

So, I need to start flat ironing it again. I have a cheap flat iron, but am wanting a new one.

Is the Chi it?? I have been reading about them shorting out and their live being short. Looking for real people that have used the Chi or have a different flat iron that is good.

Worth every penny - and youll spend less time fussing with your hair trying to get it straight, if you get a good one from the get-go.

CHI is great, as well as J Beverly Hills brand. You want a fully ceramic one, including plates and coils - that heats to at least 400º - AND one that is only a one inch in width one - to allow you to get closer to your roots.

:thumbsup2

I bought my 12 year old daughter one over a year ago. Well worth the money!!
She had long, very thick, very course, curly hair. She uses the Chi every day and LOVES her hair. I had purchased one or two cheaper brands, but they don't compare.
So far, we haven't had any problem with it. I "think" if you buy it from an actual hair dresser, it is warrantied for life. ??? That I'm not sure about. I bid on one on ebay w/ the different lotions and it was cheaper than going that route.

I asked my mom for a Chi for christmas this year and when I opened it, there was no Chi, but a Sedu. At first I was skeptical because I have used a friend's Chi and loved it, but my mom said that she did some more research and that the Sedu had gotten better reviews. Low and behold I LOVE this straightener much better than the Chi that I've used. It may be a few dollars more, I'm not sure - the price on the Sedu website is 108 (prbly can find it for cheaper). Anyways here is the website http://www.sedubeauty.com/buy.html (3rd one down on the list)
For the record I have longer, wavy hair as well and it gets straight in no time and stays straight.

I have the Paul Mitchell. When I bought it 2 years ago, I went in for a CHi and the salesgirl told me the Paul Mitchell was better. I love it.

i bought mine at ulta (w/20% coupon), & it's still going strong after over 2 years (used at least 1x daily). fyi, chi will not honor the warranty if you buy one from anywhere other than a salon.
it does wonders for my very wavy, rather dry, color-treated hair (which used to alway frizz), as well as my daughter's extremelly thick & wavy hair. my stylist has even commented on how much the condition of my hair has improved.
btw, we've tried a few other brands, but after using a chi, donated all the others.
just a suggestion: do use a protectant (i use proclaim, which i buy from the salon). i finally can wear my hair down in florida and/or in the rain, & it still looks great ~ i swear i'll never be chi-less again :thumbsup2

I started a Chi or not to Chi thread a while back, and the response was almost always advice telling me to get it. It has been worth every penny. I use the Aveda product line, and then use the Chi and my wavy hair is finally tamed. One of my co-workers said I had 'hot, sexy hair now'--whatever, but it is at least an actual style now- not just some out of control mass.

I got it from Amazon in June- have used it every other day since then, and it is still working great. And the cord is super long, which is helpful if you have an old house with random electrical outlets. I just wrap it in a handtowel and throw it in a drawer when I am done using it.

The best using it advice I got was to section off my hair and do small sections, starting at the bottom. It takes so much less time because you only have to do one swoop with the iron per section.

Buy it, you will be so happy you did!!

Bought DD one for Christmas....it's great! Her aunt has super naturally curly hair and the Chi tames that mane w/no frizz!!:thumbsup2
(It does take 30 to 40 minutes and her daughter does it for her)

I'd say get either the Chi or Sedu. Both are great. I got a Chi-because my hairdresser bought it with her discount. But had planned to buy a Sedu. Have used both and they are both great.

I can't live w/o my Chi! What did we ever do before them? I've had mine a little over a year (daily use) and the hinge is starting to squeak, so I'll be purchasing a backup soon in case it goes kaput. My hair stylist told me the secret to making them last longer is to never wrap the cord around the iron - that's what causes the shorts.

Thaks everyone.

So, which Chi to buy? I looked at the Sedu and read the reviews too. It sounds just as good, but I think I may find a better deal on the Chi (this is the budget board-right??--hahah)

You think I will notice a difference between the Chi and my $39 vidal sasson from Wal-mart??:rotfl2:

As for the humidity (I live in Houston), will the Chi stand up to it? I know my Vidal Sasson does not--at all.

I definitely recommend the Chi. I bought a really expensive Italian one, don't remember the brand and it still took forever to get my hair straight. And my hair is only a little wavy. Then my friend had the Chi and I tried it. I could get my hair straight in ten minutes or less without pulling it into sections. I also use it on my DD's hair which is super curly and frizzy. I usually use it on her hair when she is getting ready for school and has a really bad hair day which means we didn't plan in advance to do this and I can do her hair in under ten minutes as well. I know that some places they are really expensive but if you shop around and do your research online, I'm sure you can get a great deal on one. That's how I got mine. I don't remember the website that I got it from though. Hope this info helps.

Another recommendation here for the CHI :thumbsup2 I LOVE mine. I bought it over a year ago through drugstore.com. I believe it retailed for $180 and they had it on sale for $100. It's been worth every penny. I don't even use a brush now when I blow dry my hair - I just use the dryer on it until it's dry, then follow with the CHI. What was once a 60 minute process now takes me 25 minutes! It also works well to standing up to the very humid summers we have.

I too debated back and forth between the Chi and the Sedu. I went with the Sedu. My daughter is biracial with unruly hair and it works like a dream on her hair! It can make it poker straight! I have had it over 2 years and use it faithfully.

Hairdresser checking in. I will never buy another CHI.
I second whoever said never wrap the cord around the unit. Farouk knows this will cause shorting out, and still refuses to remedy this. Unacceptable for a professional product, especially one so costly. The unit itself works wonderfully, but with the design flaw, I cannot recommend it.
Cricket makes a similar iron that works quite well, at a cheaper price, as does Revlon.
If you get the CHI, they offer a year warranty. You will still need to ship it at your cost for repair. After the year, they charge around $30 to repair.

I can't live w/o my Chi! What did we ever do before them?.

i agree juliana, it really is sad that we could have all been famous models & making gobs of money had we just known about chis a few years earlier <sigh>:sad1:

seriously, i bought a back-up chi b/c i can't take the chance of frizzy hair ever again :scared1: lol

Thanks for costing me $140!:rotfl:

I wasn't in the market for a flat iron. I have 2 from Walmart, but usually just let it go since they knock out the kink but leave the frizz most of the time. I'm a low maintenance girl, and just don't put much time into my hair. I'm not biracial, but have been asked if I am due to the texture of my hair. I clicked on the site you posted, started playing around, and had to watch the utube videos of the girl curling and flipping her hair. And there were alot of biracial testimonials. I ended up ordering the new 2008 model with the curved sides (to put curls and waves in your hair), teaching dvd, and carrying case. So much for not spending any extra money this month!

hahaha oops - sorry, but I'm telling you you won't regret it!!:thumbsup2

 It's backordered. If it does what the testimonials say, dh will love it. He loves long straight hair.......Oh well. It was long, but I cut it above my shoulders last fall. So now it is short and kinky:sad2: Can't even do a pony tail. If this works well, I might let it grow back out a little.

We have a Chi. We bought it at Ulta with the 20% off coupon and some gift cards. Had it for over a year. My dd uses it everyday. I use it less often. It doesn't take long before you're able to use it quickly.
