How much is it to cross the bridge? And is it charged in both directions? We are looking to travel from DC to Dover, and are confused. Seeing prices all over the place. Thank you!

The charge is only going east from Annapolis to Eastern Shore. The charge is not that high but I don't know the exact number.

Thank you! I saw a rate of $15 one way and then another cost of $5 to return.

Cost is $6.00 only charged when traveling from West to East

As a Delaware native, I have to wonder why in the world you want to go to Dover. :rotfl2:
We are actually looking to go to the NASCAR race that will be there while we are close by :)
All of us all are race fans, and its actually how we met each other, so we'd thought it'd be fitting.

I figured it either had to be NASCAR or visiting someone in the Air Force. :drive:

Haha, yup! I'm from the midwest, so the only tracks we see are Indy, or a typical 1.5 to 2 mile track. Will be neat to see something smaller.

And the tunnel explains it! This all came up yesterday, so I was rushing for info and getting confused since I've never been to the east coast over there.

The two spans of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel complex are amazing feats of engineering if anyone in your party is interested in such things.

Yup - the bay bridge and the bay bridge tunnel are two totally different bridges. If you take the tunnel, it's more expensive and you'll end up in Virginia Beach instead of heading to Delaware :-)

That said, you aren't the only one to be confused about the Bay Bridge price! It was 2.50, then increased to 6, then recently reduced to 4. I just went over it last weekend - $4 and you only pay eastbound.

Thanks. My friend has an EZ Pass from Maine, and we saw something about a discount. Would that work or is it only instate EZPass?
We're renting a car for the day for this adventure.

I think the disount is only for Maryland EZPasses, although I'm not totally positive about that. You can absolutely still use the Maine EZPass, though, and you should just to avoid the cash lines.

There are actually several EZPass lanes. Most of them are on the far left and the left lane of traffic heading towards the bridge usually moves a little faster because of that. There's a catch, though:
During peak east-bound traffic hours, they convert one of the lanes on the west-bound span into an east-bound lane. So depending on when you travel, going into one of the far left ezpass lanes may actually put you on the westbound span of the bridge. Personally, that freaks me out a little (there's no divider or anything - just two lanes going one way and one lane going the other way). So when I cross the bridge, I use the single ezpass lane over to the far right. That will guarantee that you'll be on the eastbound span of the bridge.

I just went over the bridge last month with my Pennsylvania EZPass. I just checked my account and it was charged $4, so no discount, but the EZPass does make it convenient. I am with DopeyDame though in that I hate being on the wrong way span, but I do it to be in the faster EZPass lanes. It is nervewracking, actually, who am I kidding, the whole darn bridge is nervewracking! I much prefer to be the passenger, it has beautiful views when you can enjoy them!

But remember ur receipt has a coupon for a soda if u stop at the middle island snack shop!

Thanks for the updated info. I'll be crossing eastbound on Friday back to Delaware.

Actually if you continue up through the bay bridge tunnel and keep going it will take you right into Dover as well. Definitely a lot longer and more expensive way to go but it is a straighter more possible shot.

Definitely not applicable on the chesapeak bay bridge where she is traveling. It's just a 4.3 mile long bridge with nothing but views of the bay.
