Just found out tonight that all of the Chi-chis have officially closed. I had heard rumors that it was coming soon, just never thought this soon. We were going to get my paycheck and then go across the street to get some salsa for tacos tomorrow. I am really going to miss it, as are my kids. Almost every Friday night after working at TRU, we would all go over there to have some chips/salsa, appetizers and drinks. Now we have to find someplace else to go where we can hang out for a couple of hours and not spend a fortune!

what about my twice grilled burritoes

Ours around here have been closed for months. :( I loved the Lobster Enchiladas. :(

Ours has been closed for years-like 15. I thought they were
gone a long time ago.

haven't eaten in one for years since we don't have one near, but DH & I ate our first married meal at a Chi-Chis, and we'd had some meals with friends there as well a time or two...had always thought someday we'd go back for an anniversary, so it's sad to hear they're closing

way back when, I really enjoyed their soft taco diablo

Our Chi Chis closed about twenty years ago. Now its a Buca Di Beppo.

It's kinda like Dan Pablos...there were a ton around here, and now I only know of one. The others all shut down. :(

Our's closed about 8 years ago. We miss it so much. They tore it down and built a Uno's and a movie theatre.

Wow. I used to eat there at least once a week when I lived on the Island. Once, a friend dared my ex husband to eat a spoonful of the hot salsa and paid him a buck when he did it, lol.

There aren't any around here and where I lived in Maryland, most of them closed.

Ours was just bought out by the people who own Outback. I used to love Chi-chis. That and Ground Round were the hot places to go.

Chi Chi's Seafood Enchiladas

10 oz cream of chicken soup
½ c onions, chopped
8 oz crab (real or imitation), chopped
1¾ oz Monterey jack cheese, shredded
8 flour tortillas, small like 5” or 6”
1 c milk
dash nutmeg
dash pepper

In mixing bowl, stir together soup, onion, nutmeg and black pepper. In another bowl, place half of the soup mixture, crab and 1 cup of the jack cheese; set aside. Wrap the tortillas in paper towels, microwave on HIGH for 30 to 60 seconds. Place 1/3 cup mixture on each tortilla and roll up. Place seam side down in greased 12x7½” dish. Stir milk into the reserved soup mixture. Pour over enchiladas. Microwave, covered, on HIGH for 12 to 14 minutes. Sprinkle with remaining cheese. Let stand for 10 minutes. Add a dash of hot pepper sauce to soup mix if desired.

DH and I had many a meal at Chi-Chis in Fayetteville, NC when we were first married. Lots of good memories of going there with friends. We had one friend that would always tell them it was someone's birthday in our group so we would have to wear the sombrero!

They were already in bankruptcy, but a hepetitus outbreak north of Pittsburgh earlier this year did them in, several people died. It wasn't their fault, the disease was in green onions they imported from Mexico but they still got lawsuits all over the place.

I'll never hear this song again.............

Haaaappy, happy, happy birthday.
Haaaappy, happy, happy birthday.
Haaaappy, happy, happy birthday.
To you, to you, to you...
OLE'!

I worked at Chi-Chi's in college and that was my least favorite part of the job. But now I'm sad.:(
